Recently, we were invited to Crimson Diner to try their brunch menu. It has got the trifecta of my desires: coffee, breakfast and space. It is a great place for drinks, has spacious seating and delicious food! One of the hidden gems in Chinatown, D.C.
When you walk in, you see a small selection of booths and a bar, which is the über cute diner style restaurant/bar located on the main level of the POD hotel. Very hip and vibrant restaurant that offers breakfast all day! Yes you read it right ... ALL DAY!
I tried their French Toast (of course!) and ordered the fried green tomatoes and homemade veggie burger. You can make alterations and switch out some of the fixings for the burger to your taste at no extra cost. My husband got the Three Egg Omelette and onion rings (his guilty pleasure). The portions are hearty (see pictures below) and the food is fresh and delicious. The only thing I probably wasn't impressed with was the hand cut fries as they weren't as hot and crispy but other than that we came back with our bellies full of good food.
I really like the casual spacious seating downstairs, it has a nice speakeasy whiskey library vibe. Sometimes after work, it can get crowded. The rooftop is really nice and you see the Washington Monument and enjoy wonderful view, but gets pretty packed. There's not much group seating on the rooftop, I recommend going downstairs for larger groups. The basement is also a great spot for happy hour, dinner, as well as a night cap as it's open until 2am and the kitchen closes around 11pm or so. The staff here are friendly and efficient. It is definitely one of my favorite diners in D.C.
Below are the pictures of the food, diner and my outfit!
