Driven By Feelings

I have been thinking about how it doesn't matter what a person says to you, if you do not believe it to be true, or if it does not touch your heart. I tend to gauge the words by how they make me feel. There have been more than one instances where I am told that I am missed, or loved, or admired, or appreciated. But I do not always believe those statements to be true. If the words (or actions) do not touch my soul, or move me in anyway then I refuse to feel manipulated by their emotions. Someone can love and admire you all they want, but if it never truly touches a chord in you and you don't feel loved then what is the point?

In my experience not everyone is earnest about their words and emotions. Sometimes people just say things on a whim, sometimes they say things to fill the silence, and sometimes they say what is expected of them. And sometimes, just sometimes they say what they mean.

In my life, I have come across only a handful of people who have the ability to say what they mean, and more importantly they know how to say what they mean. But one thing that makes me believe them, is the consistency in their behavior. That, probably is why we all take our parents for granted. Parents always love us (consistently) no matter what. It is hard to achieve that kind of relationship with others in life.

What surprises me the most is when I find genuine connection with people with whom I have just met, or when I just know I would not get along with someone by their body language. I have often tried to break down my thought process to understand how did I reach this conclusion. There is rarely a logical one. I have learnt that I am all about intuitions, feelings, and that-random-connection. And when I find that I never let it go!

Gabbing With Tanvi (YouTube) - Episode Three

YouTube Series, Prompt game, Tanvii.com, long drives, family games

It has already been four weeks since I started the YouTube channel. How crazy is that? Time is flying, eh! And I ain't complaining. I have been loving every single day of spring. Long Live Spring!

Anyhoo, moving on ... I cannot thank you all for many-many reasons. However, two which are on my mind today are: Firstly for the fabulous feedback on last week's YouTube Interview with Dr. Mudita. I am so glad that you all found it helpful. It is gratifying to create content which is well received. as always, if you have any suggestions, anything you would like to ask me or anyone you would like me to interview, do let me know. I am always open to your feedback and suggestions. Secondly for the love and support. I have never been the one to celebrate hitting a "follower" mark but having so many of y'all on board in less than a month, is encouraging and pushes me to continue to create fresh and engaging content.

As for today's episode of Gabbing With Tanvi, Dr. Fab and myself are letting you in on a game we often play while we are on long drives, walks or just getting bored. Hope you enjoy this light-hearted episode.

"Undo" Button In Real Life

I have been wondering about the "undo" button in real life. And if I could use it, what would I decide to undo? I haven't decided yet, (for certain).

We all like to make positive-reaffirmations inspired by the great quotes by great writers. One of the most common one being - I have no regrets, I am where am because of all the mistakes I made. While that is true, but if we had the courage to truly accept the reality we all would find that there are a few instances where we would rather press the "undo" button than have them on our portfolio has "experiences". Am I right?

Things To Pack For A Beach Vacation In Bahamas

Thing To Pack For A Beach Vacation In Bahamas, Tanvii.com, Packing List, Beach Vacation

It has been over six months since our trip to the Bahamas. However, this post is just in time, as I am sure many of you are off to a beach destination. While these are my picks for Bahamas, you can practically take them to any other island too.

Clothes

Weather in the Bahamas is warm year-round, with temperatures in the 70s and 80s in both winter and summer, so pack light clothing. Evenings can be a bit cool though, so bring a jacket or a sweater for after sunset. Evening dinners or night out with family would require dresses for women, closed-toe shoes and trousers for men.

Sun Protection

Undeniably one of the most important items to pack for any beach vacation. Even if you are traveling light, make sure you pack one as sun screen is often priced steeply at resorts or other beach location.

Sports Gear

If you are into working out or enjoy water sports you must carry appropriate gear. However, it would depend on whether you are checking in a bag or not, as you can also rent the gear so it is just a matter of cost effectiveness.

Footwear

Pack a pair of supportive, comfortable shoes or sandals for walking around resorts, and for general sightseeing. Flip-flops for the the poolside or beach. For going out, wear a pair of lightweight dress shoes that look elegant but won't be uncomfortable in the warm weather.

Insect Repellent
Mosquitoes are found all over the Bahamas and will have you covered in itchy bites if you step out without protection even for a second. To keep them away, pack an insect repellent.

Sex, Cheating, Commitment (YouTube) - Interview Series

This is my very first time interviewing someone in person, and it is none other than Dr. Mudita Rastogi. She has been a reader and a supporter of my blog (and everything else I have ever done in my life) from the very first post. She is someone I look up to and aspire to be like. Even though she might not know, but I often take cues from her on how one can be productive in life and career, active in lifestyle, and genuinely be interested in people's lives. I am so honored that she agreed to do this interview for my YouTube channel.

So a couple of weeks back I asked y'all, "if you had ONE burning question to ask a Therapist what would it be?" I wasn't expecting the number of questions I received, so as an amateur interviewer I thought, "eh, I will be able to fit them all in" but when I started preparing I realized unless I was planning to air a 60-minute edition, there is no way in hell that I will be able to achieve that goal. So I brought down the questions to TOP FIVE which I thought would resonate with the majority of my readers. I sure hope I was right. So hit play below and find out the answers to some of the most commonly asked/wondered questions by women.

Below are the questions I had asked:

  1. Do you think it is harder for people in our generation (25-35) to commit? Is this a trend, or, in your experience, is marriage still something people aspire for?
  2. What steps can new or long-term couples take to strengthen their relationship? Are there any books that you would recommend for them to read?
  1. How can couples avoid conflicts that may arise from in-laws living with them? What are the other reasons that lead to conflict in marriage?
  2. What are the biggest misconceptions when it comes frequency of sex and a successful marriage?
  3. Why do people cheat? Is there one fundamental reason for cheating?

Do let me know your thoughts about the Interview. Did you find it helpful? Also, I am open to your suggestions and ideas about what you would like to see on the YouTube channel. If you haven't already, you can fill the survey by clicking the link button or feel free to Facebook / Tweet / Email me.

Beauty Talk: New Products

one / two / three / four / five / six / seven

Disclaimer: Please read my previous post on my skin type to make an informed opinion/decision. Also, these products might or might not be available in India and/or outside United States.

oneFog less Shower Mirror

At first I wasn’t sure if this mirror will be useful for me, as I am a woman and I do not shave my face but now having used it I don't think I can do with out it.

It is rather easy to set up - Place the hook for the mirror according to your height and then press it into the wall. However, you have to be certain about where you want to place it as once it is in, it shall stay on the wall until you physically remove it! The razor hook is a nice feature, as is allows you to remove the mirror and use it for other purposes. The hooks are made of stainless steel. It comes in a brushed steel finish, and is not bulky. Hence, does not take up a lot of space. The mirror is made of plastic, therefore if it slips or falls down, it won’t break into pieces.

two: Yes To Blueberries Cleansing Facial Wipes

These are gentle, easy to use, and smell great. I love to have them handy when I am on the go. I always carry them in my purse or keep a pack in my car to freshen my face up on a hot day.

three
NeoStrata Foaming Glycolic Wash*

If you are looking for a deep cleanse use NeoStrata Foaming Glycolic Wash - AHA 20. This potent formula uses alpha hydroxy acids to exfoliate and encourage cell renewal. These ingredients help fade the look of fine lines, wrinkles, dark spots and blemishes. It contains a high concentration of exfoliating ingredients, and hence is the best anti-aging face wash for experienced glycolic acid users. Beginning your regimen with NeoStrata Foaming Glycolic Wash - AHA 20 will unclog pores and prepare the skin to receive active ingredients from your other products.

If you find it harsh or are not used to glycol acid, in the beginning I would suggest using it every alternate day and after a month make is part of your daily routine. NeoStrata Foaming Glycolic Wash - AHA 20 combines 18% glycolic acid and 2% lactobionic acid to exfoliate a damaged and uneven complexion. These ingredients unclog congested pores to promote healthy and clear skin. This cleanser also sheds dead cells to soften fine lines and a rough texture. Like other glycolic acid products, this face wash may cause irritation, redness and flaking for those with sensitive skin. It’s formula reaches deep down into pores to gently remove dirt, oil, makeup and other debris for a fresh, clean feeling. Try this soap-free, dye-free and fragrance-free cleanser that reveals softer, smoother and more radiant skin.

Caution: Keep in mind that skin needs only one reliable exfoliant at a time. You may be tempted to double (or triple) up, but doing so can backfire and be more irritating than helpful.

four: Coppertone Sport Sunscreen Lotion SPF 50

While it is a great sunscreen, it is not that great for the clothing. It leaves an orange stain which irreversibly damages the clothes. Definitely not purchasing this again.
five: Hydraulic Acid Serumby Amara Organics*
I use one pump of this serum every night before going to bed. The application is clear and smooth. It dries evenly and leaves my skin smelling divine. It is packed with natural ingredients such as Jojoba Oil, Green Tea, and Vitamin C & E. This product contains no parabens, alcohol, and has not been tested on animals. The results are incredible. This intense hydration formula locks in moisture, giving skin a soft, dewy glow. You wake up with healthy and shining skin.

six: Retinol Serum by Amara Organics*

Retinol helps reduce and diminish fine lines and wrinkles, hyper-pigmentation, which includes both age spots and sun damage, reduces and heals scarring. It also clears up acne. When absorbed into the skin, it turns into retinoic acid, which then affects your skin cells and how they will behave. I have been using the Retinol Serum for about three weeks and it has diminished my recent acne scar I had around the cheeks area and chin area. It also has hydrated the skin giving it a smoother and healthier appearance. I think what impressed me the most is that the results were visible in a few weeks. I also was pleasantly surprised to have no irritation, dryness or redness.

This is an all natural, organic, lightweight gel. I noticed instant results as it tightened and hydrated the skin around the eyes, leaving my face feeling smooth and soft. No animal products, alcohol, or parabens are included in the formula. The gel absorbs quickly without leaving any residue and though meant for the eyes, the gel is suitable for use on any part of the face. The product comes backed by a 365 day money back guarantee.

* These products were provided to me at no cost. All opinions mentioned are my own.

Why So Bitchy?

I have been lately trying to understand what compels people to leave mean, nasty or rude remarks all over the Internet, whether it's on YouTube or Blog or other websites. This is not a thought that I am pondering over as a blogger, but as a person who spends a lot of time reading and researching for stuff online and often come across comments which I personally feel are pointless. They do not provide constructive criticism or any sort of feedback. They are often written with spite and are in abusive language. So here's what I wonder - What could be the possible outcome that the commenter is trying to achieve with that kind of feedback?

I cannot recall even one instance when have I ever left a mean or abusive comment anywhere on the Internet. For one, I rarely feel I have time to write a succinct and clear comment on other people's posts when I disagree with them, secondly I know by experience that no one cares what anyone else thinks. They wanted to put their thoughts out there ... they did and if you don't like it don't watch/read it. And thirdly I have never found anything to be THAT big a deal that I ever needed to go all full-blast-bitch on them.

Sure, I've disagreed with people's thoughts or rolled my eyes at what they decided to put out there for public consumption but I choose to keep my thoughts to myself or share them with people close to me OR if something leaves an impactful impression on me, then I blog about it (without calling them out or getting abusive).

So I am back to my original question, what compels others to share their unnecessary comments on other people's posts / blogs / website etc.?

What Should Be In Your Make-Up Kit?

What Should Be In Your Makeup Kit?, Tanvii.com

What Should Be In Your Makeup Kit?

Whether you’re a makeup beginner or a seasoned pro, stocking your makeup kit appropriately to your needs is essential. Based on your skill level, you can stock just the basics, or put a full arsenal of professional level secrets and techniques inside. But where should you start? Here’s a quick cheat sheet for putting together the beauty toolkit of your dreams!

Just the Foundation, Ma’am:
A great look begins with a flawless canvas. The myth about foundation is that you need to slather it all over your face, but according to experts at RealSimple.com, a no-show foundation is best applied only to areas with uneven tone or discoloration. If you only need light to medium coverage, consider a BB cream. BB creams are a blend of tinted moisturizer, a primer, and most have SPF coverage, which you should wear every day, anyway! Not sure of your shade? It’s always best to ask a professional. Any cosmetics counter will have someone who can help you find your best shade! If you’re intent on flying solo on this one, you can sweep several different shades vertically across your jawline, and whichever shade is barely visible is the one best for you.

If you’re struggling with dark under-eye circles or blemishes, you’ll also need a good concealer. You want a creamy formula that won’t make your problems worse or damage the sensitive skin beneath the eye. The best technique, writes Melissa Gold for Divine Caroline, is to first use a non-greasy eye cream, then use your ring finger to gently dab concealer onto the dark areas below the eye. After waiting for it to sink in for a minute, blend the edges into the skin. Be careful not to press too hard and rub the product off your skin.

Color Me Pretty
Once you’ve got a clean slate, it’s time to start bringing out your best features! The first item on this agenda should be a good natural blush. The right shade can bring a pop to just the apple of the cheek, giving the appearance of a light blush, not the appearance of wearing blush. Avoid shimmer, and until you’re comfortable, start out using a lighter shade. The writers at Teen Vogue recommend also adding a neutral bronzer to your makeup bag basics. If you decide to go this route, make sure the bronzer isn’t more than a shade or two darker than your skin tone. Use a contour brush and apply bronzer sparingly beneath your cheekbones, blending upward. In the winter, or if you prefer not to go the bronzer route, a similar contouring effect can be achieved with using slightly different shades of blush, with the lighter one on the apple of the cheek and sweeping lightly across the cheekbone, and the darker shade blended slightly beneath.

Next it’s time to define the eyes. You’ll want a neutral eye shadow to brighten up the eyelid, and a more medium shade for the crease, to add definition and depth. If you feel like all of these cheek and eye colors are getting too complicated, consider buying a makeup palette, like one available in the Makeup Kits Collection from Nykaa. Collections like the one at Nykaa also sell preselected groups of products, which are a great way to build your ideal makeup kit or experiment with products, too.

That Photo Finish
For a more finished look, you’ll want to define your eyes further with an eyeliner pencil or liquid. A softer brown pencil looks more natural and is more easily applied. Pencils can be blended or smudged for a softer, smokier effect. For more advanced makeup artists, a liquid or gel liner is the only way to get that perfect retro look and make a bold statement. Mascara is also an essential: Teen Vogue insists it should be the first makeup every girl buys.  The darker lashes from mascara will frame the eye and give it more definition.
A universally flattering lipgloss is also a must have for every makeup kit. The best shades have only a little bit of tint in a pale shade, and the shine will soften and enhance your lips, making them appear fuller. Most of us want a bit more depth from our lipcolor, however. A good long wear nude lipstick can take you from workday into night, especially with a smoky eye palette, or go bolder with a defined or more natural eye. Finally, sweep on some translucent powder to set the foundation and create a finished look.

Don’t forget to add in a few beauty tools, like tweezers, lash curlers, and brushes, and of course, what makeup kit would be complete without makeup remover wipes? Once you’ve got the basics, the sky’s the limit with what you can do. You can choose to keep it simple, or completely go for it!

Three Ways To Style A Floral Tank

Three Ways To Style A Floral Tank, Tanvii.com
1 / 2 / 3

I have had this floral tank since 2009. Every year I decide to give it away during Spring Cleaning and every year I change my mind. It fits fine. It goes with everything and I cannot find a reason why I should not continue to keep it in my closet. So that is that. Looks like it is sticking around for another spring.

That's what I love about classic printed tops which are durable enough to last after several washes. Floral is something which will never go out of trend. So is layering. So might as well invest in a few no-brainer pieces early on and then recycle them over and over again. What say?

Lime Green & White

OMG is the weekend already over? I cannot believe its a new week already. I have absolutely no idea where my days are going. We had a busy weekend, with little bit of cooking, workout, creating fresh new content for YouTube and taking outfit photos, along with other household chores. Over all a super-productive weekend. Hope y'all had a good one too.

As for the outfit, I wore it for a brunch. I was having a hard time layering this white dress with a light jacket and I would have never thought lime green would have looked good when paired with white. I don't know what got inside me to give this combination a try but I am so glad I did, 'coz it looks so spring appropriate. No?

Lust List: Maxi Dresses UNDER $100

Summer is here (almost). I am so happy about it. You know me, I love me some Maxi (not the pads!). Every year, I invest in a couple of maxis which last me the whole season and then some. This is one piece where I do not spend the big bucks on. I try to keep it under $100 bucks because I know the regular wear and wash would not let them last for too long. Below are some pieces which are UNDER $100. This Calvin Klein just made the cut (yay!).

Why I Miss Pre-Internet World (YouTube) - Episode One

Alright people! Looks like I am really going ahead with this whole YouTube thing. I am starting with the series "Gabbing With Tanvi" which is nothing more than just you guys having to listen to my non-stop gab which might or might not have any point of relevance.

People who know me, would tell you that I practically have an opinion about everything in life. And when I have an opinion I express is rather passionately. My husband finds that amusing and thinks it should be shared with the world. My theory is that he wants you all to suffer as much as he has to on daily basis with my blabber.

But don't worry, this is not what the YouTube Channel will be all about. While a few of your did suggest making random thoughts/gab videos, other expressed that they would like to see more How-To videos in decor, fitness, and even fashion, movie reviews, Self-help and inspirational talk. I will try my best to do what I can in all the above areas. It is still not late to leave your suggestion. You can do that in the comment section below, or fill the survey by clicking the below button or feel free to Facebook / Tweet / Email me. I (really!) am in the mood to get candid. Don't hold back. :)

PLEASE NOTE: I love emails from my readers. The emails that I find annoying are mostly work related.

Spring Date Night

Thank you so much for the overwhelming response to the YouTube Channel. I am excited that y'all are excited for this new venture. I have read and made note of all your suggestions. I will try my best to incorporate everything in my videos in the coming months.

To share the behind-the-scenes with y'all - I have been obsessed with all-things-video for the past couple of months. From shooting-editing-music and other nitty-gritty details. The perfectionist in me is working over time and non-stop. It is frustrating at times, but mostly it is exciting to have a new hobby and to feel the butterflies of creating something new again.

Thank you again for all your support and feedback.
