Jardin Majorelle

We visited "Jardin Majorelle" on the last day of out trip. We almost didn't go. Thank God! better sense prevailed. It was an absolutely splendid experience (at mark 16:38). Had we not visited, we would have definitely regretted it.

Jacques Majorelle used to say: “The painter has the modesty to regard this enclosure of floral verdure as his most beautiful work.” He referred to the garden as “ vast splendours whose harmony I have orchestrated… This garden is a momentous task, to which I give myself entirely. It will take my last years from me and I will fall, exhausted, under its branches, after having given it all my love.”

The fame of Jacques Majorelle’s garden grew, and even surpassed that of his paintings.

The more the artist travelled, the more he enjoyed gardening; he began to bring plants from around the world and to communicate internationally with people who shared his passion for botany. He acquired hundreds of rare varieties of trees and plants: cacti, palm trees, bamboo, coconut palms, thujas, weeping willows, carob trees, jasmine, agaves, white water lilies, datura, cypress, bougainvilleas, and ferns. As in the composition of a painting, Majorelle arranged the species between light and shadow around a long central basin and along irregular, meandering walkways with curved, painted walls.

Yves Saint Laurent and Pierre Bergé discovered the 🔹Jardin Majorelle🔹in 1966, during their first stay in Marrakech and bought it in 1980 to save it from being converted into a hotel complex.

Outfit & Travel Log - Marrakech

Travel, Travel Outfit, Travel Photography, Morocco, Tanvii.com

From Madrid, we head directly to Marrakech and spent four days exploring the city and its culture. It was similar to the other middle eastern countries and also has a flavor of old-time India. But it was still unique in its own way. You have already seen a few glimpses of my time in Marrakech here and here. However, before we decided to relax and unwind, we had quite a whirlwind of few days exploring the old town and the country side. I will be sharing more about the city and places to visit in the coming weeks. For now, enjoy the pictures.

I know, then you must be wondering why am I sharing it in the reverse order? Well, I wanted to post the travel logs in the the right sequence. I wasn't that OCD about the outfits and the photos. I know, I can be pretty random like that.

If you do not subscribe to my YouTube channel you are missing out on mid-week content. I share travel logs, book reviews and random musings there, which I do not share on the blog. So you are interested in those, you must subscribe to the channel. But if you don't care about those things, then you are good. :)

Cabin Fever

writing this on Sunday, 7:20pm

Jonas passed and we survived without any power outage! #SmallBlessings I didn't step out of the house even once. Not even when the snow fall stopped. 1) My husband didn't let me 2) I was too lazy to wear clothes to-pile-on layers 3) I didn't want my cough to get worse. All good reasons, right?

I did however cook up a storm - Chana Masala (Chickpeas - Indian style), Dal Makhani (Lentils - Indian style), Litpite Aalo (Potatoes in thick tomato gravy), Jeera Pulao (Cumin Rice), Mattar Do Pyaaza (Peas sautéed in onions) ... and I forget what else. Tomorrow is also close down since the roads are yet to be cleared so I plan to cook Bharwan Bhindi and something with cauliflower. If the weather had permitted, I would invited you all over. I can easily feed a small country with the amount of food I have at home.

As for the outfit, I was able to shoot this right before the snow fall. When I got this coat, my husband wasn't sure where I will get to wear it, as it is practically a blanket. And now, I cannot imagine getting out in anything else. Hope y'all had a good weekend!

What to watch on Netflix

Fellow east coast residents, are you ready for Jonas? I don't mean Jonas brothers. I mean the blizzard! I think I am prepared for a weekend indoors with warm clothes and some hot cocoa. I am also hoping that we would have electricity, else what would I do without the internet?!!?! (Reading books is an option but having internet would be helpful too!)

So below are some of the documentaries on Netflix, which I highly recommend:

Happy - What stayed with me from this documentary was that a person living in the slums of Calcutta is as happy as an average American. Isn't it interested? The documentary explores the concept of happiness and what makes people happy. An enlightening watch!

Bill Cunningham New York - If you are a fashion blogger then you have definitely heard of Bill Cunningham. He is a street style photographer who lives in the New York City and has been photographing new yorkers for half a decade (way before fashion blogging was a thing). He is 86 years old and one of the most endearing people I have come to know (virtually). His strong work ethic is what stayed with my after watching this documentary. I HIGHLY recommend this even if you are not a fashion or photography enthusiast.

Marley - Are you a Bob Marley fan? I am not. But we all feel we know him. Isn't it? I watched this documentary one mundane day and it sucked me in. I realized I knew nothing about him. He was an interesting person and had so much more to his personality other than music. Also, isn't it interesting how all iconic musicians die so young? Even when there were no drugs involved?

The World Before Her - I saw this documentary last year. It shows the stark contrast between beauty pageants versus Hindu fundamentalists' camps and yet how similarly both these places treat women was quite heart-wrenching. To view India through this documentary for eye-opening in many ways.

Making a Murderer - Last but not the least, the most talked about documentary all over U.S. for the past month. I am sure you have heard about unless you have been living under a rock for some odd reason. This was heart breaking, controversial, and I am never breaking the law in this country. Ever! Must watch it, just to know how bad things can get when law and law-makers are not in sync.

You can catch these this weekend, while you are stuck indoors, you know, provided the power doesn't go out! Now that you know my taste in documentaries, let me now know if you have any recommendations for me, in the comments below. Have a good weekend and stay safe!

Today I am sharing my winter skincare regime, which includes a lot of quality products which provide deep cleansing and long lasting moisture, which is much needed in these frigid months. You might remember the summer skincare routine, which was more or less a similar process, just with summer-friendly products.

You might remember from my previous beauty posts, that Neutrogena has been part of my beauty regime since my teenage years. And this winter I am shaking up my routine a bit and using AVEENO® for the first time!

This winter I have incorporated AVEENO® Absolutely Ageless Nourishing Cleanser, and AVEENO® Absolutely Ageless Daily Moisturizer in my beauty regime.

It has an anti-oxidant rich blackberry leaf extract which preserves skin's natural moisture while removing 99% of impurities, without over drying.

Second step: I apply a pea-size amount of eye cream on the eye crease and dab it lightly around the area.

Third, apply face serum all over your face and let is absorb for 10 seconds before applying anything else.

Last but not the least, I massage a generous amount of AVEENO® Absolutely Ageless Daily Moisturizer all over my face and neck till its well absorbed

What I like the most about this moisturizer is that is has a broad spectrum SPF 30 and while protecting it also reduces the look of fine lines and wrinkles, smoothing the over all skin texture.

Bonus: An sometimes, when my skin is feeling extra dry, or I feel like pampering myself a little more, I massage my face with Argan Rose Oil (which I bought in Morocco!)

So that's it guys! The whole regime doesn't take longer than 7 minutes. If you have a combination skin, you can give this a try too!
