Five Easy Spring Looks

Spring in a limbo right now, teasing you everyday with sunshine, but evading you with chilly winds. It has become rather hard to dress without having to test the weather through a window and then quickly shutting it with a shudder.
Nonetheless, planning for Spring is in full throttle. Some spring ready looks are being added to the closet and I am literally counting days to when I can step out in a single layer. Since there is still a nip in the air light layers are a must. Denim jackets and light blazers and spring sweaters are your best friend in this season. Below are few of my simple and go-to-looks for spring:
  1. Layer your dresses with denim jacket
  2. Bring out your shorts with a blazer
  3. Wear your dresses with a sweater and make it look like a skirt #DoubleDuty
  4.  Layer maxi skirts everything with cardigans
  5.  Pairing denims with a cute sweater in always in fashion

Three Ways To Style A Striped Scarf

Three Ways To Style A Striped Scarf, Tanvii.com
1 / 2 / 3
This has to be my favorite scarf of all time. Well, not of all time since I have only had it for a year, but I god-damn-love-it! It is bright and pretty and so spring-y! I pick different colors from the stripes and style it with contrasting solids tops. That's the positive side of pick multi-colored striped accessories. It increases your ability to use them by two folds.
I have been using it as a dupatta (Indian way to wearing a scarf) as well as a scarf. I am waiting to break into it again this spring. Do you too have such a scarf, that you cannot live without?

Indian Print Spring Dress

Spring has been playing peek-a-boo with us, but it is way better than what we were dealing with a month ago. This was the first weekend we spend outdoors. It felt SO good. I have all kinds of plans up in the air - a possible girls trip, visit to local events and exhibits, brunches with friends, try new hiking trails and the list goes on ...
Over to the outfit, I have a big 'spring cleaning' pile ready to go to the charity and in the mean time I have been adding some springy dresses to my closet. Like this one below ...

Lust List: Light Spring Sweaters

via
Looks like I spoke too soon! It is snowing today and it is supposed to be the first day of spring. I guess, since I have kept the heavy knits about I would have to make do with some Spring Sweaters.
... that aside, I think spring sweaters are practically mandatory in this part of the world. You wouldn't be able to roam around bare shoulders anytime before May. Below are a few options on my list. This looks quite versatile for a day-to-night look. However, this is right-on-trend with the sporty chic. I cannot make my mind. Which one is your favorite?

Let's Wrap Up Winter, Shall We?

Spring arrives in 2 days. So it is safe to assume that winter is behind us now. Right? I for one have packed my chunky knit and heavy coats away, so now if snow returns, I will be freezing my butt-off in the cold. I am in fact busy making list for spring closet revival. I feel I am in a rut. I need to do some spring cleaning and add a few new pieces to my clothing an accessory. I already wore this dress in my last post, I also want to get this skirt, this top and this nose ring. Phew! It is an ever growing long list ...
Anyhoo, below are few outfit posts from the past 3 months, which never made to the blog, for reasons unknown to me :P ... However, I thought now would be a good time to get them out there. Who wants to see heavy layers post March 20th? Not me!

Pastel Striped Knit Dress

... it has, what seems like a lifelong journey, to be happy with who I am and to not compromise on what I want from my life in order to be 'liked' by people. It is easier said than done though, isn't it?
How can you be whatever you intend to be when you continuously feel the pressure of expectations. How can you make independent life choices when others are pinning their happiness with your decisions. Or when you feel forced to change your path in the name of safety, security or diplomacy.
I constantly find myself walking the thin line between being myself and still being socially acceptable. Sometimes, I think I better get a placard around my neck which says, "I am not a bitch, I just like doing what I want to do, y'know?" In fact, in my next life I want to be born as Larry David (or at least a stand-up comedian!) and say whatever the hell comes to my mind. Life would be so much easier. And fun. No?

10 Reasons Why You Are Not Losing Weight

Top - GapFit // Leggings - Get Off Yours // Socks - Chrissy Socks // Shoes - Puma // Tanvii.com

Last time we had tackled the excuses, today we tackle the misconceptions or misinformation. I have time and again received questions here, from my readers, about how their efforts do not translate into weight loss. Below the the ten reasons I can think of why that might be happening:

1. All cardio, no strength

Women often spend, 80% of their workout time on a cardio machine (treadmill, elliptical, etc.) and give a meagre 20% to weight/strength training. Switch that and you will see quick result. Weights do not make you bulky or muscular. Instead not only does it prevent injury by strengthening the joints, but it also builds muscle mass and increases metabolic rate.

2. No accountability

You overestimate your calorie burn and/or your calorie in take. You assume that because you are opting for healthier food options and working-out it is a reason enough to over indulge. Write things down or even better download an app (my favorite: myfitnesspal) and feed your daily activity and food and track your progress daily.

3. No Food Planning

To keep a lid on how much you eat, plan each day's food consumption. Know when you'll eat, and how much. Don't snack not on cookies and candy, instead on high in protein, natural foods such as nuts, raisins, quinoa - because they help keep you feeling full for a long time.

4. Same old routine

You do not switch your workouts and rely on the same routine day-in-day-out. Newsflash: Your body has got accustomed to your workout and is not challenging it enough to make a difference. It is good to mix things up and try and do different activity everyday. Or at least every week. Aerobics, dance, yoga, spinning, body pump, etc. to your workout routine to maximize your results.

5. Lack of sleep

Research shows that people who stay up late tend to eat more high-fat and high-calories foods than those who tuck in earlier. Seven hours of sleep is necessary for anyone. Learn why, here

6. Inconsistency

If you don't workout regularly, you do not see results. Consistency is the key! There is no way around hard work. Every body works differently. Personally, I see results 2-3 weeks later. For example, if I am regular with my workout and clean eating throughout this week, I will see result three weeks later, aka first week of April. And if I fall of the bandwagon before that I will never see results. You do the maths.

7. Excessive Snacking

Bad news: exercise makes you want to eat more—but of course, you shouldn't! Most of us grossly overestimate the number of calories we burn during out workout. The good news: high-intensity workouts help contain your appetite. Hence, pick up the pace and decrease food cravings. #2 & #3 will also come in handy to solve this problem!

8. Sedentary Lifestyle

Just working out might not be enough, if your remaining of the day is stationary or is spent on a chair. Try and take a walking break. Experts recommend setting a timer on the computer to remind you to move every hour. Take the stairs instead of the elevator, park far away from the mall, etc. etc.

9. Poor Digestion

You are not what you eat; you are what you digest and absorb! Our gut health will determine our overall wellbeing. The bacteria that lies in our gut helps us to fight disease, process our food, make nutrients and make hormones etc. Also, if you're feeling low, tired, and moody and your diet contains alcohol, coffee and sugar, you need to give your body a break. When your liver is sluggish, it struggles to process substances/toxins/hormones efficiently and this leads to toxic build up and this will inevitably cause weight gain.

10. Don't Drink Water

Last but not the least, we've all heard how important H2O is when it comes to shedding pounds. It helps to suppress appetite, so you're less likely to overeat. But that's not all: When you're dehydrated, your kidneys can't function properly, so the body turns to the liver for additional support. Because the liver is working so hard, more of the fat you consume is stored rather than burned off.

All Things Jewelry

Let's talk jewelry, shall we? You know, I love me some bling! I sell it for crying out loud. But I also love understated and edgy pieces. Below are few of the companies attracting my attention.
  1. It's been months and a lot of Donations and attention has faded from Lou Gehrig’s disease as the social buzz from the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge has ended, but Must Jewelry commits to continue to make a difference through an Ice Bucket themed line using their finest silver, gold and diamonds. Below I have styled the Ice Bucket Pendant in sterling silver with round brilliant diamonds. P.S. Twenty percent of all sales go directly to the ALS Association.
  2. I had mentioned about Rocksbox back in January. I am still loving them. For a $19/per month you get three pieces of jewelry on loan. You fill the survey and they send you the pieces which match your style. And for a limited time you can get your first month free by using the code: tanviixoxo - Don't take my word for it. Try it for yourself. Below I have styled the earrings and the rings I received in my March Rocksbox!
  3. Last but not the least, a shameless plug for Crazy & Co. We have added one of a kind colorful #IndiaInspired pieces to the collection. Check out our new arrivals and see if you fancy something!
