I dislike to be in a situation where I cannot say what's on my mind and yet I have to wear a smile on my face. That's the worst scenario for me, personally. For example, when someone asks my opinion about about something they have already bought (and clearly like it a lot themselves). Now why would you torture me like that? Clearly I cannot say I don't like 'coz I do not want to hurt your feelings or get into an unnecessary discussion. And I cannot say I do like it ... well, 'coz I dont! So here I am, hanging my head down and desperately trying to change the topic or hoping for someone to enter the room, so that I am not forced to answer that question. But that seldom happens. I end up taking one of those routes and hate myself for opening my mouth at all!
Anyhooo, this is one of my favorite Maxis. I got it from London last year. And have worn it a number of times. This time I paired it with a belt from one of my other dresses. This idea was inspired from Eva Mendes.

<3 the belt <3 very nice combo tanvi. I am bit spprehensiv when it comes to maxis. I am 5'7 but still feel like I might just drown in them. You my friend, on the other hand, have carried it out beautifully :) yet again!

Loving this! Maxis are the way forward, I think, even though it's too cold here in the UK for us to enjoy them fully. Still, gorgeous!:)
ReplyDeletelovvvvveee the print. i so want to have a maxi dress.. looking very pretty.. :))
ReplyDeleteI officially HATE my figure now!! Wish I had one as slender as yours - it's so perfect for these long flowing silhoueetes......which I can never wear! Sigh!! :(
ReplyDeleteOk. Enough of the self-criticism. You are looking HOT. Hotter than Eva Mendes, if I must say so! :)
I hate being in that situation as well. Although, I can't lie properly, so you can always tell my real opinions by the look on my face.
ReplyDeleteThat's such a pretty dress. I love how you added the blue belt as well.
Adore that maxi and the blue belt with it is divine!
ReplyDeleteMuch Love

ReplyDeleteHi Tanvi,
ReplyDeleteadmire your dressing style a lot.

ReplyDeleteEva indeed.. Love this print dress on you
ReplyDeleteLee x
Ooooohhhh!!!! Lovely. And the bow-tied belt is an inspired touch.
ReplyDeleteLove the sash idea. Might steal that from you and Eva :)
ReplyDeleteLove the belt..The colour, the style..everything..:)
ReplyDeletethe belt goes so well with the dress,I also liked the last combo you made with the cardi
ReplyDeleteLove it! That maxi is so gorgeous, and the belt is just the right color to pair with it! You look fabulous! P.S. I also hate when people ask about something they already bought. Such a sticky situation!
ReplyDeleteTanvi,
ReplyDeleteCaught with all pending posts. When am I going to be lucky to taste those delicious PRANTHAS? Unfavorable Feedback is more important as it gives you insight for improving. So that was the secret of keeping fit. Your trainer is really good to keep you on toes. I agree such situations are very tricky as neither one can say negative nor positive. So the only way out is to look for something diplomatic.
Take care
Eva Mendes is THE most beautiful woman in Hollywood hands down! Great inspiration and I love the blue belt!
ReplyDeleteI hate when I am in that situation as well. Or like when someone says "wow, I love your outfit" and you look at them awkwardly and say "yeah, I love your . . . hair clip!"
Perfacto...

I'm going to copy this look asap! Love the bright asqua belt against the floral maxi, they work together perfectly. You look every bit as lovely as Eva!
ReplyDeleteI like this twist (blue belt) on the maxi dresses. As versatile maxi dresses are already, paired with a nlue belt just adds a nice touch :)

You look fabulous in maxi dresses and I reckon you look better than Eva, too.
ReplyDeleteMy friends always take me with them when they buy new stuff, they say my honesty is brutal! x
This is why I love your blog! You turn simplicity into style! I would've never thought of wearing a belt with a maxi.
ReplyDeleteAnd about those awkward questions, I just tell people what they want to hear. Except my friends and family. For them, I'm at my brutally honestest!
This dress is gorgeous..love it!

This dress is gorgeous..love it!

i do like the bow belted on the maxi.
ReplyDeletewhen i'm in a situation like that i find it best to just say something like 'oh i'm glad you like it' and try to find one thing about it that i do like, i.e. the color, the length, etc.
loved loved and loved the outfit on you..
ReplyDeletegorgeous print on that dress. I often do the same thing and just tell someone that wretched thing they just bought is great and then I feel like crap about it.

gorgeous dress - love the backdrop too.
ReplyDeletelove how you paired it w a lighter colored sash! ♥
ReplyDeleteThat belt looks spectacular with your dress!
ReplyDeleteI can totally relate to those awkward moments..Ha!!
ReplyDeleteLove the maxi dress!! IT literally flows on you..great fit!!
The belt definitely is a great add-on.
YOU belted it BETTER!! :D
ReplyDeletethe 4th pic - OMG ♥
the print is soooo nice :) i absolutely loe these inspiration posts! love to see ur take on things :D
ReplyDeleteI don't like to be put in that situation at all either. Sometimes you just have to say what you feel without sounding rude or mean. You have to think to yourself... Is this their style? Can they pull it off? Just because I don't like it doesn't mean this doesn't look great on others. Unless they honestly don't then as a friend you should tell them. Is this something I would wear? And if not, why not?
ReplyDeleteThis is by far one of my favorite looks!! This maxi is unbelievable and looks amazing on you! Love the belt.
xoxo,
Mel
Loving that print. I have a shirt in the same print and I want that dress!!!:) You look amazing and fit! BEAUTIFUL
ReplyDeleteI love maxis! Yours looks so lovely with the belt dear. -xo
ReplyDeleteThe blue belt really makes the look!
ReplyDeleteAnd I don't mind giving a trivial compliment if that's what someone is looking for. It makes them feel good and it costs me nothing, you know? It's not like I'm the one who has to wear the ugly whatever-it-is they bought. I don't take stuff like that seriously...
Um, I read your title and my eyes automatically went to the photos and I thought you were Eva. I'm kind of amazed I never saw the similarity before. You could be sisters! :)
ReplyDeleteI actually love your outfit better than Eva's. Hers is gorgeous, but your big blue bow stole my heart. I love it. xoxo
Maxis aren't my cup of tea,I feel so overwhelmed in them but you look super chic in this one!And your honesty is one of the many qualities I respect you for. So,don't stop giving your 'honest' opinions on everything even at the risk of pissing people off!For one,you sugarcoat it with just the perfect dose of sugar and bitter chocolate. And second,it's what sets you apart from others. So,why bother?;-)
ReplyDeleteLove it! Eva Mendes always look stunning!
ReplyDelete:)
xx
I can so relate! I'm a pretty blunt person and it's torture to be in a situation where I can't speak my mind, but have to put on a happy face. Oy
ReplyDeletexo,
C
can relate to that feeling.. i am just learning to be patient and smile away in such a situation with outsiders.. if its the case with my mom or any one else from my family i just say " dont know whether its good , but its not that bad.. " .. lol.. and they get it..
ReplyDeletethat's a lovely outfit..you look beautiful ..
Job well done Lady! Looking great... and thank you for your sweet note last week. xo
ReplyDeleteYou are absolutely rocking this outfit! You look so stunning and chic. I bow to your outfit-styling prowess :)
ReplyDeleteI love this look! It's very Eva Mendes - adore her style. I love what you did with the sash, I'm definitely going to use that sometime. ;) And I can definitely relate to that feeling; it's frustrating when people ask your opinion on something you don't like. I don't like to give criticism so it's very hard when people want my honest opinion! But I always try to say, if they like it then that's all that matters. Personal style is about personal taste!
ReplyDeleteThe belt is a great addition. Still waiting for the perfect maxi to find me !
ReplyDeletehye Tanvi ..... ur Maxi dots and small flowers r look awesome ...and ur blue belt boo is so beautiful .......

ReplyDeleteThat feeling is so true. Love the belt! Gorgeous color.

Super chic, Tanvi! Might it be possible that you haven't worked in an office or attended business meetings for a while - I guess calling it diplomacy is the nicest word.
ReplyDeleteYou are so stylish! I love all of your outfits but this one is one of my all time favourites! I love maxis and the bow detail works so well.
ReplyDeletethat maxi is gorgeous!! btw loving your idea of putting raita on a sandwich - i'll have to try it!
ReplyDeletehot, hot...doing full on justice to the look:-)

Haha!! I have the same problem..you have to beat things out of me if it's what you want to hear...politically correct, polite blah blah is HA.R.D!!
ReplyDeleteSweet maxi!
The pairing of the dress with the blue sash is an awesome idea. You look so long and lean in this. Very elegant silhoutte.
ReplyDeleteI have the same issue when people ask me my opinion after buying clothes. If the tag is still on, I give them an honest opinion otherwise I try to give the most politically correct advice. Sometimes people will stop me in store and ask me advice, then it gets very diffcult to say that will look terrible on you!!
