Hello 2021!

2021
hits differently. Does it not? A start of a new year had always been time to reset and realign but this year there is a collective-unified energy from everyone to restart, I feel. I am surprisingly optimistic about 2021 considering what a cynic I have become over the past decade. I truly want to manifest that better things lie ahead and best is yet to come.

I want to kickstart this year with some thoughts that have been holding me together for sometime. Below are some of the quotes that got me through last year. You might have seen/read them sprinkled through the past year's blogposts. I wanted to archive them and take them into 2021 for myself, and anyone who might need them.

“There is so much about my fate that I cannot control, but other things that do fall under the jurisdiction… I can select what I can read and eat and study. I can choose how I’m going to regard unfortunate circumstances in my life — whether I will see them as curses or opportunities. I can choose my words and the tone of voice in which I speak to others. And most of all, I can choose my thoughts.” — Elizabeth Gilbert

“The body benefits from movement, and the mind benefits from stillness.” — Sakyong Mipham

“Most things will be okay eventually, but not everything will be. Sometimes you’ll put up a good fight and lose. Sometimes you’ll hold on really hard and realize there is no choice but to let go. Acceptance is a small, quiet room.” — Cheryl Strayedh

“And once the storm is over, you won’t remember how you made it through, how you managed to survive. You won’t even be sure, whether the storm is really over. But one thing is certain. When you come out of the storm, you won’t be the same person who walked in. That’s what this storm’s all about.” — Haruki Murakami

“We think that the point is to pass the test or to overcome the problem, but the truth is that things don’t really get solved. They come together and they fall apart. Then they come together and they fall apart again. The healing comes from letting there be room for all of this to happen: room for grief, for relief, for misery, for joy.” — Pema Chödrön

“When you’re at the end of your rope, tie a knot and hold on.” — Theodore Roosevelt

“I believe that beyond this space and time, all is well and all will be well.” — Oprah

“The telephone is a good way to talk to people without having to offer them a drink.” — Fran Lebowitz

“We’ve got to live, no matter how many skies have fallen.” – D. H. Lawrence

I hope that everyone who reads this finds something they can take from these words and run with it into 2021. For we all live, only once!

Happy New Year!

  1. DH Lawrence and Theodore Roosevelt's words resonate with me. I feel we're still in the storm but that it's totally true, we'll come out differently as Haruki Murakami says.

  9. I think we’re all optimistic about 2021. Hopefully that optimism won’t be unfounded. Elizabeth Gilbert has it right - don’t worry about stuff we can’t control, focus on what we can.
