Reader's Spotlight (IX) - Diksha

Hey Tanvi,

I thought of sending you a picture of myself from my best friend's wedding. Your blog is currently going through the "Indianized Phase" so thought of sharing the picture with you. And like you say, "If Indian women won't wear Saree, then who would?"

Thank you for sending me the picture Diksha. You look LOVELY in the Saree. I cannot take my eyes off your earrings. They are so pretty and unique. And you know what? I think I will take on the title and happily become the Brand Ambassador for "Saree" on Indian Fashion Blogs! What say? What do you all think of Diksha's saree? And I should also mention, that she is the face behind the brand Kunst and makes the clutches I had featured earlier this month. She is one talented/artistic lady.

Thank everyone who has sent their pictures for the Reader's Spotlight. I will continue to post them on Friday in the order that I have received the email. If you are new here: this is a segment where my readers get to share their style or ask of suggestions (if they need any!) from all my readers. So if you have been inspired by my blog then Email me your outfit pictures for this feature. If anyone wishes to stay Anonymous just say the word!

Inspiration : Bohemia

I rarely do inspirational images, but I am truly drawn to the Bohemia lately. I crave the Egyptian Desserts, the Moroccan alleys, Souq in Beirut or even the sands of Jaisalmer. Heavily kohl'd eyes to match the luscious long-locks with flowing fabrics, silver ornaments, and bright-hot-colors. Who is with me?

Wings to Fly

Lately I have been inspired by passion. Specially when people have passion for their work and they follow their dreams, and in turn create magic. Due to blogging I have been approached by many companies and artists and designers to show case their work. Seldom I do, but often I refuse 'coz I do not connect with their art or company. Email from Karishma of Kish & Evie was a pleasant change from the usual. She was sweet, kind, personal and professional, all the qualities that I hold in high regard. She introduced me to her company; In her own words,
"Each of the scarves/shawls has a story. I guess they're about where you're at in life and what you might be going through. The only thing I'd really want from any wearer, lover, stylist etc. - would be to know the meaning + feel the story behind what they're wearing. Sometimes I can see a little part of me in each of them :)
Wings to Fly You're a dreamer, an inspirer, you've probably read "The Secret" and you know you can be anything you want to be. [Tanvi, you're a bit like this :)] "
- Karishma of Kish & Evie
And thats all it took to convince me that I needed this scarf in my life. I received it wrapped in a beautiful box which itself is a collectable. And when I wore it I felt precious, as Kish & Evie said I would! If you don't believe me, check the pictures below! :)

Fashion Review: The Hunger Games

Worry not! This is not a movie review. No secrets are being revealed.

Without giving away much about the movie and letting it be enjoyable for everyone who will be watching it, I just want to share my "fashionable" observations from the movie. To say the least, I am absolutely smitten and amazed by the styling of the characters in the movie. This must have been a picnic for ll the stylists, as definitely one doesn't not get a chance to experiment so much in usual commercial cinema. And after much google-ing for the last few hours, since I returned from the movies, I have learnt that their design of fashion had been making waves for a while and I am only catching up to it now. Forgive me, I am not a Hunger-Games-Groupie!
The pupil of this fictional land could give the Gagas, and Katys and Nickis a run for their money, as far as eccentric costumes were concerned. On second thoughts they would probably feel completely at home among them, or may be not as they wouldn't stand out (thats the aim of crazy-dressing, right?)

One person who would stand out in the movie, in terms of styling is Elizabeth Banks. She actually looks like a character out of one of Tim Burton's movie. Think Johnny Depp in Alice in Wonderland meets Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, but in a gown. Quite stylish and she carries it really well!

The men in the movie were extremely fashion forward.

- Look at the intricate beard deisgn, I wonder if there is a stencil he used, else I can't even begin to imagine the time it would take them to maintain it everyday.
- If any man can carry off an eyeliner and yet look that damn sexy then it has to be Lenny. His screen time is limited but you do not take your eyes off him, or at least I didn't ;)
- Blue hair. Cute pony tail. Personality of Stanley Tucci. AWESOME. Enough said!

Jennifer (girl crush! *sigh!*) aka Katniss and the people from her district are the only ones who dressed like normal people, i.e. like us, i.e. like boring! When sharing screen time with Elizabeth Banks, she looked like, how-I-feel-like while watching MTv Awards -> Out of place! Although she looks absolutely drop-dead-gorgeous in that red dress with stick-on-crystals on her left shoulder.

This has nothing to do with the movie,
except that now I am obsessed with all things arrows.
The 'hunt' is ON!

So have you seen the movie? What did you think? Let me know, if you like! :)

Thank you for reading & Have a good weekend, y'll!

Reader's Spotlight (VIII) - Vanshika

Hi Tanvi,

I am a huge huge fan of yours and I follow you regularly. I am a Bachelors in Technology student and I love trying something new. Your posts are a great help in experimenting and carrying different styles! In these pictures, I was inspired by you to wear my long skirt as an off-shoulder dress and accessorized it with my black belt. The dress was a huge hit ;). Thank You for the inspiration!

Thank you Vanshika, for being my loyal reader. I am happy to hear that you love experimenting and try new things. I am glad that your look was a great hit! Do you all experiment with your looks? Would you wear your skirt as a dress?

Purple & Orange

I do not know if it happens with anyone else but whenever I am watching a movie or television series (of non-Indian origin) and the credits rolls-in my eyes automatically catch the names of Indian origin. Even if the credit are rolling in at an lightening speed (#truth!) ... and then exclaim, rather loudly, in delight to whoever is sitting next to me, "Did you notice that XYZ was of Indian origin?". There is a sense of pride, like I am talking-in-my-head-Go-Indians-Go! Never mind even if they are 10th Generation-American-born-Indians, or Kenyan Indian, or British Indians who have never even visited India. As long as they have an Indian name, they are Indian in my head :o)

Moving on to the outfit post ... This is officially my last outfit post from TxSC. I will get out of the house this weekend and take some new pics, in spring colors! Promise. I was prepared for a rainy weekend but not for a cold-wet-shivering weekend. Thank God I got a pair of these bright-orange-skinny-jeans in the Swap from Lulu*s 'coz no way could I have survived in a skirt or a dress (even with tights!). Then I stole borrowed my husband's sweater, added the scarf as an accessory, paired it with my leather jacket and voila - I was still COLD!

P.S. I blame the ruffled-look on the darn weather.
TxSC weekend was all about making emergency changes to my perfectly-planned-spring-looks!

I ❤ Organic

... yesterday's post got quite intense even without the comments. A lot of you had questions, concerns, and as expected even disappointment but I know, more than ever, that it is the right decision for me. And I thank you all for understanding. Lets move on and make a new start of sorts!

I have attended total of three Blogging conferences so far (2 TxSC and 1 IFB) both of these avenues I have enjoyed immensely. The joy of meeting your favorite bloggers in person is unparalleled. The lessons I have learnt from all of them have been the same. While I have never attended them to 'learn' but more to interact. However, one common question all budding bloggers ask the panels is 'how to become popular' or 'how to get sponsors' or something on the same lines. These questions and this discussion in the blogging community all round the year has made me realize that I ❤ Organic. Not just the food. Everything. That's probably why I am not made for a corporate culture. I could never be on board with a 'set' strategy and game plan. Considering we all are different, the situations around us are constantly changing and everyone has their own agenda for their life so how can a set strategy work for all. Let me mention this here, that I do understand the need for it. I am not illiterate but just that it doesn't work for me.

Stories where things just happen and are passion driven motivate me more. I believe when you do everyday tasks with tenacity and fervor you create greatness. And then for someone else to come along and think that they can 're-create' that greatness with a strategy is foolishness according to me. Instead of replicating one should go ahead and create their own wonders. That's the only way to move forward, else we would all keep revolving in circles. At least thats the path I wish to choose.

This is what I wore on the day of the TxSC Conference.
