I am reading a novel (more on it later) in which a woman is impressed by a person's title and status ... which got me thinking and hence this post - What do I get impressed with?
I am not impressed by titles. It does not make a difference to me if someone is a king or a colonel. I am not impressed by degrees either. I know a fair share of people (hello fellow south asians!) who have masters, double masters, Ph.D, and other medical degrees. It is their academic achievement. They deserve the credit for their hard work and more power to them for pursuing higher education, but it still does not necessarily impress me.
I am not impressed by wealth either. In fact I am least impressed by wealth. I am amused and may be a little curious about their line of work (if they are billionaires) but still not impressed. There are one too many rich people in this world with poor sense of style, absolutely no common sense and even little courtesy.
Which got me to a point, where I thought - boy I am a tough audience! ... but then not really. I soon reached the conclusion that I am impressed by action and intention. I am impressed by people who walk the talk. I am impressed by people who are able to achieve their goals and dreams in spite of the obstacles and adversities they might have faced. I am impressed by people who take stock of all their resources and strength and use it to make a difference in the world. I am impressed by people who are selfless.
So I guess, I am more impressed by a person's journey to their 'title, status, or wealth' but not really by the end result. Because it does not really mean anything to have all those 'things' until you also have some substance to back it up with.
p.s. I am mighty impressed by athletes. Their passion, dedication and discipline is something that really motivates and inspires me.
Tanvi! Such a clever idea of wearing a dress like a suit. I didn't even realize that it's a dress till I read the details of the outfit. And the phulkari is super pretty as well. Very well put together outfit as always!
ReplyDeleteI am exactly the same, I am not impressed by titles, status or wealth and I find it quite annoying when people expect respect for a degree or a title....I am very impressed by people that developed inner peace within them and with the universe around.
ReplyDeleteFirst of all, your outfit is STUNNING! Second of all, the title has me singing Shania Twain so thank you for brightening my day.
ReplyDeleteI have to agree with you Tanvi, real people who fight for what they believe in and never give up impress me. Those ones who've conquered all the odds and wear their achievement like an invisible cloak. If you have to brag about your achievements or demand respect because you have a title, then there's something missing
ReplyDeleteWhat a thoughtful post, I really agree with you. I'm not so easily impressed and I really admire to people who worked really hard to get to the point where they are now. I love the way you think.
ReplyDeleteAnd, can we mention how gorgeous you look in these pictures!! I'm obsessed with that clutch, it looks so pretty!
You look just beautiful! Loved this post!
ReplyDeleteYou look beautiful! I'm definitely impressed by education. I think it's great and well, impressive, that someone has the will and determination to complete higher education of that level. Same goes for titles too. My best friend made it to a Director General position without a degree. She did so through hard work and determination. So yeah, if you are a hard worker, humble and grateful, and you achieve success, I'll be very impressed. I'd hate to downplay someone's achievements right off the bat because of preconceived notions.
ReplyDeleteI love this thoughtful post! You statement: I am more impressed by a person's journey to their 'title, status, or wealth' but not really by the end result. is so well said. Also, when I read your post title is immediately reminded me of an old Shania Twain song, "That don't impress me much" :)
ReplyDeleteGreat color on you for sure. And I think I'm most impressed by people with perspective. It's very hard to come by.

Reminds me of the song by Shania Twain. I can't stop humming it now. I'm not easily impressed by title or wealth either since I believe in the depth of a person than the outer appearance or material stuff.
ReplyDeleteyessss i am so with you on rich people sometimes with no sense of empathy or manners, thats a major turn off...i love the part about journey and their story rather than titles & wealth.
ReplyDeleteThat is such a great way to look at it! I agree, I am more impressed by the person's journey than by their destination. You can learn so much more about them by seeing how they get there.
ReplyDeleteWhat a gorgeous outfit! The brilliant colors on white - absolutely stunning! And I agree that title and wealth are not impressive by themselves - it's what that person has accomplished and given to others in their lives that impresses and inspires me.
ReplyDeleteFirst off, you look FAB! I love this entire look! Second, I agree with most of what you are saying. I am impressed by ones journey to get to where they are, and if the end result is a lot of money, title or whatever, I am impressed with the fact that they have been able to obtain it. I f someone was just born into something then good for them. But if that person shows, humility, respect and kindness, I am definitely impressed.Great post!
ReplyDeleteI have to agree that a person's journey impresses me a lot more than their "achievements." Also, gorgeous outfit, and your hair looks really good on you.
ReplyDeleteFirstly I'd just like to address how amazing you look! I can't get enough!
ReplyDeleteSecondly, I have to agree. Material things aren't that impressive. For me I try and look at it as a sign of hard work! It is nice to have nice things and be surrounded by the labours of your work.
This doesn't mean that I aspire wealth. I just want to be comfortable and it always makes me think whenever I look at someone who has a fancier car than me. I just think we'll done on working hard for what you wanted.
I have to agree! I am not impressed by someone's wealth or social standing -- it's all about who they are as a person and how they treat others.
ReplyDeletePS - You look amazing!

Absolutely beautiful dress! ANd I can totally agree and I believe that the best attribute of a person is who they are as a person and not what they posses in terms of riches.
ReplyDeleteLove that pop of color the scarf gives - it's the perfect vivid color for the white minimalist outfit! Looks so nice!
ReplyDeleteFirst - you look awesome. Second - I couldn't agree more! I always want to hear about the struggle behind the success - and THEN I'm impressed with what someone's accomplished. I want to hear about the personal significance that that accomplishment has to them, too!
ReplyDeleteIm impressed by drive! Drive to better your self daily and drive to be something!
ReplyDeleteYou look so pretty in this!
ReplyDeleteI am not impressed by titles either. I'm impressed if you're a kind person.
You are very beautiful with these photos. Your blog is very good. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteI am impressed by character and attitude as well...
ReplyDeleteThese are fantastic photos of you. Titles do not impress me either. Character is what I look for.
ReplyDeleteI'm more impressed by a person's character than by their title, for sure. I'd rather be around a kind down-to-earth person than a rich snob any day!
ReplyDeleteThis post rings true to me! Status doesn't impress me as much as the person's journey, and I think that component is very telling of a person's personality, too.
ReplyDeleteThe red really make the outfit pop, but the white is such a good balance. I'm not impressed by titles or wealth. I'm not really impressed with degrees, but having one myself, I definitely appreciate everything that goes into getting one. I'm impressed by many of the same things as you.
ReplyDeleteYou are absolutely gorgeous and that outfit looks effortlessly chic on you. You're more than right with saying that possessions, titles and wealth mean very little when there is nothing to back it up. I see them as a bonus, not as mandatory. Character and a good attitude is what I look for.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I am not impressed with a person's status. I am impressed by their heart and kind actions.
ReplyDeleteYour message is right on. May I add that it is not the journey but actually the ability to fight against our nature every day to get to the end result we put out there. So many of us fail because we do not realize the real opponent we face in getting things done. There is spirituality in everything if we do it with conciousness.
ReplyDeleteI instanty got S.Twain vibes from this post. You're so right!
ReplyDeleteBTW I love your outfit!
You look beautiful. Love your outfit.

ReplyDeletei like the spirit of this post. I am not impressed by people superficial titles or status either. I am impressed by your sense of style in this post!
What beautiful photos! It is also really great that you hold higher standards!
ReplyDeleteLOVE the look. Love the sunglasses. And love your attitude. I feel the same way. Titles are not impressive to me.
ReplyDeleteI like the vibe of this post: defiant and challenging. Like you, I am impressed by drive and by people who are making it in spite of their obstacles. Unfortunately, we do not always see or understand about people's hurdles and realities... So Indiscriminate Kindness impresses me tremendously.
ReplyDeleteYou look so cool in your suit especially with that sunglasses. Ray ban sunglasses are really awesome!
ReplyDeleteI love your photos, your outfit is so pretty. I agree with you that a person with integrity is the most impressive thing in our society, we have so many people in or society that lacks principle. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteYou definitely have your head on straight. Money isn't everything -- I know SO many classy and kind people who aren't millionaires. :)
ReplyDeleteVery inspiring post to read. I also love the bright layering over the white outfit.
ReplyDeleteCertain books doesn't appeal to me too. I suppose because I have read quite a few that others can't compare to. Not really being a tough audience bu more like just have a higher expectations.
ReplyDeleteYour outfit is absolutely chic ... I totally love the color combination too! Very striking but not in a super bold way. Just enough to make a great impact.
I think I must be a tough audience as well because I agree with much of what you said. For me it is a person's actions and the intent behind them that leave the biggest impression with me. I think these speak to the truest part of a person - far more than a title.
ReplyDeleteI completely agree with you! Action and intentions are what impress me more than any kind of wealth. I feel like most people think this way, but aren't always so open to talking about it with strangers! It was a great post to read, thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteI am the same way. I am impressed with the hard work that got you to where you are today.
ReplyDeleteWhat an interesting thought! I've never really considered this but I guess I'm impressed with people that are totally themselves and don't give in to society and the 'norm'
ReplyDeleteI agree both titles and wealth have never impressed me. In fact sometimes they repulse me. But seeing someone fight and struggle and overcome an obstacle is always impressive.
ReplyDeleteI just had a debate with a friend who was impressed by someone's status and wealth, some thing I'm not really impressed by, same as you. I guess it's a personal preference how one judges the other. And I totally agree with you!
ReplyDeleteI've read so many books where the female character is always impressed by a males wealth and not really know him before a 'relationship' happens.
ReplyDeleteGreat post, really enjoyed reading this and your style of writing.
ReplyDeleteYou wear those with confidence and I am personally impressed too. The books we read also have impact in our life. Somehow, it make us to be a better person by applying the lessons we gained from the novel. We can learn so many thing about life.
ReplyDeletei very much agree- it's about what you do with your resources and "power" rather than flaunting it. powerful post!
ReplyDeleteYou and I must be twins that never knew one another! Lol. I don't care or get impressed by any of that hubbub either. I'm more impressed by if someone can act like a decent human being, regardless of their status. That outfit is too fabulous though and I must say it does impress me a teeny bit!
ReplyDeleteI am impressed by the honestly in your post! It makes a refreshing change to read something that isn't 100% positive, but also isn't completely negative. If that even makes sense lol
