I Went With Something Generic

spgamex Tanvii.com

This post's title would have been more accurate had it been 'Public Service Announcement'. But since that sounds like a news telecast more than a lifestyle blogpost title, I went with something generic.

Here's the thing - I get a lot of feedback, on all social media platforms ... which is cool because A) it comes with the territory and B) I often ask for it and welcome it. I like feedback primarily because I enjoy learning about people and their thoughts. I find it quite exhilarating to exchange ideas with people and seeing things from their perspective. Sometimes it is amusing and other times it is entertaining (and seldom it is hurtful but I try not to dwell on it). However, as always I digress.

I was taking about 'Public Service Announcement', so here goes - my posts where I share my thoughts and opinions (e.g.are never in the actual order of how those thoughts came into my brain. Neither are those posts in real time (except this. this is in real time). Mostly I write my thoughts down whenever they strike me, then I ponder over them. If I think they are worth sharing or if it is something I feel strongly about then I try and elaborate on them ... still exclusively in my notepad. I continue to do so till I am happy with whatever I have written. And then I post it. It could make it on the blog a few weeks later, sometimes even months later, but it is rarely ever in real time.

The reason I felt the need to mention it on the blog is because sometimes the feedback I receive on my posts is from people know/knew me in real life. They then assume that I am going through that 'right now' or worse they assume that just because they read my blog, that counts as 'keeping in touch'. I thought I will put it out there that my posts are not in real time and often the snippets of my thoughts shared here are just that snippets and not the whole story.

And with that said let's move on to the outfit. I wore this, this past weekend for a spg + American Express party at the National Museum of African American History. Usually we never take pictures past sunset, but we tried and they came out pretty good. What do you guys think?

  1. That's a gorgeous dress and the pictures are really good Tanvi, did you have to use any special lighting?

  2. I don't think I could have said it better myself. I know we are in different blogging world, me booking and you personal/fashion. BUt I often get the same from my family. When I make comments or compare a book I was reading to my personal life, I'm often confronted and asked if I'm ok or why would I share that ( that's my personal favorite). And most definitely reading a person blog in a not a keep in touch, because if that was the case I keep in touch with a whole lot of people.

  4. love this! the dress is beautiful and your PSA is spot on. It can be a little frustrating when people constantly are checking in on me regarding something that I wrote weeks ago - i know its well intended but it's usually people that know how blogging works and that very little is in real time.

  5. I love how the outfit looks on you! I especially like how the green jacket accentuates your look. :) I agree about the PSA announcement. People should ask questions and engage with you instead of just making snap judgments.

  6. I completely agree with your PSA, about your blog being only a snippet of your life. Especially if you post say, once or twice a week, there's never gonna be enough words to talk about everything that goes on in your life. I think it says a lot when people think your blog is the main way of keeping up to date with you, too, because that isn't always the case. I love those photos, too; I think stepping out of your comfort zone really paid off!

  8. I saw your instastory from the museum and it looked really cool. It does suck that the days are getting darker faster, but good job turning a bad situation into some nice photos!

  11. I think your pictures came out beautifully, its not easy photographing at night. I love your dress too, very beautiful. I think its a great way to process your thoughts that way. Jotting them down and then giving them the time they deserve to have actual thought behind them. Opinions and ideas grow when we make them more of a passing thing :)

  20. First off let me compliment you on your Beautiful photos. Fell in love with that dress you wearing, it is gorgeous.
Like you I also get that type of feedback request from Family and Friends. How do you jot down your thoughts, is it a paper notepad or device? I'm a bit disorganized in that aspect, I have my thoughts scribbled down all over the place, a notepad, drafts in blog and OneNote. Think I must concentrate on organizing where I keep my "thoughts".
