Tangerine in small doses

This had started to become a pattern -> I sit down to write a post but nothing comes to mind and then I decide, "I'll come back to it when its time to post!" and then again when its time to write, I have nothing to say. I finally figured out the root of this problem. I write my thoughts when I have no one to share them with in real life. Having Mom around means I get to be a 24/7 chatterbox saying anything and everything that comes to my mind, regardless of whether she wants to hear it or not [she is a parent, she has no choice!]. So I guess, since I am sharing my meaningful thoughts with her, all that's left for the blog is vanity [I kid! but its kinda true too].

P.S. Fellow InFB Members, if you think Tangerine is not a color for you, using it in make up and/or accessories is also a way to go for the upcoming InFB Remix. Just a thought!

How to accessorize with jewelry?

Left to Right: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6

Accessorizing an outfit is not as intimidating as it might seem. All it takes is practice and a little planning. If you are not sure then start with one body part at a time - earrings or necklace and bangles or rings.

However, if you feel completely lost, then this might help you get started as today I am sharing some of the basics I try and follow while accessorizing an outfit:

1. What color is your outfit? If,

  • Neutral - add dash of color
  • Monochromatic - use metallics
  • All Black or All White - could mix and match colors and patterns
  • Colorful - go for neutrals

2. What style are you sporting today? If,

  • Professional - depends on your work place but statement pieces work well.
  • Girly - could mix colors, play with patterns, use scarfs, headbands, etc.
  • Night out - bling & statement pieces
  • Bohemian - an opportunity to wear everything exotic & eclectic

3. What is the neckline of your top/dress?

This would help you determine what you wear on your neck. If you are ...
  • wearing a v-neck blouse or top then a pendant would look great with the look.
  • wearing a round neck then a statement collar necklace or a long beaded string would look good too
  • willing to experiment and/or have already mastered the art of basic accessorizing then you can have a go at stacking different lengths of pendant and necklaces to make a statement

When it comes to bangles/bracelets and rings, I match them either to the necklace I am wearing or to the colors of the outfit. Sometime it can also be fun to mix-random-colors and patterns and stack them up. You can also read, an article I found interesting on 6 rules of accessorizing. I hope I have encouraged convinced you to give accessorizing a shot. Haven't I? ;)

On Popular Demand

Shots with Mom, taken in last few weeks via Dr. Fabulous (of course!)

A lot of you have asked me to feature Mom frequently on the blog. I would love to, but she lives toooooooooo far away. But I do feature her whenever we are on common ground (literally!) and if I am not mistaken she has been featured on the blog the most -> starting with her healthy eating habits, fabulous foot wear, travel shots from scoltland, marriage anecdotes, etc. etc. There is more of her coming up on on the blog soon, though ... Promise! In the meantime I have got her started on Twitter @irarkr. It is so much fun teaching your parents new things. The tables have turned 180 degrees.

In other news: I'm part of the world record attempt for the World's Longest Social Scarf at Wrapped in Merino. The event is officially launching today on 29th May 2012. The idea is to come up with a virtual wool scarf which each participant adds to their own picture. The participants get to design their scarf style, pattern, and color. People from all over the world will be joining in. Wouldn't you join too? You would also have a chance at winning Net-a-Porter vouchers every week!

Lust : Yellow & White

1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7

The shopping ban is about to come to an end in about 2 weeks (on 15th June to be exact) and the white blazer is probably the first 'lust' purchase I will be making. I have already ticked-off the beach destination from my summer holiday list for this year but that is not stopping me for dreaming for more ... this outfit would probably my the one I'd pick for an evening by the beach, with a yummy cocktail in my hand while the cool breeze caresses my tresses and not a care in the world. Ah! the good life! Oh and we all need a phone cover that matches outfit, don't we? ;)

Long Weekend Bliss

Something I have realized is that I do not require much to be happy. Good company, good weather, good food, a camera & lots of conversations -> I am a happy bunny ... And that's exactly what this weekend was is all about. Will share more soon but for now this is a quick post with some awesome shots my Mom took of Dr. Fab and me. It is so rare that we have someone to take our silly fun poses. Now that she is here, we are making most of this opportunity.

P.S. Must add her name to my Photographer's list. She most definitely qualifies ;)

The look on my face below, hence the title!

Friday Fitness: With Fashion & Five Commandments

Today I will share my 5 Gym/Workout Commandments, which in my experience a lot of people ignore but are important in order to get an effective workout. The basic idea is to make the workout as efficient and comfortable as possible. Small twitches in habits and wardrobe options can make a huge difference. Starting with:
  1. Make Up - I don't get women who apply cakes and pancakes of makeup before their workout. Seriously, besides the fact that you look absolutely ridiculous it is also not doing any good to your skin, as it would clog your pores as you start working up the sweat. Apply your moisturizer and sunscreen and you are ready to go.
  2. Hair - Tie your hair back in a pony tail, plait or a bun, with hair away from your face (specially eyes). Having your hair all over your face is unattractive and probably the dumbest thing one can do while working out.
  3. Deodorant - I do not think I need to explain this any further, but just in case you are one of those people let me spell it out - You will stink! Use deodorant generously before and after your workout. People around you will Thank me and you!
  4. Clothes - Workout gear need to fit your body, not only to avoid accidents (getting stuck in machines, stumbling, etc) but also allow you to get an effective workout. Over sized tee shirts and track pants which look more like pajamas are a BIG NO!
  5. Undergarments - I am talking about sports bras for women and cotton underwear for men. You don't want your girls to be bouncing around too while you bounce, now do you? Cotton is the most absorbent material, hence ideal for all sweating condition.
I will definitely follow up with a post gym/workout gear in the coming weeks.

I don't understand ...

... why some people
  • discuss their bowel movements in public?
  • give opinion on matters they know absolutely nothing about?
  • believe in bringing others down, instead of pulling themselves up?
  • let success get to their heads?
  • cannot reply a smile, with a smile!?
  • cannot behave with a little class and dignity?
  • are incapable of managing their personal finance?
  • resort to whining at ALL times?
  • continue to eat like a pig and then complain about their poor health?
  • don't treat others the way they wish to be treated?

Previously, have worn this dress as a top, two months back

Reader's Spotlight (XIII) - Stacey

Hi Tanvi!

This weekend, I thought I would snap these before heading out to meet a friend. I had to take them myself as hubby is away. I placed my camera on a stack of books and placed the stack strategically around the room in order to take the pics :-). I don't have a tripod. I thought of how much your outfits are always colourful and thought you might like this green capri/pants. I also paired them with the Steve Madden leopard wedges, which I know you like. Let me know what you think about this outfit.

Stacey, you had me at the green pants! The color is delicious and pairing it with white was something I would not have thought of. I also like the finishing touches of the leopard print wedges. I didn't miss those white & brown chunky bangles on your left wrist either. Nicely done. P.S. I also love your home. It looks amazing. When am I invited? ;) Kidding.

For those who are new here: This is a segment where my readers get to share their style or ask of suggestions (if they need any!) from all my readers. So if you have been inspired by my blog then Email me your outfit pictures for this feature. If anyone wishes to stay Anonymous just say the word. post this feature every alternate Friday
