Healthy Meal Ideas12:00 AM
2016 has been a year of breaking old habits and making new (healthy) ones. First week of January, I decided to give a kick-start to my healthy eating habits. My husband and I decided to experiment six days of NO SUGAR, NO STARCH, & NO DAIRY and on seventh day eat our hearts out. (What triggered the decision and how it went coming up tomorrow). Today I am sharing the food choices I have made during that week (6 six days) and also in the following weeks.
In the past, even when I am making good choices, I have struggled with portion control. Also on cheat days I felt I always went over board. Re-setting my diet in this drastic way (for just one week) has helped me with both those issues. I am keeping my fingers-crossed that these new habits are life long and not temporary. I will keep you posted on how it goes, and promise to report back even when I fail.
Below is what my husband and I ate for the first six days. Over the course of following three weeks, we added healthy carbs and fruits back but only in moderation and for no more than once a week.
I am a vegetarian who doesn't eat any meat or raw egg.
My husband eats everything and has no dietary restrictions.
1/2 Banana (the only fruit I ate that week)
Protein Shake + Almond Milk
Boiled Egg (Husband)
Mint Tea with Honey
Mixed Green Salad with tomato, cucumber, green peppers
Spinach salad with grilled chicken, avocado, cucumber,
Black Bean Soup
Stir fried tofu and broccoli
Roasted broccoli and cauliflower with garlic
Grilled chicken with vegetables (Husband)
Grilled salmon (Husband)
- Roasted and lightly salted almonds
- Raw Pepper with hummus
I started including the following once a week, and no more:
- Goat Cheese
I will be sharing the recipes on YouTube in the coming months, so be sure to subscribe to my channel. Also, I snap while cooking once in a while so if you are on Snapchat, add me 'tanviidotcom'.
