Thank you BJ’s Wholesale Club for sponsoring this post.
Fall is just around the corner and it is time to update the closet. However, while adding new pieces to the closet, I also like to stay within my budget and minimalistic in my approach. Hence, partnering with BJ's Wholesale Club for this post couldn't be any more perfect. BJ’s is a great one-stop shop for practically everything you need at low prices and unbeatable quality.
Now coming to; how to layer your new wardrobe additions from BJ's. When it’s cold outside and warm inside, wearing the perfect outfit that’ll keep you both hot and cool is hard to nail. Autumn is a tricky time of year to dress up for. It’s that time of year when it’s not quite cold enough to wear winter clothes, but also not warm enough for summer outfits. Therefore, layering properly is one of the most important things to get right when dressing up in fall fashion.
Why should you think about layering in fall/winter?
Being able to remove an outer layer without compromising the style of your outfit is the best thing about layering. However, it’s also one of the hardest things to get right. It means that all of your clothes have got to look great as an ensemble, as well as standalone items. So rule number one is basically making sure each separate piece looks good alone as well as with other pieces.Where do you start when it comes to layering?
This is not an absolute rule, but usually, your under layer should be your thinnest garment and the outer the thickest. This means it’s easier to regulate your temperature and it gives the outfit a regular sense of depth. For instance, if it’s particularly cold when you go out you will have lots of layers to keep you warm. However, if it then becomes warmer when you’re out, or you go inside, you can remove layers and cool down without compromising the style of your outfit.
T-shirts, tanks, or shift dresses are great as a base layer to any outfit as they’re thin, light material and can be worn alone when you take off the rest of the layers. Throw on a hoodie over the top of your tee/dress for your second layer and can also add a denim jacket or overcoat if it gets colder. Hoodies are a nice middle layer for winters and top layer for fall as they are versatile to be worn on their own, as well as with a jacket or coat over them.
How to layer colors?
When it comes to layering clothes, one of the biggest issues you’re going to encounter is figuring out which colors to pair together. When you are wearing lots of different items of clothing, the risk of colors clashing becomes a lot larger. Therefore, it’s important to make sure that the colors you’re wearing compliment each other and don’t ruin the look of your outfit. How to accessories your layers?
Once you have a layered outfit, you can repeat it by playing around with your 'third styling piece' and/or accessories. As seen above, both of my looks were created with the same two pieces from BJ's. The only difference between the two is an addition of belt, wearing the hoodies, and different footwear. Since I shopped at BJ’s, I already saved through their excellent deals on apparel. Now, creating more than one look with the same pieces is simply more bang for my buck.
How to layer patterns?
When it comes to layering outfits, the choice of pattern is just as important as the color. If you wear clothes with too many patterns, or clothes that have clashing patterns, then your outfit isn’t going to work. The simplest way to avoid this issue is to wear clothes in simple block colors. Although this can sound boring, if done correctly you can create a subtle minimalist style. However, wearing some patterns can also be a really nice way to make an outfit more exciting. If you’re wearing layers with more than one pattern, then be sure to avoid jarring patterns – allow one to be the base of the ensemble and all others graduate from that.
