How To Wake Up Early?

How To Wake Up Early, Tanvii.com, Tips, Reader's Question, YouTube

We are back with my favorite series: Readers' Questions. Sometimes, readers ask me questions for this YouTube series specifically, on other times they just ask me a question and I decide to answer it here. Renu asked me this question on Instagram but I have been asked this question hundreds of times over the years, and since Snapchat, more frequently.

You can hear my answer in the video below, but here are some more tips on how you can practice to wake up early:
  1. Start with small changes. Instead of trying to wake up at 5:00am when you usually wake up at 7:00am, try waking up at 6:45am instead.
  2. Get rid of all technology after 9:00pm. I know it is hard. It is hard for me too. But discipline yourself to shut down all gadgets and get in bed with a book. Fiction preferably.
  3. Build a Night time routine. Mine is wash my face, apply my body lotion, face cream and eye serum. Once you do create a routine, your body learns to recognize it as sleep time.
One of my personal tricks when I struggle to wake up early is to keep my phone in another room, with an alarm. When I have to walk half way across the hall to shut the alarm, I feel I might as well just wake up and go on with my day.

So these are my three secret tips on waking up early. I hope they help you all. And thank you Renu for your question. Like I keep repeating, you all are welcome to share your feedback (positive as well as critical). I love hearing from you and answering your questions. Three Easy Looks With L'Oreal Makeup

It is no secret that I am a minimal make-up girl and I do not shy away from sporting my no-make-up aka real face every day. However, a girl needs to put in the effort once in a while. Sometimes, I do it for myself, sometimes it is for my husband, other times it is just because I want to be creative. On my face! :)

However, I have no major make-up skill. I do the same thing, all-the-time. With the only exception being the eyes. :)

1. After my basic face regime, I apply the BB creme
Make Up, L'Oreal, Basic, Tanvii.com, #LorealBeauty, #CollectiveBias

2. Next is the eyeliner.

3. Followed by the mascara.

4. Finishing with a bright lipstick
Make Up, L'Oreal, Basic, Tanvii.com, #LorealBeauty, #CollectiveBias

LOOK ONE - Now this is something I would call my everyday look. Lipsticks might vary depending on what I am wearing, but over all I just like a plash of mascara and liner to look clean and put together, without adding cakes of make up on face.

Make Up, L'Oreal, Basic, Tanvii.com, #LorealBeauty, #CollectiveBias

LOOK TWO - Meeting my friends for lunch or going for a movie date, or on a shopping spree, or a for a day networking event, I would add a little but of drama with the heavy-winged liner and a good to go.

Make Up, L'Oreal, Basic, Tanvii.com, #LorealBeauty, #CollectiveBias

LOOK THREE - This is my bold and bohemian look. I would sport this heavy-kohled look for a friends birthday party, night out dancing or on any occasion where I want to look a little bit dramatic.

As you can see my make-up tricks are that of an amateur, but they work for me. I never take more than 10 minutes to get my make up done from a day look to right into night look. I hope girls out there who are like me, would find this helpful. Just remember, less is more!

THE TWO EYE PRODUCTS I USED TO CREATE THESE LOOKS
1) Extra-Intense Liquid Pencil Eyeliner - Defines Eyes - L'Oreal Paris
2) Voluminous Volume Building Mascara - Bold Volume - L'Oreal Paris

You can find both the L'Oreal products and more at your local Safeway Store in the beauty care aisle.

Saree With A Twist

You know, I don't like messing around with my Saree. I like them the way they have always been worn. So far, I haven't experimented in drapes other than the traditional ones. However, when I saw this video (scroll down to the bottom) I was compelled to give it a shot, and I have to say I love it. I draped it a tad bit differently from the way it was shown in the video, but the basic concept of it remained the same. Do let me know if you happen to give it a shot too.

Let me introduce you to my new best friend favorite product. I have been going on ... and on ... and on about it for weeks now. I cannot get enough of the Jergen's Wet Skin Moisturizer. It has cut my morning routine in half. Applying body lotion and then massaging neck-to-toe till it is completely absorbed takes like FOREVER! And let's get real - who has time for that? So earlier this month, I bought Jergen's Wet Skin Moisturizer and just after one use I was BLOWN AWAY. I kid you not. I was amazed how fast I was able to get ready and be out the door. The next day I urged by husband to give it a shot, and as always he was a little reluctant but once we gave a shot he was hooked too. Although he is too polite so he did return the bottle back to me, and then he missed it the next day and I went ahead and got one just for himself.

It has been over three weeks since we have been using Jergen's Wet Skin Moisturizer and we cannot imagine going back to the old body lotion routine. The cheery on the top is how easy the application process is:
  1. Take a shower (super important for hygienic living)
  2. Get out and apply the moisturizer while the skin is wet
  3. Massage it gently
  4. Pat dry as normal
  5. Voila! You are done!

If you feel I am selling you the Jergen's Wet Skin Moisturizer a bit too hard, trust me it is for your own good. You will try it and realize that your skin right after shower is at its optimum point to be moisturized. It soaks right into the skin, leaving you smooth and soft throughout the day, and cuts down your morning routine. It is a complete win-win!

How to Organize Blog Content

Cloud Storage, Amazon Prime, Tanvii.com, Organize Blog Content

When one decides to start a blog they never think of the million things that they will have to do, you know besides writing the post. We are often motivated by creativity and ideas, but forget all about the operational side. However, the more you blog, the more you will need a simple, yet effective way to keep track your previous blog content and plan for your future blog content.

Over time I have created a system which works for me, in the categories I blog in. This would vary from blogger-to-blogger if you blog about more than three things. Majority of my posts are on Fashion, Travel and Fitness with the sub-categories of Decor, Beauty and Personal Stories.

Here's my three step plan:

  1. Create a blog schedule: This helps you keep track of all the ideas you have for the posts. Also, helps you sync your 'real' life with the blog life, how much time you require to shoot, edit, write, etc. I know we are all creative types and do not consider 'scheduling' stuff part of the job, however it is. You get to be creative because you have everything else under control. Else the brain space is occupied by clutter. e.g. My 2015 blog schedule is Mondays: Outfit Post; Wednesday: YouTube; Friday: Misc. (Three Ways, Decor, Fitness etc.)
  2. Create an editorial calendar: Now you have a schedule, hence you have an outline of what you want to achieve each week. Next step would to to break it down by the week and jot down your specific post ideas in to the calendar. I personally, love Google calendars. They help keep my personal, professional and blog life in order. Having ideas organized in advance would skyrocket your blog productivity.
  3. Organize your pictures in folder: Now that you already know what post you will be working on in the following weeks, you can take pictures and edit them and organize them in folders in advance. I personally like to give the same name to the folders as the title of the posts. Talking of pictures, they are often the most important part of the post and require special attention. However, the downside is that after years and years of blogging you have 50,000 pictures and none of which you can delete as they are all part of your blog archives. Here's where Amazon Cloud Drive comes in. It allows me to back-up all my pictures (and videos), I categorize, first by the year and then by the title of the post. Photos and files can be shared via private links from within the Amazon Photo app or by selecting a folder or file to be shared using the web interface on your computer. It allows me an easy access from my MacBook, iPad and iPhone making it an ideal cloud storage option.
I hope you found my tips helpful. I truly believe the key to letting your creativity flow is to have a rough plan, and then throw it out of the window. I kid. May be. But having the logistics in order is a good way to make sure you are able to plan and find files and content when you need it.

P.S. If you are an Amazon Prime member, you already have access to Prime Photos, provided through Amazon Cloud Drive as part of your membership. If you are not a Prime member, you will need to log-in to Amazon Cloud Drive and select a trial of the Unlimited Photos storage plan, using your Amazon log in. Prime members get 5 GB of additional storage space for videos, movies, music, and files.

I am a colorful person

Bright Colors, Outfit Posts, Spring, Summer 2015, Tanvii.com
1 / 2 / 3
Last year I wrote a post on "How To Wear Bright Colors" but going through the archives from 2015, (44 outfits so far!) I realized, it is one thing to wear bright colors, but quite another to wear all the colors together :P For instance, these are the three recent outfit posts which have been rather colorful. And it might not be everyone's cup of tea but I love them.

As people go through moods, I go through phases of color and phases of monochrome. Colors do not require effort for me. I seamlessly gravitate towards them. Even on the days when I want to keep me look simple, I end up with a minimum of two colors. I refuse to apologize for that though. It might be cultural. Or personal. But just because America is wary of colors, doesn't mean I have to.

But now that fall is here, I am already gravitating towards the fall color palette (maroon, burgundy, grays, black, white are calling me out), but before I bid goodbye to these pieces until 2016, I thought I will give them another chance to shine.

Why are people not courteous?

We are back with #GwT and Dr. Fab is making a presence again. Today we are talking about our thoughts on courtesy, and how it we find it lacking around us. Sometimes we make excuses for your behavior while other times people press your buttons, but nonetheless in the end we are on a quest to be better people. We also share some anecdotes from our travels. Hope you enjoy our short chat. :)

Every Rug Needs A Rug Pad

via
Being an adult makes you aware of so many things which were not even on your radar growing up. Eco-friendly, sustainability, organic is not what you are looking for when you are on a tight budget. However, being a home-owner and a thirty-plus woman, I have all-kinds of requirements from each product that enters my household, whether it is the cleaning supplies or home decor.

Rugs a have being my object of lust in terms home decor. Some people like their furniture, others their lamps, I like rugs. I personally, believe they make or break the decor of any room. However, what most people do not focus on when they think of rugs, are the rug pads.

Rug Pads: WHAT?

Buying natural fibers for your household can ensure that your fabrics are recyclable and can eventually go back to the earth. When purchasing rugs for your home, look into natural fiber rugs such as; wool, seagrass, jute, and sisal. If you want a colorful rug, make sure the dyes used are all natural and non-toxic. These products are typically biodegradable and will reduce waste.

Rug Pads: WHY?

Every rug needs a rug pad and here are five reasons why:

1) Safety - No matter where the rug is placed (on carpet or hardwood or etc), a pad keeps the rug in place to prevent slips and pulls

2) Longevity - A pad extends the life of your rug by preventing the fibers from being crushed. The pad acts as a type of buffer between the hard surface below and the rug above.

3) Protection - A pad prevents dye transfer, marring, staining, and scratching to the floor or carpeting beneath.

4) Comfort - A pad adds cushiony softness underfoot.

5) Cleanliness - A pad allows for easier vacuuming.

Rug Pads: Verdict

I have been using the following rug pads for past couple of months and they have stood 100% on their claims. I have not had a single issue. They are light, easy to maneuver, and extremely durable.

A) Ultra Premium

• It allows for the transfer of heat from the floor to the room
• It does not contain sticky adhesive, glue or any additives that can stick to the floor
• It contains real rubber that is Heat Pressed to the felt, not glued

B) Superior

• It allows for the transfer of heat from the floor to the room
• It does not contain sticky adhesive, glue or any additives that can stick to the floor
• It is NOT meant for use under smaller rugs that tend to slip

What I truly appreciate about the Rug Pad Corner was that they go above and beyond to make sure that every product they sell is 100% natural. They use their patented Heat Press technology to avoid any need for harmful adhesives. By staying completely natural with their products, they ensure that everything they sell is environmentally sustainable and completely safe my your home. Making me feel more confident about my purchase and helping me reduce my carbon foot print.

Fall Is Coming

How is it going, guys? Hope everyone had a good weekend. I had a wonderful, productive and one-of-those perfect weekends. I am also starting to be more receptive towards fall. I changed my hair color, I bought a wool hat, and below I am wearing a fall-color inspired outfit. Two more days, and fall will be here, and I will embrace it with open arms. World order has been restored. :)

P.S. I have been making vlogs (random rants) on my YouTube channel. They have not been posted on the blog yet, but if you are interested in checking them out you can click here

Three Ways To Style A Striped Button Down

Striped Button Down, Shirt, Black, Tanvii.com

I love a good button down. It is easy to style, comfortable and versatile. Hence, a perfect purchase for all seasons. This particular one is a custom made shirt, which I absolutely love. It is just a fun touch to a basic black shirt. As you can see I have styled it with my floral jeans, woolen skirt, and recently with a ankle length jacket. I cannot wait to style is again this fall/winter may be with black denims? Or a leather skirt (which I don't own yet!). Nonetheless, it will (and has gotten) some good use in my closet. Morning Skin Care Routine

This is one of the most request video. I am sharing my morning beauty routine in the YouTube video below, which works for my skin type and needs.

However, below are also some tips, which I believe can apply to everyone, no matter what you skin type.

1) Pick good products
2) Cleanse twice a day. Giving your skin a break from the cycle of products is healthy from time to time.
3) Use lukewarm water
4) Exfoliate two to three times a week
5) Pat dry, don't rub
6) Use a toner to balance your skin's ph levels
7) Apply serum completely
8) Follow up with moisturizer
9) Don't (ever) forget SPF

Before Fall Arrives

I just landed back from a fantastic vacation in Europe #TanviOnTheGo. One could already feel the traces of fall there with chill in the breeze but I am glad I still have a few more weeks of layer-less life remaining on this continent.

Will share more about the the vacation in the coming weeks. For now have to get back to the American way of life, i.e. reply to never-ending chain of emails, and get ticking that long to-do-list.

Three Ways To Style A White Linen Dress

Three Ways To Style A White Linen Dress, Tanvii.com

So apparently, you are not supposed to wear white after Labor Day, and clearly I am not about to do anything you are "supposed to do or not do" :)

This is a custom stitched dress because I could never find one which was the right length and with lining. (I wonder why retailers don't put lining on a white dress?!?! Right?). As seen above I have styled this dress with blue, orange and lime green so far. Which color would you style it with?
