Conviction To Follow Through

Shoshanna Amora Dress Tanvii.com

I was watching a show this weekend (The Missing - Second Season) where no one agrees with one of the characters - not his wife, or his colleagues, or anyone else who crosses paths with him. And that does not deter him in any way for he believes that he is on to something and follows his conviction right till the end. Also, mind you, he is suffering from a severe illness, and even that doesn't dissuade him from what he thinks is the 'right thing to do'.

Now this got me thinking ... analyzing myself. Will I be able to follow my conviction even if no one agreed with me? Do I have it in me to row against the tide? One must need a special gift - an ability to analyze a situation purely on instinct and logic, without getting influenced by external factors or others' opinions. No?

I have always been fascinated by strong willed people. Those who have clarity of thought and courage to follow their head (and heart!) no-matter-what, for I believe one should only be answerable to their own conscious and be able to make decisions based on what they believe is right. I have not met many such people. Most people are living on borrowed thoughts and/or are too lazy to walk against the tide.

... what a satisfying life it must be, when you know you are living on your own terms. That's definitely my aspiration.

Moving on to the outfit, ... you can't tell from the pictures, but these were taken a couple of weeks back when it was still freezing and I was out there shooting spring looks. A big shoutout to Sassanova (for the dress) and Jessica (for photography) for collaborating with me on this post.

  4. Those seated photos are really lovely.

And that's one thing that's really great about children and elderly people. They always have strong convictions.

  11. Oh yes, i admire puerile who have the courage of their convictions as well. It's never easy fighting for what you believe in especially if you're the only one fighting for it Better to stand alone in truth than in a crowd with a lie!

  12. What a coincidence, I was just trying to find a new series to watch. We finished The Looming Towers last night and what an eye opener. They also followed their own convictions but maybe for all the wrong reasons. I'd be keen to see The Missing, strong people fascinate me too. And on that note, you're a strong woman already. After following your blog for so many months, I honestly think you would stand up for what you believe in no matter what. Jeez Tanvi, you even braved the elements in a tiny, beautiful dress to do the photoshoot ;-)

  14. Beautiful outfit, you are looking beautiful dear Tanvii! I think sometimes you have to trust yourself, it can be easy to decide if others have an afflicting opinion regarding your wellfare or if they want to hold you back. It takes guts to trust yourself sometimes.

  15. I know some people that are extremely strong willed and I think that you have to have a lot of confidence in what you're doing and what you know to be that strong willed otherwise you're just stubborn. It would be nice to be one of those people that isn't influenced away from their gut feeling. Sometimes, even when I know I'm right, I just follow what someone else says because I don't have the confidence in what I'm saying and then I end up being right! It's definitely interesting lol.

  18. I try my best to live my life the way I choose. It comes with age for sure. It feels great to not have to worry about what someone will think because you’re doing base on yourself. Sometimes it’s hard but when it’s good it’s the best feeling, love the look!-Chastity

  19. Whoa. This post made me think, that's for sure. I think you've got a really fascinating concept to consider here. It's hard to even think about being alone in your life and the decisions that you make. Thank you for sharing this so I can ponder it further!

  23. Tanvi you look absolutely ravishing! The dress, the shoes, are perfect!
I think I belong to that kind of people with strong will you were describing. Since I was very young I encountered the feeling that "everyone else were wrong or unable to see as I saw crystal clear" that something needed/could/should be done. Well, let me tell you is far from being such a good thing as you think. It has been a struggle because I wasn't terminally ill, so people wouldn't let me do as i thought. It is a tough path to have everyone disagree, and if it turns out that you were right, NOBODY will say, "yes, congratulations, you were right" quite the opposite. In this process you end up losing lots of "friends" and you end up surrounded by a minimal number of people who "believe" in you. It is a very lonely life. And in all this the GREATEST lesson a strong willed person has to learn is to learn to listen to others and to learn to trust others. Yes, it is a daily struggle, sometimes I wish I was more prone to be influenced by others, I wouldn't feel like all the responsibility lies on my shoulders.

  24. I’ve never seen that show, but know what kind of convinction you’re talking about - it’s definitely hard to find and requires a lot of faith and strong will to stick to your beliefs. Also, love your outfit here
