The weekends always seems to go by too soon, wouldn't you agree?
*The phrase "get me" has been used in the post below to the effect of meaning 'understand me' or 'believe me'
Over the weekend, I found myself pondering over the 'concept of friends and friendship'. While growing up I had a lot of friends. Like a.lot. Now I have different categories of friends - junior school, middle school, high school, college, work, husband's friends, friends of friends, blogging friends, ... Phew! exhausting, right? Out of which I can safely say only 3 or maximum 4 four actually 'know' me or at least I think they know me!
So over this weekend I came up with few (few being the key word here) new categories which make a lot more sense to the 'adult' me.
1. People who love me but do not "get me"
2. People who love me and "get me"
3. People who simply just "get me"
It might appear that #2 type of people would be my favorite, but surprisingly I decided that #3 are my favorite. I am at a point in my life that I just need people to "get me" whether they love or hate is not really that important! Simply put - those are their emotions hence their problem. Definitely, not mine. Most times, it is just wonderful when people understand what you are saying, and you do not have to go on and on to explain yourself or convince them about your each and every action or thought!
Now, #1 sorta people would currently be a big obligation in my life. Their love doesn't allow me to let go of them (break up!) but talking to them is as good as banging my head against a wall! Really. I just wish they would get off their high horses and accept the world as it is.
Lastly #2, which is definitely a scarcity, not only in my life but world over, right now but the few that I have, I really do 'cherish' them with all that I've got. Though their love can weigh me down sometimes, but I am not complaining. I'd rather have them in my life than not!
My new theory could easily be applied to everyone in my life, except lets face it, when family is concerned, whether they "get you" or not, you have to brave-throught-it-with-a-smile!
P.S. If the whole #3, #2, #1 and #1, #2, #3 made your head go dizzy then excuse me, just enjoy the pictures.
We saw Pirates of the Caribbean and Bridesmaids on Friday,

Hahaha Tanviii ! You're so adorable! Friends are funny actually :p
ReplyDeleteAs long as you understand & love yourself, you don't need anything/anyone to be there for you, if they are - its a good thing! :)
Also, I'm loving the outfit (as usual! :D) You look so happy & fresh & glowy!
Happy Monday! :)

I am totally going to go #2 at the categorisation, I love it, and I believe in it too! ;)
ReplyDeleteLove the skirt! :)
Great post, Tanvi! The outfit is so summery and fun and I totally agree with your take on the importance of people "getting" you :)
ReplyDeletelove the shoes!
ReplyDeletewhat an interesting read...I think I do "get" what ur talking about since I have a lot of friends myself....
ReplyDeleteNice look as always!!!!......love the shoes!!!!!
Cute outfit! I don't know whether it's an age thing but I only have friends who understand me, life's too short not to. xxx
ReplyDeleteI never thought of categorizing my friends this way, I categorize by inner circle, outer circle but yours is interesting
ReplyDeleteHow was bridesmaid? I am planning to watch it, it's releasing here this weekend
p.s the shoes are divine
We all want friend like #3 ,i guess!Cute outfit with grrrrreat heels and i love your ring (the one which looks like Sun).
ReplyDeleteHey its so pretty where you live!:) I love your shoes! The comment you left on my blog, was very sweet. Thanks for that. :)
ReplyDeleteIts always nice when people around you understand you & accept you the way you are. Its truly a blessing. Sometimes even if you've known someone for ages they would still be strangers. & someone you've just met might instantly strike a cord with you.
ReplyDeleteBtw that's such a pretty skirt you're wearing. & hows pirates? planning to go for it soon :)
Oh and when I started reading, the first thing I thought was I prefer #3 kind of people. Life is much easier that way! :)
ReplyDeleteI like the one where you're sitting on a bench.
ReplyDeleteHey Tanvi!
ReplyDeleteYou've a new follower :)
Thats very cute and summery. If i were to categorize friends i think i'd do it in the same fashion ( minus the friends of husband part)
Loving your blog right now !
Tanya
xoxo
love your shoes
ReplyDeleteI agree: #1 would defiitely be an obligation. It's great to have people that just 'get you'. They're defiitely the best type of people to know.
ReplyDeleteLove your skirt!! It's so pretty and those shoes are amazing.
Cute shoes! I agree with the categories. People in no.2 are pretty special!
ReplyDeletexoxo,
Chic 'n Cheap Living
Great post, am drooling over how gorgeous your shoes are!
ReplyDeleteI totally 'get' what you're talking about, loving the categories and yes, #2 & #3 are pretty special peeps to hold onto. Whilst with C#1, you just sometimes find yourself asking 'why' with a big fat question mark.
x.o.x.o
Like your hair style.
ReplyDeleteIts always nice to be with friends whatever category they fall.
They are our friends b'coz we chose them.Love you.
I agree, i like the #3 are really my favourite as well.. and your pics are OH SO FABULOUS! x
ReplyDeletefirst of all: LOVE your shoes!!!
ReplyDeletesecond...well, I don't have a lot of friends, but I categorize them based on how much I can share with them (and how valuable their advice will be). I have only 1 friend with whom I share everything, she loves me and I think she gets me too :)
But most people love me, but don't get me (hey I'm a fashion blogger with a business administration degree...pretty f*&#ed up situation, no?)
Anna
Like your categorization of friends....now make a cross matrix of types (1, 2,3) and college friends, school friends, blogging friends....that will be interesting table. :))))
ReplyDeleteYou will find all blogging friends fall under 3.
hey i like the post...got me pondering too :)
ReplyDeletesumtimes we really shudnt go about explaining ourselves to everyone who doesnt understand us...m yet to learn that skill though:(
n hey like the shoes!! :)
It seems that evaluate my friends in this manner at least every quarter. Sometimes, there are some that though we may have been great friends and loved and got each other in the past, it was becoming too much of a hassle to maintain the friendship, so I let them go. I've found that my new blogger friends, though they may not know me know me, they get me..chatting with them is not like pulling teeth..hehe.
ReplyDeleteGreat post doll, and you look so lovely in the pictures! Your shoes are gorgeous!
ur side braid so so cute.. :)
ReplyDeleteThat footwear is great!
ReplyDeleteI'd go with #2 type of people myself :)
Hmm I find i hard to segregate ppl like although it's a sensible way but way too practical for me :)
ReplyDeleteLove your look so young and fresh!
very interesting theory!!
ReplyDeleteThough I would like more #2 people in my life, #3 are welcome too :P
and for #1 I am thankful to god :)
oh and sitting inside office in formals that skirt of yours is making me super jealous!! (its hot despite the ACs!!!)
Very cute outfit Tanvi, and looks very cool too (as in Summer heat:) I too have some friends that fall in the #1 category, who love me but think I am bit strange in my thinking:):) Ha, ha, I love them anyway.
ReplyDeleteHa ha head is not spinning but I understand what you are saying. So did you see two movies in one day? Must be nice...I remember those days )before having a child!) We need a movie review please? And super cute skirt...clearly you are having better weather than we are. (raining as we speak....)
ReplyDeleteAmen Tanvi..
ReplyDeleteI love this fresh look.. love the playground backdrop.

Absolutely fantastic!
ReplyDeleteAlmost the best of the best!!
I LOVE the shoes! Lol, your 3,2 and 1(s) were not confusing :) It was a fund read!
ReplyDeleteLoved the heels tanvi :D
ReplyDeleteand i totally agree about the types of friends
www.giasaysthat.com
Love this post. I have friend categories as well, I am now rearranging them so that I do not have too many sections ha ha
ReplyDeleteXX!

This list basically summarized the confusion I sometimes feel about the people around me. #1 are truly strange because their affection never reaches that point where they understand you. And I agree about #3 being the best. Sometimes, you just feel like you have to explain yourself ALL THE TIME but you don't have to do that with a #3. :)
ReplyDeleteI think your breakdown of types of friends is really interesting and definitely makes sense! Also, I think those shoes are to die for! :) Love them!
ReplyDeletelove the braid....looks really good and your hair looks healthy too....
ReplyDeleteYou should do a part (just like you did for glowing skin) about straight beautiful hair....
love the shoes Tanvi, you look lovely.
ReplyDeleteI like your categories. been thinking alot about friends and friendship too. every now and then we need to spring clean, are certain people worthy of being in our lives? I have a friend who never got me, all she does is insult everyone around her and after years of friendship I decided it was a waist of my time. her negativity was effecting me. So i let go...I'm happier now :)
Dena x
Love your shoes, And I agree totally in that it's so important that people get you. There's nothing like it.
ReplyDeleteJuliet xxx
haha...friends nevertheless...let's count our blessings and you seem to have loads of categories of those...enjoy them all:-)
ReplyDeleteI wish there were more ppl who simply get me too!
ReplyDeleteAnd you look lovely in red and pink, fantastic combination:)
xx
Such a cute outfit! We're going to see Bridesmaids tomorrow!
ReplyDeleteLove the shoes!!!
ReplyDeleteWhat I wore to a Museum Visit
Some summer Scarves
All of this is part of growing up and finding your own way, and from where I stand you are doing a superb job.

Tanvi this is the perfect post. The outfit is great you look beautiful, the message is perfect. I want to post this on my blog so everyone can see it! Love ya and I get you I think:))) Have a great week:)
ReplyDeleteYou can put me in any slab. To me, I never forget to show up my expression.
ReplyDeleteLoved this post! I definitely get those shoes!
ReplyDeleteOk I SO get you! And I feel the exact same way. I think that's one of the most rewarding things about blogging actually. You make relationships with people who have common interests as you and they just get you :)
ReplyDeleteAnd so good to hear that you tried this cleanse twice. That's very good motivation for me :)
Oh and love those shoes! xoxo

I like the way you have categorized friends..So true! Love your skirt..very flirty and summery ;)
ReplyDeleteIt's interesting because as you were going through 1, 2 and 3 I decided that 3 would be what I'd go with too. Sometimes it's enough to just be understood.
ReplyDeleteps-i really like your shoes.
xo,
C
I've seen you very often on Style Pile. Also, following you on Twitter.
ReplyDelete:)
Are you married?
WOW.
Always thought you were about our age. :D
Gorgeous! Love the outfit and the shoess!!!!!
http://jitterbug-r.blogspot.com/
Well said and wonderfully thought out. You look beautiful in the shot were you are climbing steps of the slide. Xxxx
ReplyDeleteThose shoes are from Lulu's? Too fabulous! We saw Pirates this weekend too! Loved.
ReplyDeleteinteresting how you categorized ur friends!
ReplyDeleteHow was bridesmaid??
Love those tribal shoes! xo style, she wrote
ReplyDeleteloveee that heart necklace!!!!
ReplyDeletei love your outfit adn i saw bridesmaids and thought it was so funny!
ReplyDeleteI often find myself categorizing my friends in a sort manner that can be called similar to your way, but eventually i have realized that such categorization inevitably brings with it certain preconceived notions and stereotypyes, so now i consciously try to steer away from it and love my life and people in it just for the joy they bring :)
ReplyDeleteAnd you look like a graduate in these pictures, so young and fresh!
This is such an interesting coincidence -- I have the exact same thought today! I was reflecting on how people react to me and I used the same categories you did. Because I'm different, many people don't "get" me. Like you, I feel that being understood is more important than being loved.
ReplyDeleteO.M.G. love ur shoes so muchhhhhhh :D
ReplyDeletethank you for leave ur comment in my blog ...
since i've started blogging, i've definitely had to add a new category of friend: blogging friends! i love having blogging friends who share my same love of fashion and shopping! :)
ReplyDeleteoh, and these shoes are fabulous!
cute & little
come check out the color brigade!
What amazing pumps! I love the mix of pattern and color, they are so chic!
ReplyDeleteChic on the Cheap
I have very few people that just get me. I'm glad my fiance and handful of friends do though. Wow you guys had a movie filled weekend...Cute outfit!
ReplyDeletei love your outfit! i saw pirates, too and LOVED IT!

sorelle in style
Hi!! I reeeally like your shoes and the necklace! I think you've got really nice jewelry ;)
ReplyDeleteAlso your previous look is so cool: You're rocking the masculine & color blocking trend hehe!
Some great shots there.
ReplyDeleteFriendship is something I have thought about a lot. I don't know what I would prefer. I definitely have lots of #1 type people, and I know that a lot of this is because I don't open up to them. I also feel that my favorite type people are those I feel no pressure being around. I don't have to watch every word I say and step I make. Those are the kind of friend I like to be around. Additionally I like people who are different and/or inspiring.
btw, side note, you always have amazing things to talk about. How do you do that?! ;)
lovely look, and good catagories of friends, I agree number 3 is the best because no matter what they will love you regardless to what others influence :)
ReplyDeleteBeen meaning to see Pirates and Bridesmaids - sounds good!
ReplyDeleteNever thought about categorising friends like that but it makes sense!
Do love the shoes though! :D
I have an award for you on my blog
ReplyDelete(http://huesofpink.blogspot.com/2011/05/versatile-blogger-award.html)
I totally 'get' wanting number 3, being understood, whilst being free to be uniquely you.
ReplyDeleteI love the skirt you are wearing in the post, so cute and right off the flowery runways!
http://standard-woman.blogspot.com/
Its important to be understood by dear friends because only then you feel that its a close friendship. Your outfit is so cute! I also adore your hair! Muah, sunshine
ReplyDeleteyour shoes are stunning--i want them! so you saw a double feature--what did you think of Pirates? i haven't seen it, and i'm not sure i will. waiting for the X-Men movie!
ReplyDeleteanyway, i would pick category #3 as my fave type of people as well. #2 seems to be quite rare, but it's always good when others just get you. and category #1, for me at least, usually is for family members--they don't always get you but they do love you.
Oh, you soo inspire me to hit the gym!! :)looking fabulous !
ReplyDeleteTanvi you look adorable. I love those heels too!
ReplyDeleteI never really thought of putting people in my life into categories, but now that I've studied your concept, I actually think I already have my life organized that way mentally, without really acknowledging it. :P
ReplyDeleteBecause you're right, there are people we love who don't get us, but that doesn't mean we have to give those people up (for me, that is family). And the same with the rest.
Oh, and I also really love your shoes. Lol.
I have also categorized my friends in somewhat similar fashion.. and have learnt to behave differently for them.. so its get easier.. different hang out topics .. different expectations..
ReplyDeleteand love those toned legs of yours total killer...
OMG those shoes!!
ReplyDeleteso amazing :)
I see what you are getting at. Yes, the number of people who just 'get' me is small but that's OK. The ones who do are those I'm most comfortable with anyway:)
ReplyDeleteBTW - your heels are fantastic.
Such sweet innocent photos. Braid looks really nice.
ReplyDeleteIn the whole #1,#2,#3, remember you are #1 (but not as per your description!) :-p
Muah
I love your theory and agree w most of it! great post ... but your pics are fabulous. OMG I am dying over those shoes!!!!

If we lived closer, you know I'd have to steal your heels right? Because they're totally awesome and I'm way jealous.
ReplyDeletePS: totally get the whole #1,2,3 thing. :)
Oh I get it.. I totally get it... I get you. I adore you.
ReplyDeleteI have the same giant pile of friends who get separated by chronology, geography, etc etc. Sometimes it's exhausting, especially because I live away from most of them. I think I like your system involving who gets you and who doesn't. Perhaps I should cull some people... :)
ReplyDeleteI get it! You're so smart! We totally get you ;) xo
ReplyDeleteGreat blog and you look amazing. I really love this post because it makes so much sense and I totally categorize friends like that too. hehe...I think most adult women have to do that to enjoy their friendships. :) Following you now
ReplyDeletexoDale
I have a fashion blog here in San Francisco www.savvyspice.blogspot.com
Love the shoes Tanvi!
ReplyDeleteAnd I don't really categorize friend; some of them just automatically come closer to the heart!
your shoes are so hot in this post! Plus, it is amazing how confidently you wear them, I would be flat on my face in those heels.
ReplyDeleteInteresting thoughts... I think I just want people to love me since I don't 'get' myself how could others?
ReplyDeletePretty, pretty shoes, Tanvi. They look lovely on your slim ankles.
Re post above: I'm sure you would run a tight ship and I would gladly fill out the questionnaire, but it tells me: No connection to the server. :(
Wow, those shoes are gorgeous, Tanvi!
ReplyDeleteAs for your categories, I totally understand and it's something I struggle with. It's especially hard when I feel like family fall into category #1. I mean, my family loves me, of course, but sometimes I think they think I'm absolutely INSANE! Moving to Mexico - why?!?!
i love your outfit!
ReplyDeleteEnter My Lyfe ; My Story: Wire Tags Giveaway
I freaking want those shoes! Everything else you said about friendships just fled my mind- it's all about the shoes:-). Looking good as usual Tanvi. Love the wisdom in your categories too:-). XX
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely love the shoes:)
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with the family thing-of course I know that they love me (do they have a choice not to) but they don't get me AT ALL! Is it bad that friends 'get you' more than your own family?
ReplyDeletePS: I was scoping those shoes out too!!! They are HOTTT!!
http://thriftyandshameless.blogspot.com
Hey girl! Sorry for commenting on this one so late.......but better late than never - right??? ;)
ReplyDeleteYou know, even I had LOTS of friends throughout my growing up years (in fact, even now the list just keeps being added to!)......but at times, I realise that only a handful are really true "FRIENDS" as you can call them! But then, true or not, it's always reassuring to have people around who understand us as we are.......and as for those who doesn't, well.....we cannot have everything in life.....can we? :)
P.S.: Those shoes are wow!
