Ageism!

Sometimes I want to hunt down the person who started "It is rude to ask a woman's age" and shoot him (or her!). I, for one, have never got the logic! Why is it rude? Age is, after all, just a number and higher the number means you have managed to survive on this planet for that many years. I have never been ashamed to state my age. Not when I was 10, neither when I was 20 and not even when I am going to be 30 (soon!) ... What's the big deal?

Whoever put this "It is rude to ask a woman's age" in mankind's head is the one to blame the society's fixation with "looking" young and "anti-aging" ... I know people mean it as a compliment when they say, "You don't look 30" but I take it as a mere observation. To me it actually means that I have been successful in taking care of myself in comparison to others my age (instead of abusing my skin with make-up and products). I have no issues looking 30. What I don't want is, to look 50 when I am actually 30. Sometimes I also think that it is not that I look younger than my age, it just might be that everyone around me looks older than their age. Maybe?

Regardless, I believe women should take pride in who they are ... and a part of that is taking pride in your age. [Read: My Mantra] It is after all, in your head. You decide what is cool and what isn't. Often we get stuck in these lames standards of society and forget what our real focus should be on, i.e. Good Health & Happy Life.

I am looking forward to my 30s. 20s were for making mistakes and learning, and 30s are for implementing what I have learnt. So let the games begin...!

Hi Tanvi,

This is my entry for the Reader's Spotlight.

This outfit was put together just to flaunt my new red pants. I wanted a pair since a long time and I my wish was finally granted when I spotted these beauties with a "ON SALE" tag above them. It was love at first sight and a perfect fit.

I was really skeptical about what to pair them with. I did not want to pair them up with black so i went for white instead. I wanted to keep my footwear simple so as not to distract or divide the attention from my pants. As such I opted for my black strappys.

Would really appreciate some suggestions on what else to wear with my red pants.

I love it that you took the plunge and bought colored jeans. Pairing it with a neutral color top for the first wear was perfectly fine but the next time you should definitely have more fun with polka dots, brights colors (think purple!) and/or stripes. What say? I promise you that you won't take them off once you start experimenting! You can see how I can't get enough of my red denims. Also, I think if you picked up more flowing fabrics like silk, crepe or even soft cotton, it would look more flattering on you. But for the first time, I think you did GREAT! Right, people? P.S. Please keep the feedback civil!

After the Youngsters, the next evening was the "Sagai" ceremony. If you wish to know about the rituals from the ceremony you can check the link here.

I was wearing a lehnga-style Saree with the front-pallu and had my hair in an updo. I had tried both these things for the first time. Usually I like to wear my Saree with the back-pallu and like to keep my hair down and simple. (If you have checked the posts from my own wedding, then you already know that!) But since this is the LAST wedding in my family, I thought if I don't experiment now, then when will I?

What is a front/back Pallu? These two primary ways to wear a Saree. The stole-kinda material you see falling in front from the shoulder down till my knees, is called the 'pallu' and this is how it looks when it is worn in front. You can see how it looks when worn back, here, here, here, here & here. WOAH! So that makes this my SIXTH post in a Saree on the blog. Not bad, eh? :)

Shopaholic Tendencies

Last month I was interviewed by a fellow blogger, Komal. She asked me, "Do you sometimes feel that certain blogs urge people towards shopaholic tendencies?" You can check my answer here.

Some how this question has been on my mind again lately and I realized I have more to add to my answer. Fashion/Style Blogging DOES push you towards the Shopaholic tendencies. Period. There are no two ways about it. The products and the "in" thing is shoved in your face day-in-and-day-out. "Oh! Neons are In!", "No wait, now Pastels are In", "I NEED that asymmetrical skirt in my life right now", "O.but I must get my hands on that blazer!", "I would kill for those shoes" etc. etc. etc. Sounds familiar? Yes, right? Well then, we are addicts. You and me, alike.

How do I deal with it?

1. I have a budget and I stick to it NO MATTER WHAT. On average I am not willing to spend more than $20.00 on any piece of clothing. If it is over $20.00 it really has to be worth it. Like an investment piece - Leather Jacket, Winter Boots, Straight Leg Jeans, etc. Something that will last me for a long time regardless of the fashion or location.

2. I purchase most of the clothes in end of season sale instead of when they are "IN" and full price. I have said it before, and I repeat, I am not about to be featured on a red carpet or a celebrity magazine anytime soon. No one cares when I wear my clothes. I could have purchased it when it was a "NEW ITEM" in store and just got around wearing it towards the end of the season. Who's to question? And if they do, how dare they? Mind our own beewax!

So what am I saying here? I am saying don't let me, or any other blogger, or magazine or celebrity or an advertisement influence you in purchasing something you really don't need. Think for yourself. Everyone has the right to say and sell what they want, but its up to YOU to buy it OR NOT!

I absolutely love the idea of interacting through this medium. It will help us so much, to to know that whatever we, the readers, are trying to draw from your blog is going in the right direction or not.

I have always loved how you Mix & Match Indian outfits and pull it off as a western outfit and vice versa. This one idea, inspired from your blog, saved me recently at a friend’s wedding. I had absolutely nothing light in ethnic wear. I had heavy lachas or salwar suits and needed something lighter yet ethnic for the routine (smaller) functions. So I picked up these long skirts and teamed them up, once with an embroidered blouse and once with a kurti (tucked in). Added the dupattas from the salwar suits to complete the “Lacha” look. It worked just fine. I am super thankful to your posts, they proved exceedingly face-saving for me .

Firstly, I am enjoying this series A LOT myself, because so many readers are coming in to the 'Spotlight' from the hiding. Thank you so much for writing it, because it is so wonderful to hear from you.

I for one am all about comfort and less bling in Indian wear. I love how Vidhi has created an outfit out of long skirts, tunics/blouse and a dupatta. Even I hadn't thought of adding the dupatta when I wore a version of this look. It is not visible in these shots, but I do hope that you added some good accessories & footwear with the look, to give it an ethnic vibe. Would you all be brave enough to Mix & Match in an Indian outfit? P.S. Genuine feedback is welcome, nasty criticism is not.

For now, I cannot believe this was 2 months ago! I had been waiting for my brother's wedding, ever since my own wedding ... and now its already over. I feel there is nothing left to look forward to anymore *sob* ... Anyone wants to invite me for their wedding?

WUWT: You are so lucky

Disclaimer: I know I have a lot to be thankful for in my life. This post is NOT about me being ungrateful, JUST about one of my pet-peeves!

N.B. WUWT is an acronym for the phrase I often use when something doesn't make sense to me, i.e. "What's Up With That?"

So, I know that I write a lot about my life, and husband, and family and how it can sometimes come across as if my life is like a fairytale and I live among stars! But seriously you cannot truly believe that? Of course I am probably to blame a little if everyone cannot stop saying, "You are so lucky!" but excuse me if it gets annoying after a while. The only reason I do not write about the 'bad stuff' on the blog is because I do not wish to wash my dirty linen in public, or slander people on my blog. But trust me I have equal amount shizz in my life as the next person. So please quit saying, "You are so lucky!"

I might come across as a feminist, but it is more like a case of discrimination here! Seriously how come every decent thing my husband does for me, ends up in this reaction -> "You are so lucky!" from every woman and, "You must thank him!" from every man?

He loves me, he supports me, dotes up on me, treats me like a queen but isn't this what a good partner would do regardless, when you are in a relationship? And why would you choose to be with a person who treats you like crap and don't support your dreams? And here's a shocker - I, too, love him, support him, am crazy about him and treat him like a king - but no one is coming and telling him, "He is lucky" & "You should thank her!" ... WHY? #notetoself Must ask the husband to start a blog where he writes about everything I do and I shall direct everyone to it!

Some more 'annoying' examples:
"You are so lucky you get to travel so much!" Errr, I don't party, I don't eat out much and I don't buy jewelry - Hence, I can travel!

"You are so lucky you didn't put on weight after loosing it once!" Ya right! Lucky has absolutely nothing to do with. I sweat plenty for that!

"You are so lucky, you have such lovely hair!" I oil them once a week. Do not use hair products (except Moroccan oil). Do not use hair dryers/curler/iron daily either. And of course I eat healthy!

However, I do think I am lucky that my parents gave me a good childhood and education. I mean they could have totally abandoned or ignored me to the point that I became a basket-case and was in some rehab!

Reader's Spotlight (II)

Today's Reader Spotlight is on - Soomya.

She is my stylish and super supportive sister-in-law (husband's cousin). Thank You, Soms for being such a sport and always saying the kindest things.

I had a fun time putting this outfit together for a Dinner with my friends. Since it was cold and dark here in Delhi (December 2011) and I hate wearing black and grey, I decided to play with polka dots. As Tanvi has often suggested, I picked one piece from my closet and planned the outfit around it. I picked the polka dot skirt and paired it with black leggings and a black dinner jacket. I wore a neutral color like white in between to avoid the overdose of pink. I added the finishing touches to the outfit with a string of pearls, lots of bangles (obsessed with them) and black watch.

The inspiration of wearing a white tank with a black net patch came from this post, however, the outfit is loosely inspired from this post. P.S. I am completely in awe of TANVI not just because we are related but for her classic, fun and very inspirational style!

I think it is a super cute look. I love the finishing touches. And let's not forget the satchel which is playing an amazing contrast against the pink skirt. There is nothing like brightening up the cold & dull winter evenings with some bright colors. Whats your verdict people? P.S. Genuine feedback is welcome, nasty criticism is not.

Lust : Valentine's Day 2012

Valentine's Day is just around the corner. I know, right? We were just shopping for New Year Eve's dress. Anyhoo, I thought I will just throw these things out there (in the interweb). A.L.T.H.O.U.G.H. I do not celebrate these fake-Hallmark-created-days B.U.T. then a girl doesn't need a reason to do some harmless online- ~~window~~ screen-shopping. And then not to forget what a great service I am doing to all poor clueless boyfriends/husbands out there who would be looking for last minute ideas to pamper their girlfriends/wives.

P.S. Guys, do buy at least minimum of 3 things from a list 'coz lets face it, giving just a lipstick would be so lame and would probably make her more mad than if you did not give her anything at all! #justsaying

I am Blue

May be it is a cultural thing, may be it is not but I would not know unless I read your comments but here's what I am talking about: [Disclaimer: I am talking purely about first impressions here and not someone you have known forever and ever!]

During my trip to India recently, I realized that my version of a 'good person' is very different from the version of most people in my country (or at least the ones I have met in my life so far!). It is not easy to impress me. I do not get bowled over by anyone and everyone. I am not very generous with compliments or praises either <- that I think I got in my genes. I won't tell from which parent though [:P]. So where were we? Oh! ya I was saying I have pretty high (only 'coz they are rare) but simple standards in terms of whom I will call a "good person" upon first meeting. I was able to make a list of what characteristics I consider a "good person" should have:

My List:

- Punctual

- Well mannered, Polite & Respectful

- Greets you pleasantly

- Treats his/her family right and has well disciplined children

- Let's the other person finish their sentence before speaking

- Takes equal initiative in making small talks

- Says Thank You, Excuse Me, & Sorry when required

You've got all this covered? Well, then Congratulations! You are a "Good Person" in my books based upon first impression.

But there's a different story among my other countrymen:

- Doesn't matter if you arrive late

- Doesn't matter if you are loud and behave like a borderline drunk

- No one cares if your children are misbehaving and tearing the place down

- Doesn't matter if you pick all the wrong topics for small talk

- Also, doesn't matter if you bump into people and never apologize

If you wish to be popular with people (who aren't me, of course!) you need to be syrupy-sweet (a.k.a. fake!), must know how to liven up the party, should be an expert at non-sensical conversations and then should have mastered the art of buttering-up the host to no end. Tick? Tick? Tick? Congratulations! You just became the most popular guest and by default a very-very (yes! thats two verys) "good person".

P.S. The "good person" from my books will probably called snooty, arrogant and/or boring. Go figure!

On the anniversary of your blog, here’s a picture of me!

Just to explain: Instead of wearing a churidaar-kurta to an Indian party, I decided to mix it up, using your advice! I wore a yellow cotton Fab India top with the silk churidaar, and then topped it with an A-cut long sweater. You can see the ring and watch were my major accessories. I decided to wear my red booties to complete the look.

I think she did great! I love when Indian pieces are mixed with western ones to make the outfit pop. What do you guys think? P.S. Genuine feedback is welcome, nasty criticism is not.

Artificial Intelligence

Have you had people steal your thoughts? Let me elaborate. You spoke to someone about your philosophies and/or beliefs in life and they seem all-smitten by your every word and then few days later they present the same thoughts and views to another set of people, in your presence, mind you! as their own and act all mighty and elite. Yeh? That's Artificial Intelligence.

Have you had people steal your ideas? You come up with a brilliant concept or campaign or even a recipe and and then someone comes along and lifts it right-off-your-hands. Goes ahead and implements it using the same fundamentals/ingredients, of course, without giving any credit to you. Hence, becomes the 'enlightened-one' in his/her minuscule life. In other words, Artificial Intelligence.

Have you had people steal your creativity? That's when you are creative (duh!) and pitch an idea to someone (professional/personal) and they reject it outright or act like they are not impressed. Then turn around and pitch the same idea back to you like they have cracked the code of life and attained nirvana instantly. You cannot help, but stare at them and wonder, what just happened? i.e. they have gained Artificial Intelligence.

In other words, these are exactly the kind of people who do not have their own stream of thought, or ideas or even beliefs. They exist on stolen identities. They 'pretend' to be intelligent. I would like to believe that often, they are not even aware of it and hence, I give them benefit of doubt. However, sometimes cannot help but wonder if they are doing it intentionally? ... pretending not only to others but also to themselves and hiding away from the reality of their life. I do hope that my friend A Brit Greek is right about this -> 'KARMA: No need for revenge, just sit back & wait. Those who hurt you will eventually screw up themselves & if you are lucky, God will let you watch'.

Night Princess

As ironic as it is going to sound, yesterday I had a wonderful conversation with a lady at my gym. No, she was not the same Indian lady from the other day. She was American and very much born-and-bred-Texan. We spoke about travel, life, her kids, world economy among many other things. I was fascinated that she lived in Paris for a couple of years but didn't enjoy it due to the grey and gloomy weather. So there, I do love having conversations with people, its just they have to be conversations and not an interrogation! :)

Yesterday I decided to go back to my old gym. I hadn't gone there in a long time, simply 'coz I we moved houses and I took up new activities, but that's for another post. Here's the conversation I had with an Indian ~~Aunty~~ lady I met for the first time.

When I entered the studio, there was just the two of us at the moment:

Lady: Hi!
Me: Hi!
Lady: I have not seen you here before.
Me: Ya, I usually go to the other location, at xyz.
Lady: Ah! I go there too, I haven't seen you there either.
Me: Hmmm ... must be the different timings then.

Lady: Indian?
Me: Yes! *with.a.smile*
Lady: Gujarati?
Me: No! *blank.face*
Lady: Marwari?
Me: No! *not.interested.in.this.conversation.anymore.face*
Lady: Then?
Me: Just Indian, from India. *with.a.smile.again*
Lady: Oh!

Lady: By the way my name is (let's call her ->) Lmnop.
Me: Nice to meet you, I am Tanvi.
Lady: I just went to Bangalore. Met so many Indians there.
Me: (duhh!) That's nice. *with.a.smile*
Lady: I went to India after 28 years.
Me: Wow, that's a long time.

Lady: Punjabi?
Me: No! *are.we.still.on.the.same.topic.?.!.?*
Lady: But Hindu? Sikh? Christian? or?
Me: *she.has.got.to.be.kidding.me* Hindu.*sigh!*
Lady: *with a satisfaction of getting some answer from me* I met a Punjabi couple when I went to India, their daughter's name was also Tanvi. That's why your name sounds familiar.
Me: *don't.know.what.to.say.slash.I.don't.care* Hmmmm *with.a.smile*

Lady: So you go to college here?
Me: No, I am married. *with.a.smile.after.all.she.thought.I.was.in.college*
Lady: Kids?
Me: *here.we.go.again* No. *with.a.stern.face*
Lady: Oh! How long have you been married?
Me: *somebody.save.me* For almost 5 years.
Lady: How long have you been in U.S.?
Me: For almost 5 years.
Lady: So, right after your marriage.
Me: *when.will.this.interrogation.get.over* Yes!
Lady: All the while in San Antonio?
Me: No, we stayed in Austin for little over a year.
Lady: What does your husband do?
Me: He is a scientist. *and.he.ought.to.invent.a.magic.potion.to.make.people.disappear*

Lady: *moving.closer.towards.me* What does he research about?
Me: *I.take.two.steps.back* His research is about yada yada yada
Lady: *starts.her.long.monologue* My husband is a physician, he would understand your husband's work much more [*no.sh--*]. When my husband finished his degree, he too did his research in yada yada yada. My parents are originally from Bombay but when I was born they moved to Hyderabad. So me and my younger sibling are brought up there. We are 4 brothers and sister. Then we all moved to Houston and I did my higher studies here. When I got married I moved to San Antonio and now we have been here for 18 years. That's as long as my eldest son's age. He is 18 years old. *Pause* Do you have any family or brothers and sisters here?
Me: *waking.up.from.my.sleep* No. Its just me and my husband.

*** ... right then the aerobics instructor entered ... THANK GOD! ***

... And people say I don't have patience!

If this is not the testament of my incredible level of patience then I don't know what is!

On Sunday we were watching this movie WARRIOR [A must watch, btw, if you haven't already!] and randomly my mind started wandering about how since over thousands and thousands of years, two absolute strangers have decided to get married (or become partners) and willingly taken the decision to become part of each others' happiness and troubles. I mean, isn't it quite amazing, how closely we get involved and how everything about our lives get intertwined with each other? Our finances, professional decisions, inter-personal relationships which once, were independent of each other, today practically are woven together so tightly that the threads can barely even been seen!?!? I am not quite sure, I am being able to translate my thoughts into words here today but all I am trying to say that it seems like an endearing phenomenon specially since human beings are essentially selfish so how does our pain and sufferings unite with this one person. And then we spend rest of our lives trying to make each other's "life" a little more easier, happier, fuller. Isn't it wonderful and amusing at the same time? Has anyone else ever wondered about it?

I mull-over these trivialities of life and then hubby comes back from work with cake and ice cream and I think, "Whatever, Life is good!" ... oh! and all you single people don't bother about it just yet. party and live it up till the real life and its necessary evils sneak up on you! :)

3 Years & Counting ...

Three years ago on 6th January 2009, I wrote my first post. So why didn't I write about it 2 days ago? Oh! Well. Looks like my brain cells are dying and I didn't recall the 'landmark' date up until midday 6th January 2012. But it was still just in time.

These past three years have been life altering for me in more than one way. Blogging has definitely been a HUGE part of the change and growth. I have met many fabulous people through this medium who have literally changed my life. I would have liked to mention all of them and thank them personally but I won't, only 'coz I do not want to leave anyone out. [But they know who they are!] I would, however, take this moment to thank EACH ONE OF YOU for reading, supporting and encouraging me over the past years. Through you my small-little-life has extended beyond countries and cultures. It has truly been a cherished journey so far ... and it continues ...

Unlike me, Mr. Fabulous remembered the date and its significance.

Highlights of 2011

January - I had a wonderful time visiting Anita & Mr. Anita in Dubai. Spent a good long month with family. Attended weddings for the first time, after my own. And, finally made a trip down to Neemrana.

February - Brother got hitched. Had an amazing lunch with school friends. And went for the weekend away with family, for my birthday to Goa!

March - Attended my first Blogging conference - Texas Style Council in Austin and met so many fabulous bloggers!

April - Experienced the Spring in Washington D.C.

May - Enjoyed the English Summer in London.

June - Spent it in sweltering hot Delhi, planning brother's wedding. Amma passed away!

July - Completed 4 years of marital bliss!

August - Visited agonizingly humid National Harbor.

September - Attended IFB in NYC with Deepti. Met my childhood friend Khushbu after over 4.5 years.

October - October was rather slow! Can't seem to remember anything worth mentioning that happened *hmmm*

November - Went to Bombay and met all the lovely bloggers there. Had another amazing lunch with school friends.

December - December was a wonderful month. Let me repeat, W.O.N.D.E.R.F.U.L. month. My brother got married on the 4th. I had the time-of-my-life celebrating his happiness. I got to meet Anita after ONE WHOLE YEAR. Nothing is ever complete without her! Soon after my husband swept me away to Hawaii for 10 days to unwind from all the wedding-stress. Marriage is just getting better and better after each year ... and now the month is already over. We are counting the last couple of days and then bam! into 2012 :)

Some recent & common pet-peeves!

- New-mothers need to filter their updates on FB. Congratulations on your new bundle of joy! (No sarcasm there!) However, like you would never share your own pooping-burping-pms'ing cycle on a public platform, similar rules apply towards your toddler. No really! What? ... you didn't know? !?!? Well, now you do! :)

- Parents need to discipline their kids. Specially when they plan to venture outside the boundaries of their own home. We get it, you are over the moon that you have a kid! But so have millions of other people over thousands of years. I bet even your parents thought you were 'special' but didn't turn out that way in the end, now did you?

- Old people need to be less grumpy. Yes, I know old age is hard and and we live in a multi-cultural-confused-world. But seriously, how hard is it just smile and be polite? These are simple characteristics which hold true over all the cultures/countries! I have no idea about where I might end up 50 years from now but I would definitely try and smile a lot and not be grumpy! [Do not be grumpy. Do not be grumpy. Do not be grumpy. #nottoself]

- Indian women (in U.S. and everywhere else!) need to be less judgmental towards other Indian women. Guess what, ladies - It is quiet alright to hug and snuggle up your husband/boyfriend in public. It is really not illegal (really!) even if you were told other wise while growing up! So stop staring. NOW!

- Don't judge us by our clothes. Some of us like to dress smartly. Some of us are even stylish. Some of us can look good without spending a bomb. Oh! and our husbands don't judge us for our shopping either, 'coz they know they married economically-and-fashionably-savvy-women! So don't ~~blame~~ judge us for your poor dressing sense. Thank You! P.S. If you want I'd be happy to help. Just ask! :)

- Being on H4 is not a like being on exile. (Backstory: H4 visa is given to women arriving in the U.S. as a dependent to their working husband but are not permitted to work *sigh!*) Yes, we don't work. Yes, we don't earn. Yes, we are educated. Yes, we did leave our careers behind. But NO! we don't get bored. Besides being economically-and-fashionably-savvy-women we are also resourceful, have hobbies, run our households, and indulge in activities which we couldn't while we were working. So we are probably more productive than all of you 'judgemental' people put together. Wanna bet?

P.S. I wanted to post this on Saturday, but refrained in the name of Christmas spirit and good-cheer, but there was no excuse now! :)

Anger & Forgiveness

Yamini & Neha have me thinking about anger and forgiveness lately. I realized that do not fight with anyone as passionately as I did before. For most parts I do not find "it" worth my time. Also, do not find anyone worth fighting 'with' either. As I am growing up it is getting harder and harder to forget, though! Every memory (specially bitter ones!) is starting to become engraved in my brain forever. We have already established that I do not hold grudges, but I do not forget either. In other words it means that a lot of my brain-space is being occupied by unnecessary stuff which I wish I could cltr-alt-del. So the no-fighting part is good. Not-forgetting part, not so much!

Anyhoo, if you are wondering what happened to all the chunky knits?

Mix & Match (XII) & Life without Sugar

If you are a regular here or on my Facebook Page, you know I had taken a sugar sabbatical for 6 months from 1st June to 30th November 2011. A lot of people have/had a lot of questions about my this action. So here I am giving the run-down on all the why's and how's, 'coz for most parts I am a nice person and value my readers' requests and questions ... for most parts! ;)

Sugar Sabbatical

Why?

Two reasons:

1. I was going to be in India for the complete month of June (2011) and by experience I knew that I would be od'ing on all the Indian sweets hence decided to take the pledge to avoid the damage. You know I work hard on my body so it hurts me literally (in my heart!) when it all goes down the drain.

2. Earlier this year, I some how became addicted to having some form of chocolate on daily basis. Like I had to have a KitKat or a cookie or a cake every.single.night else I wouldn't get sleep! I husband had to ration my chocolate intake and hide all-things-sweets before going to work! So I had to take some drastic steps to break that habit. I do not like being addicted to anything. I repeat, anything! I am a super woman and I can do anything!

How?

I took the decision to quit quite spontaneously sometime in May! I didn't think much about it prior to taking the giant step! Once the D Day arrived I started educating myself. Obvious things to avoid were chocolates, cookies, cakes, candies, bottled beverages, etc. (you get the idea). Slowly I learnt that a most of the pre-packaged food items like chips, breads, canned foods, etc. all have added sugar in them.

Within the first week I had the clear idea of what all I could not eat any more and the answer was pretty simple - ANYTHING WHICH IS NOT NATURALLY SWEET!

What?

So what did I eat when I got the sugar cravings? - Fruits, Nuts and Vegetables!

Breakfast was the hardest meal to manage as I realized that most of the options had added-sugar (yogurts, protein bars, cereal, etc.). I chose Muesli for most times, which tastes like cardboard so I added raisins to add some sweetness. All the other meals were easier with the option of lots of veggies.

1st Dec. 2011

We were celebrating my sister-in-law's Bachelorette Party on 30th November, so as soon as the clock turned 12 midnight, she nudged to break my sabbatical on her special day with a slice of chocolate cake and of course there was no question of turning her down. However, after having it I felt quite sick in my stomach and didn't feel I was missing out of anything (though everyone else seemed to enjoy the cake a lot!). Later in the day I had some Indian sweets (courtesy: Dad!) which gave me some major stomach ache, i.e. I was over sugar and nothing seemed as sweet as before (literally and metaphorically, both)

Now what?

Oh well!

I am trying to stay on track.
I do not get sugar cravings any more.
I do not "need" chocolate any more.
I get satisfied in small portions of everything.
I hope to keep the 'added sugar' to the minimum in my meals
And continue on my path of ultimate fitness!

Expectations!

With time I have learnt to have the least possible expectations from people. It doesn't mean I have given up on mankind. It only means that I have decided to give everyone A LOT of space to be whoever they want to be! It is not easy but it is also, not impossible. Every time I feel a 'grudge' or 'bitterness' growing inside me, for someone failed me or didn't live up to my expectation (how were they to know?) I tell myself that, "Every one is doing the best they can!" There is already so much stress in life, simply to even exist ... why add to the drama with unnecessary expectations? I know it is easier said than done, but it CAN be done. With a little practice and a little mental-tuning, it CAN be done. Anything for the peace of mind! Right? :)
