Personal Appearance Matters

Printed Tunic Dress Tanvii.com

Ever since I started blogging, I have come across my fair share of people who do not hesitate to tell me that they 'don't care about fashion much'. I usually smile and ignore. That is how I deal with most things in life, because I have learned that no one really cares for a response. But I digress. What I actually wish I could say to them was it's okay to not care about fashion or clothes. But you must care about your personal appearance. Not just for the external reasons or what others would "think" about you but because what you wear and the way you look affects:
  1. the way you think,
  2. the way you feel,
  3. the way you behave, and then
  4. the way others react or respond to you.

If your appearance didn't truly matter to you then you would actually be roaming the streets naked (and that is fine too!). But if you choose to wear clothes then might as well make an effort.

Moving on to the outfit, I am wearing a simple tunic dress. It was one of the many light-cotton-dresses I took on my week long trip to Malta. This was our first day and we were off to explore Valletta. More about Malta to follow in the coming weeks.

  2. Ha! People wandering the streets naked! To be honest I've never been into fashion too much.. but I do care about what I wear and I love shopping! This dress looks perfect for walking around sightseeing, I love how it's so floaty!

  5. To me Monday-Friday I'm usually just in work out gear just because I'm a busy mom with two minions.. one in school and one that has physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy.. I don't have the time nor need to get all dressed up every day.. however on the weekends I do take a few extra minutes to look nice. I'm sure I get those looks of omg that mom in work out gear but I dont mind at all.

  6. I totally agree. What you wear really shows through the way you feel and carry yourself. I am loving those slide ons and glasses!

  7. Personal appearance absolutely matters. It reflects what you think about yourself. Sloppy, wrinkled, ill fitting clothes may not represent who you really are but others will assume it matches you. I don't think you have to like "fashion" but you do need to care about how you are presenting yourself to the world. Others will take you at what you are showing them.

  8. i think the whole not caring about fashion is different than how you carry yourself no? i totally see what you mean when people say they dont really care..

  9. Cute outfit! And I agree, that it matters as long as you are happy in your own aethestic and comfort level. Fashion shouldn't be elitist, but an opportunity to wear your heart on your sleeve and express your inner self.

  10. It has happened to me before and totally agree with you... And when I'm dressed up I feel more confident than when I just wear whatever, and I think people are the same tbh, how are you going to feel confident meeting people and wearing sweats, right?
Btw, I love the whole look!

  11. I do agree that when I look put together I feel more confident, but I think there's a fine line between caring too much and realizing that we are beautiful whether we fit societal expectations for beauty or not. This dress is gorgeous and looks perfect for hot days!

  13. I agree - how you dress is a form of self expression, a confidence booster, and so much more. Thank you for sharing! You look stunning in that dress, btw :)

  16. I don't necessarily agree. I think you can be confident with or without fashion. I work from home & dress casually. I often run errands with no makeup & in casual clothes. Other times, i wear makeup & wear nicer clothes (not while working). It's more about whatever mood I'm in. I've never really cared for fashion. That's a cute dress, BTW!

  17. I think what you said in this post is important. People do care what they wear and how they look; otherwise, why would we consume so much? Lovely outfit, by the way!

  21. I completely agree that personal style matters. For instance I dress sometimes based on how I feel.

  22. I love the dress, it is super pretty. I agree that how you look matter, especially cause people learn really young that it does. It should not but it still does.

  23. I agree completely! A person can simultaneously not put too much emphasis on fashion but still put a litte effort about presenting themselves in the best light.

  24. I agree about the fact that the way you dress affects a lot of things in our lives! But it shouldn't change the way people react towards each other :/

  25. Very nice outfit. I agree that it does matter. Let me tell you I was in an office setting today and there was girl who even though was wearing a kimono over her see through shirt she was not wearing a bra. Like I love how that trend is coming out now. But it's not appropriate.

  26. I really like the color. This dress looks very pretty on you. I'm going to check out the slide ons. I'm seeing a trend.

  27. I feel like personal appearance is so important! It's the first thing people see and analyze before hearing you speak.

  28. What a pretty dress for summer. If I'm not careful, I find myself always reaching for my yoga pants and a tee. If I take a few minutes to reach for a dress instead, I always have a little more spring in my step as I go about the day! x

  32. Great thoughts. We have different personality types because we have different fashion styles. So we choose the clothes we want to wear and feel goodness in every move.

  33. I really have no idea why I haven't purchased these shoes yet. And I totally love this color on you and what you had to say about personal appearance. I don't care about fashion, but I do care about personal style.
