All Black Head-To-Toe

It has been a week long socializing and eating. I am kinda exhausted with all the talking this requires. My daily-scene doesn't involve much talking. Even if I combined the total talk-time, I am certain I do not speak for more than 45mins out of the 24 hours. For next couple of days I would have kept 'maun vrat' (vow of silence) if I could. Anyhoo, I hope my readers in the States, had a great Thanksgiving and from other countries a fun weekend.

Moving on to the outfit ... this is from last Friday. I believe I translated the 'black friday' too literally in my dressing. All black is a rare sighting on me, but I am loving the fall backdrop. What do you think?

How to Ace Your First Cruise

Cruise holidays are a great way to explore some world class destinations whilst enjoying a relaxing break. Being on a luxury cruise liner takes the stress out of traveling, leaving more time to relax, enjoy the onboard facilities and take in the sights. If you’re planning to sail the seven seas, you’ll want to follow this handy guide.

Choose the perfect ship

Set aside plenty of time to research the different ships, comparing the facilities and accommodation options. It could be difference between the holiday of a lifetime or an experience you’ll be happy to forget. Whether you’re seeking family-friendly amenities or a smaller intimate cruise to rekindle the romance, the options are endless.

Pick the itinerary

Once you’ve selected an appropriate cruise line, you can now make a list of potential destinations. Consider what you want from the holiday whether that’s a beach paradise or European city tour. Fans of the outdoors may be more interested in an extreme cruise to the Antarctic or Alaska.

Book your cabin

First timers should book their cabin on one of the lower decks, midship - this is considered the best place to avoid seasickness. You’ll also want to consider the level of luxury as many rooms include additional extras such as a butler service or furnished balcony which comes at a cost.

Arrange a visa

Always check the visa requirements for your chosen destinations well in advance. Without a visa, the cruise ship may deny entry or not let you depart at a port of call.

Use a travel agent

Don’t’ make the mistake of booking the trip yourself in an effort to save money. Travel agents often provide the cheapest price and they’ll be able to guide you through any decisions and help with visa requirements. They may also include extras as an added incentive to book, which may include complimentary spa treatments or a room upgrade.

Consider the options

A selection of add-on packages can be bought to make you even more comfortable whilst travelling. This may include internet, a laundry service or access to exclusive restaurants.

Try all the restaurants
Once on board, make reservations with the ships smaller, specialty restaurants to see which ones you prefer early on. It can be tempting to dine at the main restaurant but don’t follow the crowd. Sample some of the smaller venues and you’ll be pleasantly surprised.

Do your homework

Before leaving home, research the sights and attractions for each port you will be stopping at. Shore excursions can be booked in advance, allowing you to get the most out of your limited time on shore.

Attend port talks

Many of the large cruise ships provide lectures and talks each evening on the following day’s port of call. This will provide essential information on attractions, how to get around and where to find an ATM.

Meet the crew

Becoming acquainted with the ship’s crew members is a great way to learn more about the facilities and the different ports of call that will be visited. Famed for their level of hospitality, cruise staff will be more than happy to help.

Follow these simple steps and you can be guaranteed a memorable cruise without any hiccups.

Three Ways To Style A Light Sweater

Three Ways To Style A Light Sweater
1 / 2 / 3
I bought this light sweater several years back, and I thought it would be hard to style the star in everyday life. Thankfully, I was wrong. I have styled this sweater gizillion times in the past years. You can wear it as a spring/fall layer or style it over a dress. Since the fabric is light, it can be worn throughout the year. If you have a light sweater in your closet, consider styling it in different seasons to get more wear.

On WUSA9 Live - Great Day Washington

We still have one more month to go in 2015, before I start counting the achievements of 2015. But this has been a year of personal growth and facing fears and overcoming challenges. I am often asked to share how I changed myself, or how I motivated myself to workout, or challenged myself to try new things, or had the courage to live by myself. I never had an answer ... I do today. It is because I made a decision. I made a promise to myself.

One of my strong qualities (which my Mom often told me, but as always I never listened) is that all I need is, to make a decision. Once I make a decision, I follow it through. I never look back or waver from my goal.

While growing up, I was an introvert kid. I was extremely self aware of myself and never wanted to put myself out there, due to the fear of making a fool of myself. I distinctly remember the day when I decided to change. I told myself I am going to be extrovert now. And I became.

Then several years later, I found myself unhappy with my body. I was frustrated that I never fit into the clothes that I really wanted to wear. I never felt pretty. I never felt sexy. I never felt attractive. Then just like that, I remember one fine day I decided to change that. I joined a gym and started working out. 10 years later I am fit. I feel extremely sexy in my body and I love myself.

Again came a time when I realized I do not take enough risks. I am concerned about people's opinions and views. And I decided I am not going to any more and I started taking pride in who I was. I decided to spend two weeks by myself this May. Went on a weekend trip all by myself. I was hesitant of videos, so I started a YouTube Channel. I was nervous of public speaking, so I participated in a Travel Panel. And I was petrified of going on LIVE television and then I went ahead and did just that.

Morning of Tuesday, 24th November 2015, I went LIVE on Great Day Washington, to speak in National Vegan Month segment. It was a very last minute gig. Morgan asked me if I would be interested in doing it, as I am a (99%) Vegan? (Thanks Morgan!) I was nervous for a second, but that very instant I decided, " I am going to do it!" I had to keep the promise I have made to myself. 2015 was the year of saying, "Yes!". I said "Yes!" to every opportunity and challenge came my way. It might not be a big deal in broad scheme of things, but for me, it has been a leap. For which I am proud of myself.

And in the spirit of Thanksgiving season, I would like to thank every single person, who has supported me, encouraged me, and been kind to me.

And if you are interested in knowing if I made a fool of myself on LIVE TV or not, please click play below! :)

End of Fall

Let me introduce you to my new-found-love: UncommonGoods. It is a privately-owned retailer that has a collection of unique jewelry, designer d├ęcor, and handcrafted gifts which are created without harming the environment, animals or people. It is a cherry on the top that not only do they follow sustainable practices, they have an array of handmade pieces from artisans around the country. Click here to check out their personalized jewelry. Their brand name and mission statement, especially struck a chord with me:
"As we enter a new age of business, we'll remain focused on our commitment to sustainability and creative design. We'll never stop working to provide a remarkable shopping experience to our customers, make our company our team members' favorite place to work, celebrate craftsmanship and innovation, and support our community of artisans, designers, and creative thinkers. We have a feeling the future will be uncommonly good."
Moving on to the outfit ... Winter is here people. And I refuse to get off my couch. Its freezing and I am not-lovin'-it! It was perfect fall-like weather till Friday (that's when these pictures were taken) and then Boom! suddenly it got chilly. Thankfully, I got most of my outdoorsy-work, holidays gifts (click here for some great ideas), christmas tree, stuff for 'friends-giving', accomplished before just in time.

Secret to a Sexy Married Life

Secret To A Sexy Marriage, Fiera,

Remember the first time you laid your eyes on each other? The butterflies in the stomach? Couldn't keep your hands off each other? When getting mad at each other was rather 'cute' and not a fight? ... And then life happened!

You have probably been with each other for years. You know everything there is to know about your partner. You don't want to have sex every day any more. You want your space (six days of the weeks). You realized you are not all that same as you had thought the first week of dating. And now the spark is not as strong.

That's not the end of of your relationship all though. It doesn't have to be. You can keep it exciting. You have to just put in a little more effort.

Bergen 10
Five Ways To Keep The Spark Alive In Your Marriage:

  1. Loose all forms of technology after hours - Put your phone, iPad, gaming console, what-have-you away, after the mutually agreed upon time. I know, you thought this was only when you lived under your parents' supervision, but unfortunately relationships require the same level of disciple and focus.
  2. Make time for date nights - Whether that is once a week, or once a month, have a date night and bring your A-game. Just as you had when you had just started dating. Plan the evening, dress-up, smell good and compliment each other. P.S. Talk-sexy!
  3. Be adventurous - Take a dance lesson? Learn cooking? May be a yoga class? Just keep the spontaneity going. It gets dull when you know every single day of the rest of your life is going to be same! Also, don't put the burden of all the 'fun' on one person. Both of you need to be committed to the adventure. (ahem! remember my controversial thoughts on marriage?)
  4. Prioritize each other - Be considerate. Be grateful for everything your partner does for you. Make time for each other's interests and passions. Try and keep your partner's feeling in consideration while taking big decisions. It is not all that hard. You just have to be a good human being, not only to your friends, family or strangers but also to your partner.
  5. Try new things (sexually) - Last but not the least, sex! Be adventurous in bed too. Try new positions. May be give role-playing a try? Ask your man to cook you a relaxing meal? Ladies, if you need a little help, try Fiera®. It is a small, hands-free device that is designed to encourage blood flow and lubrication, warming up women’s body for a more satisfying intimate experience. Fiera® recognizes that women may need an extra touch, hence calling it ‘before-play,’ to help get your mind and body in the mood. Not bad, right?
Oslo 24
The bottom line is that the secret to a sexy marriage is having lots of fun with your partner. While, I would never admit this to my husband, (because he is always trying to make me say that he is my best friend, and I don't) BUT in any strong relationship your partner, overtime becomes your best friend. And it’s important not to neglect each other. Have a wild night out, or goof around at home, even playfully tease one another, or surprise one another with a impromptu trip. Simply enjoy each other’s company!

In other news, life has been good. Weekends have been pretty good and eventful lately.

  1. Saw a Hindi movie -Prem Ratan Dhan Payo. Check out this parody about the movie, which I enjoyed more than the movie itself
  2. Started watching Master of None. Aziz Ansari is genuis. One of the better comedy shows I have seen in recent times.
  3. Watched a Three Act play on Indira Gandhi called Indira. It wasn't what I had expected and I wanted to pull my hair or run out of the auditorium. I did neither.
That's all the update on my weekend. How was your's? Did anything fun?

Hela Spa DC

If you know me or follow me on Snapchat ('tanviidotcom') you know that I am dead serious about my facial regime. I do not apply very many products but the ones I do, I am thorough and disciplined about them. I have a regime, which you can check here, and I follow it to the T.

Ever since I moved to DC I have been on a look out for a med-spa with aesthetic options (facials, peels, etc.) for seasonal cleansing and exfoliating. The couple of places I had tried, I wasn't satisfied with their services. Last week, that changed.

Hela Spa DC 2
with, fellow ambassador Kristyn, from Primp & Proper
I had an opportunity to visit and learn about the facilities at Hela Spa with the #GTBloggerCrawl. We learned about their establishment and all the services their offer at their Georgetown location. I was one of the two ambassadors for the spa and they very graciously offered us a cleansing facial and B12 shot, on the house. I made an appointment for the following Tuesday right away. I am happy to inform that my search for a good facial has finally ended.

Hela Spa DC 3
Treatment Room
I made an appointment for a cleansing facial and B12 shot the same day. I was running late due the ghastly downpour and infamous DC traffic, but they were kind enough to squeeze me in nonetheless. I was attended to by the lovely Shara who took time to examine my skin and explain to me what my skin needed. The facial was pitch perfect and it left my skin feeling nourished and healthy. I took a minute to run my daily skin care regime with Shara, and she gave it a two-thumbs-up. So double yay! for me.

Hela Spa DC 5
Ready for my B12 shot! (Photo by Kristyn)
Next I was headed for the B12 shot. It is supposed to increase mental capacity and body function. An injection is more effective than the oral supplements as it doesn't have the toxin cyanide attached to it. Now it been three days since I took the shot, and it might be too early to report. You can read more about the B12 shot here.

Last but not the least, you can hit play below and come along with on the crawl and check out Hela Spa, in action.

I am so glad to have found Hela Spa. It had been a 18 month long search but I am glad to now have a go-to med-spa in DC. If you are in the area, be sure to visit and make an appointment with Shara

Cyber Monday 101

Cyber Monday 1

Shopping time is upon us and the deals are starting to come in. But if you are an avid online shopper like me then you must be waiting for the almighty Cyber Monday (Nov. 30th).

Scoring big on Cyber Monday means starting early — and I don't just mean logging online at midnight. Here's a 101 to help you prepare for the online-shopping event of the year.

Cyber Monday 4
Before Cyber Monday
Set up an account before hand to expedite check out, so that you'll be ready to go on Monday morning. Check out for coupons, free shipping, and free gifts for more than 800 online retailers. is your one-stop shop for the best Cyber Monday promotions. Remember to read the return policy before finalizing your purchase. And be on the lookout for hourly specials all day on Nov. 30.

Retailers start to release their Cyber Monday ads earlier each year. Use all that extra lead time to your advantage. Figure out which stores will have the best deal on the products you're after, and when their sale starts, so you'll be ready to pounce as soon as deals go live.

Want to be alerted of the deals the site is featuring? will send you emails about the best money saving deals from the most popular stores of the season. Just enter your email address at the bottom of the website and click ‘Submit’, it’s that easy. Few of the deals that I grabbed were from DvF, where you get $50 off for every $250 spent, or Neiman Marcus, where they have 25% off all cashmere, and last but not the least Saks 5th OFF is offering Free Shipping on all order over $99.

Cyber Monday 2
On Cyber Monday
Wake up early (or stay up late). Internet inventories are not endless, and the best deals will go fast. In addition to hundreds of special offers, some of which will be exclusive promotions available only on the site, will be featuring a Deal of the Hour on its front page on Black Friday and Cyber Monday highlighting a different retail promotion every 60 minutes.

Look for the "https" in your browser; the "s" indicates that your transaction is secure. Print both the screen on which you see the product you're buying plus your confirmation page. Then you can compare your order to the shipment when it arrives.

When determining which store has the best deal on an item, be sure to factor in shipping costs. On offers could also include dollars off, percentages off, and free gifts with purchase at some of your favorite stores.

Curated gift guides available on would take away the stress of holiday shopping with recommended categories, products and stores for everyone on your list. However, popular gift items sell out quickly, and may only be available in limited quantities to begin with; so, it's important to have a back-up gift idea.

Cyber Monday 5
... And you are done!
Now sit back and enjoy rest of your day or get back to your other chores, because you just conquered Cyber Monday hassle-free and have gifts for everyone on your list, from the comfort of your home (or more like couch!). Come next year, just repeat this whole process and you are good to go!

First Home Must-Haves

Hoover 0

If you are a first time home-owner, you know that the struggle is real. There are so many things you realize you need, which were not even on your radar before. I remember seeing whole lot of stuff at the stores and wondering why would I ever need 'that'. Now I know. You need it all.

Being a home-owner is no joke. Unless you have an army of helpers to assist you in the upkeep and chores, you have to get your hands dirty. Here are some of my must haves for the first-time home owners.

Let's start with first things first:
  1. Home Insurance - You must sign up for the home insurance as soon as you sign the papers for your place. I hope you had a renter's insurance while you were renting, but if not, do not take this lightly any more. Things can go wrong any second and home insurance helps you minimize your cost of repairs and living expenses if something happens to your house. Fire, wind, hail, lightning, theft—you should be covered.
  2. Hoover 3
  3. Home Security System - I have been a victim of burglary once when I was renting and ever since I have had a Home Security System. If nothing else it is for my peace of mind and having some sense of control.
  4. Lawn Mower - Now over to the home-gadgets. You need to upkeep your home and the front yard (and/or back yard). You need a lawn mower or a grass trimmer at best. I know, what has life some to, right? This is my least favorite house chore.
  5. Hoover 1
    via Hoover
  6. Cordless Vacuum - I used to love vacuuming as a kid. Until I moved to the States and then I realized the whole house is carpeted and you can to vacuum every corner. That's when you realize, you need a cordless vacuum. No cord means you have freedom to move about your home with ease; no plugging and unplugging, no winding and rewinding and most importantly, no tripping, tugging or tangling. #LifeSaver BonusOnly the cordless line is powered by an interchangeable battery system that works with all products in the Hoover cordless line
  7. Hoover 4
  8. Tools & Ladder - Yeah. Now you have to be a proud owner of a tool box with hammer, nails and everything. Of course, you need a ladder too. #GrownUpLife
  9. Cleaning Products - Oh. Well. These are a no brainer, really. You always need cleaning products. Except, now you need them in more quantity and higher frequency.
  10. Hoover 2
  11. Emergency Bag - Flash Light, Batteries, Blankets, Non-perishable Bag for emergency, y'know!
  12. A Secret Key - For every time you forget your key in your 'other' bag and lock yourself out of your own house. Or for other severe aka real emergencies, it is a good idea to have a secret key, at a secret spot, or with your neighbor or family if they live close by.
These are my must-haves. Do you have something you would like to add to the list? Did you agree with mine? Would love to hear your thoughts in the comments below.
