I have realized, that over the years (unintentionally) I have tried hard to not behave in a passive aggressive manner. I have made categorial changes in my personality to address issues head on instead of beating around the bush or give the silent treatment. The only instance I choose to be quiet is when I know I am talking to a fool, or when I know silence is a better remedy than words (temporarily). At all other times, I choose to talk about whatever is on my mind. Hell, I am open with even you guys (readers!).
Passive aggressive behavior, I believe is integral part of any Indian (or desi) household. That is how we have seen our family members interact with each other. When things are great, we feast and dance and watch movies. When things are not-that-great we ignore, avoid and give-the-silent-treatment to each other. No one ever talk about the elephant in the room, and if anyone does, then everyone makes that one person to the villain, because he/she broke the sacred vow of passive-aggression. Having been away from home for over a decade (15 years!), I realize I am out of practice (and patience) of dealing with this hostility. When you have a bizillion things to accomplish, it feels quite a nuisance, if you ask me!
Moving to the outfit, this is what I wore to the Blogger Scene party last week. This is not the first time I wore a Saree to a blogging event though. Remember this, from Austin in 2012?

So true!! And often people who speak their mind go albeit politely are often considered rude and insensitive!!
ReplyDeleteOn another note I wish I was this comfortable wearing a Sari. I always end wanting to get out of it as soon as I can.
Everyone should wear whatever makes them comfortable. Freedom of choice (and dressing) - Right? :) Thanks for the compliment!
DeleteYa Tanvi agree with you the silent treatment does feel like waste of time its much better to talk it out and get it over with!!
ReplyDeleteTanvi u are looking absolutely stunning!! love the grey and pink effect!! <3 pretty u!! :)
Thanks Snehal! :)
DeleteWhat a beautiful saree! Great colors. Passive aggressive behavior is typically committed by powerless people (e.g., women) as a way to vent their anger or disappointment without getting attacked for it. It's unhealthy. Everyone, including women, should be free to express their feelings, including their negative ones. Doing so is cathartic.
ReplyDeleteYou are so right. Helplessness is probably the top reason for passive aggressive behavior. P.S. Thanks for the compliment :)
DeleteThe passive agressive behavior is very typical of the Romanian culture too. My siblings and I have had to learn how to talk to each other and work out our issues over the years.
ReplyDeleteThat saree is probably one of the most beautiful things I've seen!
I guess, you are right. We are all the same, no matter what country. P.S. Thanks for the compliment Naomi! :)

DeleteCouldnt agree more with you! We Indians and esp woman are fed on passive aggression, but definitely its good to confront when its going to make a better sense or bring a change to other person/situation. Else human's can be no different than a volcano!
