One of my pet-peeves is the use of the phrase - 'Do not take it personally'. I never understand why people use 'it'. I mean I do know why that phrase was created and what it means, but I do not think it is always used appropriately. Or may be I DO take everything personally but thankfully thats my prerogative. As far as I am concerned, if you are connected to me 'personally' [best friend, parents, husband, sibling] and end up saying/doing something hurtful, then I am sorry but I am going to take it personally.
What I would not take 'personally' are the action of a stranger. Clearly, since he/she doesn't know me and doesn't have any emotional bond with me then there is no question of taking anything he/she does 'personally'. I am indifferent to their complete existence.
Fair enough, right?

I totally agree with your thoughts on taking something personally! IT IS PERSONAL! Very mature observation at such a young age! Keep it up and you will be successful at whatever you choose to do! Cheers!
ReplyDeleteI was totally going to blog on this, taking personally thing! Infact I found what exactly to say to people who use it. I will take it personally because I am "response able". I like these shoes! and I have similar shorts in a diff colour! :)
ReplyDeleteI am with you on this one Tanya! Why would someone say something rude and know that they are bring rude and then on top say - dont take it personally. Its like putting salt to a wound. (jalle pe namak thing) and very cute outfit, love the feather extension!

ReplyDeleteAnd agree with the 'don't take it personally' part.
oh I take everything personally especially when a person utters these words
ReplyDeleteHi Tanvii
ReplyDeleteYou look absolutely beautiful and I love the pictures which captured your hair blowing in the wind. I recently chopped my hair off and kept it above my shoulders and your pictures are making me ever so wish that my hair starts growing back asap!
I also dislike the comment "don't take it personally" often what they have to say is taken personally...very personally!
Have a great day! :)
you're right about the 'don't take it personal' thing. by the time they it, they are guilty already.
ReplyDeletei'm loving the cute outfit you have on today.
Such a dumb expression, sets my teeth on edge every time.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous summery outfit, your hair looks so lovely and long. x

ReplyDeleteFor the most part, I too could care less about what complete strangers say or think, but when it comes to those close to me, I definitely wear my heart on my sleeve. Very well said dear! You are super cute in these photos...loving those shorts!
ReplyDeleteWell there are times when one has to take 'it' personally. If someone attacks you directly or indirectly, it is personal attack....
ReplyDeletei love the way you rocked polkadots here !

It's really hard to take my emotions out of a project at school sometimes. I can be good at hiding them, but the second someone says "Don't take it personally", it throws me off of my game! Because "don't take it personally" (or a variation) makes it sound like they KNOW I'm going to get emotional/get an "attitude" . I think assuming one's emotions before is rude. Also, a lot of people don't offer constructive criticism, and it's hard to take in a statement that does not offer a solution to better improve my work.
ReplyDeleteMy pet peeve statement is "No offense, but..." because it's totally irrelevant to the conversation. I think people should say how they feel and if it offends, then maybe they should rethink how they present their opinions (if being offensive was not their intention). The people receiving opinions should remember that an opinion is just that, a throw away, and the people they cherish are the ones that they should listen to the most, if they choose to do so.
So I must agree with your statement. The phrase doesn't hold much meaning according to me, especially when it comes from someone you care about. In any case, cute outfit! I am sucker for using different shades of the same color in one outfit :)
ReplyDeleteMy pet peeve: when people say Take a chill pill or chill out. It is just so rude.
ReplyDeleteMy pet peeve: when people say Take a chill pill or chill out. It is just so rude.
ReplyDeleteI completely agree with you. Every time someone uses that phrase, you can't help but to think what they are about to say will be offensive. I mean, why else would you want to warn someone to begin with, right? I think it's just another way to say, "what I'm about to say will be very offensive and come out bitchy, so I apologize in advance." Lol! :)
ReplyDeleteCute shorts Tanvii!
xoxo,
Mel
Oh I HATE that phrase! So annoying!! But I do love your outfit, and the scenery is beautiful!
ReplyDelete-Ellie
You look mesmerizing .. really :)
ReplyDeleteAhhh look it is sunny with you and the light is so wonderful. And you are wearing shorts. I cant remember the last time I wore shorts. Maybe the beginning of July :-( I want it to warm again. Give me sunshine. Thanks for sharing yours. Xxxx
ReplyDeleteYou're absolutely right. For me,it's just a little difficult to draw the fine line between people who can hurt me and people I don't care for. You've got your priorities right.Coming to the look, digging everything about this look!I've 'almost' the same pair of shorts in powder blue.I looked for Khaki or Steel Grey a lot but couldn't find any.:-(And I love the way your extensions add a dash of color to this look of yours.I've never loved it so much!
ReplyDeleteI had someone say that to me on my wedding day! I replied with something even nastier and then said, "Don't take it personally!" ... Live and learn I guess!
ReplyDeleteLove the photos :)
love, love, love the top!
ReplyDeleteThese are beautiful fun pics and I'm loving your hair! I love the background and how stylish and comfy you look.
ReplyDeleteI want to be like you and not take things personal. That is a very great place to be and I'm almost there.:)
Your hair is STUNNING in these photos. Especially in the second to last one. :)
ReplyDeleteI'm right there with you! And how fabulous you are looking in these photos. Those shorts, top and shoes are perfect! xoxo
ReplyDeleteLove this casual look on you! I totally know what you are saying about "don't take it personally." As hard as I try to be aloof and not take things personally, I always end up doing so. That's why when someone says "No offense or anything..." I immediately respond with "you're an asshole". I just try to beat them to the punch. HAHAH.
