Every day, I am dialing back on the time I spend on social media. I used to have a schedule that I followed about posting and what not. But sometime last year I threw it out of the window and it has been wild-wild-west around here since then, as far as blogging is considered.
Over the years I have consulted various people and small businesses on how to best optimize their social media. My suggestions are tried and tested and based on industry studies. But when it comes to my own social media I hate all rules.
I have always needed an avenue to be a rebel. I don't like following a norm until it makes sense to me. A decade back I was a rebel in my life. Now my life is running exactly how I'd like so now I have turned the table and become a rebel about social media/blogging.
They say: you must post content consistently
Me: I am posting as and when I feel inspired to do it
They say: find a niche and create content with those keywords
Me: One day I am posting about travel, and another day about my child-free life
They say: go in depth with one topic in your posts and cross-link them
Me: I like food but not writing recipes. I like traveling but find writing travel guides too boring. My sense of style is not main stream or 'current'
They say: create seasonal content and something which people will find useful
Me: When I don't know whom to say things aloud to, I type them here ... I create content to amuse myself.
They say: show trends and styles in your outfit posts for people to re-create
Me: I don't like trends. And I surely don't want anyone dressing like me
So you see my predicament with this whole blogging thing? I clearly don't follow my own suggestions I give to others while social media consultation but then my goal isn't same as businesses or people trying to reach an audience. I do everything for myself. So I these social media strategies cannot help me. I am at my stagnant best right now.

Your outfit posts are one of the things I keep coming to your blogs. And as far as social media is concerned, I spend a lot of time on Instagram. I have left FB behind long time ago. Instagram has a new feature where you can set reminders of how much time you want to spend in a day.
ReplyDeleteWhen it comes to blogging, I think passion should come first. I personally think that's how you become successful. SO I love to hear that you do whatever inspires you and share what you like to do.

This is such a great mindset to have when it comes to blogging and social media! Being true to yourself with it all is what makes you both successful and happy. Great post xoxo sarah
ReplyDeleteReally love this outfit and what you have to say about social media. Honestly, I'm pretty over it. I posted today but I think it might be my last post for quite some time. My priorities have truly changed.
ReplyDeleteI know exactly what you mean! I love that you are authentically yourself and that you post about your unique sense of style and topics that are important to you.

I've been pulling back on social media too. It can be exhausting! I love just concentrating on my blog. Love your outfit in this post!!

Oh this is a really nice outfit! I love the combo of black and yellow. Such a beautiful look just in time for fall!
ReplyDeleteSocial media is the worst kind of double-edged sword. The more you put into it, the more it can help your brand, but the more you put it, the more it can drain y ou, as well.
ReplyDeleteI don't follow the advice I give others either, but that is because I simply don't have the time to do so. I wish I could clone myself and have three of me, each doing a different task, haha.
ReplyDeleteEvery outfit you present is lovely) this one in particular reminds me of summer and sunny days) You look stylish and beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI try as much as possible to stick with my niche and my website is all about, that is traveling. I do love fitness topics and fashion but since I am no expert in those area so I hardly touch those topics.
ReplyDeleteOne of the reasons I love your blog and consistently read is because I don't feel like you're playing games with your readers, but rather you're sharing who YOU are, not who you think we want you to be. I love reading your honest, even sometimes random (in the best way!) posts!
ReplyDeleteThe thing about blogging is that it really can be tailored to whomever is writing. If you're happy with the way you're doing things, then stick with that! It's obviously going to be better for your mental health in the long run, and that will play in to the "health" of your website as well.
ReplyDeleteIt is so draining, social media, especially when it is work. I totally love the outfits. It is fun to see someone's style.
ReplyDeleteI hear what you mean! It is amazing how fast social media numbers can dwindle, but it is good to follow your heart. Great strategy, and I can relate!
ReplyDeleteThis outfit is so cute! I love the color of your top and your bag goes perfectly with it as well!!
ReplyDeleteKileen
cute & little
I love the bright pop of yellow on you! It's so refreshing with fall fashion in full force.
ReplyDeleteI also consult in social media for work and find myself breaking all the rules at times personally, lol. I think breaks are the key. I love this lemon and black outfit, and what a pretty bag!!
ReplyDeleteLoving this post girl! So well written! Such a great reminder of how important it is to do your own thing!
ReplyDeleteTanvi, this is one of your best thought-provoking posts. It liberated me. I have been feeling a lot of stress as I do not fit into any "slot" or trend , not only in my blogging but also in my life as well. Unfortunately, I gave up blogging because I got confused as to what content I should provide or create. Just like you, I also write for myself yet maybe, somewhere in my mind, I feel compelled or forced to create "popular" or "likeable" content and that is why I gave up blogging temporarily - as I was not feeling any motivation - I had words, ideas and thoughts but was not able to share those words with a wider audience. I do not know why I felt that compulsion to create "likeable" content. Maybe, I am heavily conditioned or maybe, I thought that there is no use discussing or writing things if I do not feel any connection with my readers. But I could have just continued my blogging just like I do daily journalling ( where I simply write in my diary without wanting others to read it). Anyways, your post has really helped me to keep doing / writing what I like (and feel) without getting confused as to what I should be writing ( and most importantly, without questioning why I should be writing what I feel like ). Thank you.
ReplyDeleteWow, such a beautiful outfit. I love the color combination they're perfect and it looks really good on you.
ReplyDeleteI love your sophisticated look, the yellow top is stunning! And you are right..post what you love when you want
ReplyDeleteYou look gorgeous! Love the haircut as well ;)
ReplyDeleteI can totally relate to this! Also in love with your outfit ❤ You look amazing, girl!
ReplyDeleteUltimately when it comes to blogging as it comes to everything else in life, you have to do your thing. If you try to do anything else's thing, it won't be worth it in the long run. You have to be happy with what you do.
ReplyDeleteI love that pretty yellow color. You have a great style. Everything goes together so well.
ReplyDeleteI can totally relate to this! Yeah for the rebels!! Who wants to be pigeon-holed anyway?
ReplyDeleteLove this post!
