Beauty Talk: New Products

one / two / three / four / five / six / seven

Disclaimer: Please read my previous post on my skin type to make an informed opinion/decision. Also, these products might or might not be available in India and/or outside United States.

I have been using an eye cream since 2007, however recently I decided to take my skin care regime a notch up. Giving special care to my eyes and over all skin tone. When Vine Vera contacted me, I did my research on the company and found their products to have high grade ingredients and rave reviews. I opted to try their high-potency eye creme. In spite of its price tag, I am happy to inform that it works like magic. And since you require only a pea sized amount daily, it will last you for a long time. It provides the hydration and contouring the eye area requires. It will surely leave your eye area feeling youthful and firm. I would highly recommend this product.

I love 'Simple' products as they are gentle on my skin. This is one of my favorite products I have purchased from their line. It is rich, creamy, and gentle with no smell. I love it as it cleans impurities as well as make residue. I alternate this between the other cleanser I use. It provides a good balance.

three
Lavender & Eucalyptus Foot Creme*

In my early teens I was excellent about taking care of my body head-to-toe, however with time I had gotten lazy. Lately, I have been trying to get my act together. This is where a foot creme enters my daily morning routine. I have been applying this lavender and eucalyptus foot creme daily and can already see a difference in the appearance of my feet. Let's just say they are summer ready!

four:
Eucalyptus Foaming Foot Scrub/Pumice*

This is another piece of the puzzle.
Natural granulated pumice thoroughly exfoliates the rough skin on the feet, leaving them velvety soft. Using the foot scrub twice a week followed by the foot cream has been a great combination

five: Shiseido Benefique Mineral Gommage
I purchased this scrub from a stand alone local Shiseido store. I haven't been able to find it at any major retailer. However, it is available here. I love this scrub as it is gentle, and you can literally see your dead skin come off as you massage it into your skin. Your face feels softer and even textured with each use.

six: Vine Vera Resveratrol Zinfandel Illuminating Mask*

After the eye creme this is my next favorite product from the Vine Vera line. We already have heard the health benefits of resveratrol in out diet, now it has been introduced into your skin care. It helps reduce age spots, sun damage, discoloration. All the issues I have with my skin. After using the above scrub, I follow it up with this rich and creamy face mask. I leave it for 15 minutes and voila! I have skin as soft as baby's bottom. I am not exaggerating. It feels so good, I only wish I had time to repeat this routine daily.

sevenLiving Proof Humidity Shield

I am in love with Living Proof Frizz product line. When a product delivers, you cannot help with rave about it. However, the humidity shield is my favorite. It protects your hair in the horrid (D.C.) humidity without making it limp and lack-lustre. I couldn't recommend it enough. You would have to try it to believe it.

* These products were provided to me at no cost. All opinions mentioned are my own.

What I Wore To Walmart

In the past I have tried to take outfit pictures at different times which represent my real life. And not look like I just stepped out of a magazine's editorial page. However, I was going through all the outfit posts from 2015 and realized there hasn't been any "grocery-run look" this year. Y'know something like "What I Wore" to Walmart. Hence, this post!

Husband: Why are we taking pictures of this outfit?
Me: Because this is what I am wearing today.
Husband: It isn't anything special.
Me: I know. That is exactly why!
Husband (in his mind): *Whatever! Let's just get done with it!*

Seven Ways To Revive Home Decor

Easy Tips, Spruce Up Your Home Decor, Tanvii.com

My idea of home decor is simple, elegant and harmonious. I don't like jarring objects or clashing colors. I always want to feel like I am in a sanctuary when I am at home. I had recently shared few easy spring living tips focusing on the living room area. Today's post is about making small subtle changes around your home to revive it, without any heavy expenditure.

  1. Bring in Flowers - Bring your living space alive with a bouquet of vibrant flowers set in an equally vibrant vase.
  2. Decorate with Books - Add character and life to your living room with books. It tells a story of who you are.
  3. Embrace Colors - Give emphasis to a neutral room by adding a few smart hits of color.
  4. Put Pattern on the Floor - Add visual interest to a room with a patterned rug.
  5. Shop with Style yet function in Mind - Choose light fixtures that are lovely to look at, both on or off.
  6. Maximize Minimalism - Give a room a clean look with a sofa that has long, lean lines and minimal cushioning.
  7. Keep the background neutral - Provide an air of serenity with a soft, soothing palette.

What are some of your tips? Do share!

Gabbing With Tanvi (YouTube) - Episode Five

#GwT is starting to become an adventure for myself and Dr. Fab. We have no idea what we will be talking about, when we switch on the camera and then eventually we find our way through and have a few minutes worth of gab for ya'guys! I can't say if it is entertaining for y'all to listen, but it sure is fun to dive into it and see what we end up talking each week.

In this fifth episode of Gabbing with Tanvi, I am sharing how I feel about being an immigrant (or not!) in the United States. Last I had ever spoken about it on the blog, was way back in 2010I feel the need to put a disclaimer that the views mentioned in the video are of mine alone, and do not in any way represent the whole Indian community (residing anywhere in the world).

Again, thank you for your encouraging words, and continued support to my YouTube channel. I cannot believe it has been 8 weeks already!

How To Protect Your Hair/Skin From Sun

Protection From Sun, SPF, Sunscreen, Sunglasses, Floppy Hat, Shrug, Scarf, Tanvii.com

We are in full blown summer and while it is great to soak in the sunlight while we can, (because we all know winters are long and hard) it is also important to protect ourselves from the harmful sun rays. Below are five ways ways to make sure you are always shielded while still getting a healthy dose of Vit. D -

Floppy Hat - Help protect hair face from the harsh sun-rays

Knit Shrug - Project your arms from getting sun burns and unwanted tan lines

Sunglasses - Besides protecting your eyes from the strong sun-rays, squinting in the sun is one of the main reasons for wrinkles around the eyes.

Light Scarf - Pair a light scarf with your tank and tees to add style and protection at the same time

Sunscreen - Last but not the least, none of the above would matter, if you didn't apply the sunscreen in the first place!

Passive Aggressive

I have realized, that over the years (unintentionally) I have tried hard to not behave in a passive aggressive manner. I have made categorial changes in my personality to address issues head on instead of beating around the bush or give the silent treatment. The only instance I choose to be quiet is when I know I am talking to a fool, or when I know silence is a better remedy than words (temporarily). At all other times, I choose to talk about whatever is on my mind. Hell, I am open with even you guys (readers!).

Passive aggressive behavior, I believe is integral part of any Indian (or desi) household. That is how we have seen our family members interact with each other. When things are great, we feast and dance and watch movies. When things are not-that-great we ignore, avoid and give-the-silent-treatment to each other. No one ever talk about the elephant in the room, and if anyone does, then everyone makes that one person to the villain, because he/she broke the sacred vow of passive-aggression. Having been away from home for over a decade (15 years!), I realize I am out of practice (and patience) of dealing with this hostility. When you have a bizillion things to accomplish, it feels quite a nuisance, if you ask me!

Moving to the outfit, this is what I wore to the Blogger Scene party last week. This is not the first time I wore a Saree to a blogging event though. Remember this, from Austin in 2012?

Three Ways To Style A Floral Blouse

Three Ways To Style A Floral Blouse, Tanvii.com
1 / 2 / 3

This is one of those tops that I decide to add to the spring-cleaning pile every year and yet it never quite makes it out of my closet. Over the years it has gotten to that worn-out feeling that I simply love, especially during those hot and humid days. So, while I am thinking this would be its last summer with me, let's see if it makes it to 2016 or not. Haha!

What

Skinny Teatox is a two step-program.

Morning Tea: This is meant to be enjoyed in the morning. It's a stimulant and gives you a steady and constant supply of energy throughout the day. It also increases your metabolism and aids with appetite suppression.

Evening Tea: This tea cleanses and detoxifies your body. It's a colon cleanse that flushes out your digestive tract of toxins and unwanted excess which could be making it more difficult for you to lose weight.

How

I started the skinny teatox program on June 1st. Getting started was pretty easy! The pack came with a super cute strawberry shaped tea infuser, and everything else was very straightforward and self-explanatory. As instructed, during the teatox, its important you follow a healthy and clean diet to maximise the detoxification process, cutting out the likes of coffee, alcohol, refined sugar, excessive salt, dairy, fatty animal products – consuming loads of vegetables, grains, beans, fruit, water, green tea, and more.

That wasn’t really a hard part for me, as I am a vegetarian and eat healthy over all and this year I have reduced my Frappuccino intake as well.

Result

I noticed a difference in the first week itself. I was much less bloated, I had more energy, and felt a whole lot better. By the second week, I could notice a difference on my waistline, and continuing high levels of energy. Towards the end of the teatox the results leveled out, however I was still less bloated then normal, and in general I felt a lot lighter and brighter overall.

I would like to mention, that this is not a quick fix to make you loose. My intention was to kickstart my summer and reduce the unwanted bloating, rather than loosing a lot of weight. As already mentioned, its also important to keep up a clean and healthy eating routine. I try and get in four to five days of workout with minimum of 20 minutes of resistance training and 30-40 minutes of cardio.

I would definitely recommend this teatox if you’re looking for a healthy way to jump start your summer cleanse, or to consume on a day-to-day basis alongside an otherwise clean and healthy diet, to feel lighter and energetic.

Gabbing With Tanvi (YouTube) - Episode Four

Weeks are flying by! How do I know that? Because it is Wednesday again! Didn't I just post a video? I am baffled by how much time it takes to shoot and edit videos and by the time I am done with one, it is already time to record the next. I cannot even imagine how people post two to three videos each weeks. It would require me to be on my bum 24/7.

Anyhoo, today we are back with the fourth episode of #GwT aka "Gabbing With Tanvi"... and we are talking about Marriage. Now mind you, we are not your off the mill "awww, so cute! gooey-starry-eyed-couple". I would describe us as an entertaining-edgy-with-a-pinch-of-salt-couple. So our views on things are rather unconventional. We have the most bizarre-random-conversations and then we forget that we had even ever spoken about such a thing.

I actually don't think I am qualified to have views on marriage, simply because I do not feel married. Whenever someone mentions the word "marriage" it automatically registers as something other people do. For me, we are purely in a live-in relationship with a legal certificate giving us access to each other's assets. :D

I Believe in Snail Mail

Hallmark Cards at Walmart, Tanvii.com

I am not empty words. I rant about the impersonal wishes on Facebook, because I do things differently myself. If you know me IRL (in real life) then I am certain that you would have received a letter, card, postcard or some form of snail mail from me, sometimes for absolutely no reason. Ever since I was a kid, I have sent out cards to my cousins and family on their birthdays and anniversary no matter how far away they lived. I am proud to say that I have continued that habit way into my thirties too. The only catch is, that now I mail cards to those who try and keep in touch with me on regular basis. I call that time and energy management. Anyhoo, since I love hand-written-everything, I also love sending cards with a personal note and lots of love.

Hallmark Cards at Walmart, Tanvii.com

The organized (and OCD) person that I am, I have a little notebook with all the anniversaries and birthday listed by the month ('coz a girl needs a little help remembering dates every once in a while). Beginning of every year, I stock up on greeting cards for the whole year. Also, as one grows older, people in your life double and you need to starting budgeting for everything.

Once I have the cards for the whole year, I organize them in my greeting card organizer (yes! I have THAT too) which helps me organize them by the month. Then in the first week of every month I write the cards for the coming weeks and put them in post. Voila! mission accomplished.

It always brings a smile on my face when I receive cards in mail, and I can only hope that it must bring a smile to my friends and family too. Wouldn't you like to go back to old school ways to sending wishes and spreading love?

Can We Talk About Feminism?

Up until 2012 I wouldn't have called myself a feminist. My reason was that I didn't want to put myself in a box or give myself a label. I advocated equality of the sexes. And feminism sounded pretty one sided. Then a sequences of events and shows and speeches changed my mind.

It started with Satyamev Jayate, which made me realize my privileged position in Indian society. I personally hadn't suffered in the hands of gender discrimination. I was lucky enough to have parents who loved me as much as they loved my brother, they didn't discriminate against my education or upbringing. I had equal opportunities in school, college and in my consequent jobs. In my later years I probably have had a brush-off incident but nothing blatant to mention of. However, listening to women on Satyamev Jayate, followed by the brutal Delhi Rape Case, I realized HOW different things are for women in my country. The show shook me to my core. There onwards something changed within me.

Somewhere down the line, I read the best description of the word (feminism) "if we can use the word 'man-kind' for human race, then why can't we use the word 'feminism' for gender equality?" This made total sense to me. I embraced my inner feminist that very second. Soon after Emma Watson's speech, & Kalki's Women's Day performance made my own thoughts and my stand on the issue clearer to myself. I understood that I might not have chosen to give myself that 'label', but I had always been a feminist. I also understood that I do not have to hate men, to be a feminist. I just need to speak-up on behalf of whoever needs justice, when they can't themselves. It is unfortunate that majority of the time that injustice is towards women, but it is not to say that men have equal rights, everywhere, all the time.

Today, I don't shy away from calling myself a feminist. I believe in gender-equality. I aspire to treat every single human being with same respect and courtesy, without a gender prejudice.

Easy Ways to Refresh Your Living Room

On popular demand I am introducing "Decor" to my varied blog topics. This spring/summer I have tried to update my living room with infusion of colors and textures while maintain the minimalist theme.

Some quick and easy ways to spruce up your living room:

1) Add blooms - Perk up the living room with a bouquet of vibrant flowers placed in an equally vibrant vase.

2) Add throws - Along with color, texture is a great way to add a spring swing to your living room. Soft, luscious and yet cozy throws with interesting textures are my favorite at the moment.

3) Add Throw Pillows - To make your living room summer ready, consider patterned pillows in soft summer accent colors. They make the room warm and inviting.

4) Organize - One of the easiest ways to make a room feel refreshed and revitalized is by removing clunky pieces like coasters and remote controls in a decorative box.

5) Give a seasonal cleaning - Last but not the least, post (harsh) winters, surfaces around the house tend to get covered in grime. Revive your coffee-table, as well as granite kitchen counter tops, stainless steel refrigerator doors,  with Pledge Multi Surface. What I like the most about this is that is doesn't strip the finish of the wood, or the natural shine or granite as Pledge is pH- balanced. This will ensure a streak-free shine and fill your living room with summer vibe.
