Whoever put this "It is rude to ask a woman's age" in mankind's head is the one to blame the society's fixation with "looking" young and "anti-aging" ... I know people mean it as a compliment when they say, "You don't look 30" but I take it as a mere observation. To me it actually means that I have been successful in taking care of myself in comparison to others my age (instead of abusing my skin with make-up and products). I have no issues looking 30. What I don't want is, to look 50 when I am actually 30. Sometimes I also think that it is not that I look younger than my age, it just might be that everyone around me looks older than their age. Maybe?
Regardless, I believe women should take pride in who they are ... and a part of that is taking pride in your age. [Read: My Mantra] It is after all, in your head. You decide what is cool and what isn't. Often we get stuck in these lames standards of society and forget what our real focus should be on, i.e. Good Health & Happy Life.
I am looking forward to my 30s. 20s were for making mistakes and learning, and 30s are for implementing what I have learnt. So let the games begin...!

Yup!! I agree that as the years pass by, it just shows how STRONG we have been to survive this world and its unique ways- from the hardballs it throws you to the joyrides!

I feel so glad I am growing older (and wiser in the process) agree on how 20s are, hoping 30s will turn out the way you put them. Luverly dress :)
ReplyDeleteTanvii, u look fierce in these pics.. esp the first one, stunning!
ReplyDeleteHi Tanvi, I totally agree with you- I am 34 and I show my birth year ( 1978) everywhere, even when it is an option !
ReplyDeleteIt is not because I look younger than my age ( who decides what is younger or older ?) but because I always think that I am what I am and I will be what I want to be and my age does not decide that.
I agree..age is after all only a number. But I have no idea why I've started fearing growing old lately.
ReplyDeleteI love the dress..and the neckpiece!
i sooo agree...like always great post...wat would i do without this little dose-of -tanvi every now n then???hehe...i m soon to be 25 n still unmarried, its somewhat a big thing for andhraites...
ReplyDeleteYou look gorgeous, Tanvi!
ReplyDeleteI like growing old.. am only getting better at everything as I grow old! And frankly I am so bad at guessing a person's age. There was a time when I guessed someone's age as 40 when she was 31 (oops!) and the other way around too. So I dont discuss "age" with anyone if I can help it! :P
ReplyDeletehonestly its in the head..i could still enjoy licking an ice cream at 30 and at the same time be proud of what i have achieved and laugh over my goof ups..its all a question of your confidence in yourself..lets bring sexy back this year as i hit 30 too in july :)
ReplyDeleteLovely dress...and yes agr is just a number. :) I m so looking forward to my 30s too!!
ReplyDeleteYeah, even I've always been pretty comfortable with my age.I find this obsession with 'anti- aging' annoying.
ReplyDeleteI love love love your dress:)
ReplyDeletewow! You are a stunner Tanvi!
ReplyDeleteThat dress looks great! :)
Agree with you! I've never had a problem telling people my age. I think it's more of a Western concept to be youth-obsessed - I rarely meet 'desi' women who are ashamed to tell people how old they are. People have told me all my life that I look younger than I am - and I think it's because I don't plaster my skin in make-up like a lot of girls my age do! So if looking young is a product of taking care of yourself, then so be it, but I'm not - and never will be - ashamed of my age.
ReplyDeleteTanvi I have seen this outfit post before.Don't remember where but i definitely have!
ReplyDeleteOn the subject of age. I prefer to flirt with age;-)
ReplyDeleteLove this colour of the dress, and the texture (or at least, what i can see from it!).
ReplyDeleteAnd what you said about age, hundred and ten percent true. Age is an indication of an accumulation of experiences: joys, battle scars, love, pain, and everything else in between. Success is in growing gracefully, not hiding in the folds of untruths about how old we are!
P.S: I'm gl ad you are excited for your 30s! May it be a brilliant phase in your life :) xxx
Oh gosh what a subject from the age of 15 I was unhappy with it. I didn't want to grow up. Still don't. Xxxx
ReplyDeleteWow, you look gorgeous, love this necklace!! So very Rihanna @Grammys!!
ReplyDeletePS. I hate when people say "she looks good for 40/50/60"

I agree Tanvii, I'm really uncomfortable with people lying about their age, being so self conscious about their age. I work in a field where the older you get as a woman, the less opportunities open up for you, and it's so incredibly unfair. I think you'll enjoy your 30s!

oh my gosh, this is gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteWhat a pretty dress. You shine in it.
ReplyDeleteI'm probably the oldest follower you have (54) and I can report from the front that you're right: age is meaningless. What matters is how you live. Your health and beauty depend on how you live your life: all those choices add up and, later on, become apparent.
I can't either understand what so wrong about asking a woman's age too!
ReplyDeleteLove the collar necklace Tanvi! :) You look so chic. :)

I am also super excited for my 30s. You look stunning, dear! Have a lovely day, xo
ReplyDeletewell, i think its grt when people take you for much younger....it is a testimony to a healthy life!!!
ReplyDeleteFirst of all, great look! That outfit rocks :) Second, I love how you share your thoughts about serious things like ageism. And how you usually disagree with the common view. I agree with you on the age issue, it's something to be proud of if you're 50 and alive. No matter what age you look then.
ReplyDeleteHave a lovely week! xoxo
Yes! I completely agree with you - you should never be ashamed of your age. I'm so excited to be 30 too (next year!) haha. LOVE your dress also - so chic!

I am totally fine with my age too and why not right?
ReplyDeleteI love the lines on this dress!

I'll be 24 next month! Yay! Wanna throw me a surprise b'day party?? :P
ReplyDeleteI love the dress, so when is ur b'day?
So true Tanvi! On my birthday last week, I turned 30. All I heard all day was "oh, 30? I'm sorry! Are you ok?" I was all ppssssshhh! What the hell is wrong with 30? I'm not old yet!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE this dress! You look gorgeous and just lovely no matter your age!
Love your take on the age old issue of age! Like you, even I don't have qualms with someone asking me my age!
ReplyDeleteLove the color on you! But I could take my eyes off the tattoo. Have seen in before but somehow it looks really sexy in this look of yours :)
Great look, Tanvi! Totally agree with your sentiment! I often feel uncomfortable asking a woman (or man) their age, even though I personally don't feel like it's an offensive question. xo style, she wrote
ReplyDeleteI agree and have never been ashamed of my age. I will be 30 in less than two years, and it doesn't bother me at all. I used to look older than my age when I was young (I think partially because I was always tall for my age and partially because I was more mature than most other girls my age) but now it seems that people guess me to be right around the age that I actually am, which is a-ok in my book.
ReplyDeleteLove your outfit, too. The top layer of that dress is really cool and the necklace is great!
I agree.. 30s are so different than 20s but better in so many ways. I sort of feel like I am even going through more changes and transformations now in my mid 30s.
ReplyDeleteLooking stylish as always!!!
Age is just a number, there are a lot of 30 yr old that are completely immature and a lot of 2o somethings that have their lives together and everything figured out! I don't get the obsession with youth and anti-aging everything..having said that it is important to take care of yourself and look good for yourself so you can look back at old pictures and say "damn, I had it then, I still have it now!!"
ReplyDeleteLove the cut of the dress Tanvi, you wear it well:)
This post has been written for me! I sometimes do get bothered by age. Not in a way that I want to hide it but in an odd way it makes me sad like I'm leaving something behind. But I like the points you made.
ReplyDeleteI so agree with you! I've never had an issue with my age. It's just a number and I am who am I. Why fight it? Why feel bad or ashamed by it? It's reality. It is flattering when people tell me that I look much younger but I also think, maybe that's because other people my age look older. Or maybe it's because I work in the beauty industry and all of these potions that I have been using for years have worked. Who knows. Whatever it is, I'm happy and embrace my age.
ReplyDeleteI'm turning 40 in July and am looking forward to it. If you embrace your age I think you'll age gracefully.
On another note, I am dying over this dress! And paired with the necklace it's perfection!
xoxo
I am myself not great on guessing anyone's age, so doesnt matter to me. But I have to agree about the growing older part, being more about implementation.
ReplyDeleteThat neck piece is awesome and the dress awesomer!
Yeah, I've never understood the whole age thing. I am about to turn 32, and whenever someone asks my age, they're always surprised. While I try to remember it's a compliment, their surprise often comes out as "you're that old?" Since when is 31 old? To be honest, I couldn't be happier to be over my 20's. I've never been happier - who cares about a silly number?
ReplyDeleteYou look gorgeous as always, Tanvi! But most importantly, it really comes through that you are comfortable with who you are, and nothing is more beautiful than that.
Stunning Tanvi, love that color too:) Yes, I truly believe in the statement "you are as young as you feel" - it is indeed in your head:):) We all need to embrace every age with appreciation and gratitude.
ReplyDeleteyou look glamorous...nd yess I agree, I dont think there's anything to hide or lie about age... M proud of what I am... : )
ReplyDeletehttp://shopaholicutie.blogspot.in/2012/02/ootd-little-red-riding-jeans-d.html/
Fabulous outfit and yes, I can't bear anyone saying I don't look my age, like being 45 is something to be ashamed of. Age ain't nothing but a number. x
ReplyDeleteooh your bdays coming! 30's are the best anyway ;) xx
ReplyDeleteFirst of all - what a beautiful dress, Tanvi! I'm especially allergic to words like '40 but still fit' or 'she doesn't look her age'.
ReplyDeleteI love your little snippets of plain common sense that you share with your outfit posts. It is what sets you apart from so many others!
ReplyDeleteneedless to say I loved this post!!
OBSESSED, OBSESSED, OBSESSED with this dress!!!

ReplyDeleteFierce photos! Good luck in the contest. I'm off to vote.
ReplyDeleteThat's why I love you so much-I flaunt my age like I flaunt the rest of myself regardless of the fact there isn't much to flaunt:D
ReplyDeleteIt's silly to want to be something else than what you are and where you are too:-)
and did I tell you gow stunning you look...yes, every bit the confident gal that someone venturing in her thirties should:-)
I like your style!!!

ReplyDeleteOMG! Awesome dress!!! And that necklace looks super-cool too!!! <3
ReplyDeleteLovvvvedddddddddd the age gyan! But, I am not very comfortable with numbers. Still not :| Shame on me.
ReplyDeleteAnyhoooo....I loooved the dress so much. Very rich.
Fabulous look, and about aging is very important to enjoy every state in your life, being grateful fo i the little things, and Living to the full everyday.
ReplyDeleteWonderful dress.
I am also in Refinery 29. I just wanted to meet new people, but I never told anybody about it.
Good luck, I shall vote for you.
I totally agree with you!
ReplyDeleteGrowing older, is humbling. But at the same time I'd be proud to say how old I am. I've lived my younger years without regret... and I don't want to look back at today sometime later, and say what if!? It doesn't matter how long my life is, as long as its a life well lived!
I completely agree with you! Why not celebrate your age, its so true, one more year you have survived living on this planet!
ReplyDeleteAnyway, found you through BDIB, love how edgy your dress is, I love it!

Was that split peas soup above? Everything looks yummy! You're one very wise almost 30 year old. I wholeheartedly agree with your point of view(it could be that is because i am in that group that always get told that i look much younger than i am). Therefore when asked my age, i loudly blurt it out, knowing that a complement is quick to follow...?:-). What, you wanted to know how old i was? I'm 35 years old and yes, thank you:-) As always, you look tre's magnifique! XX
ReplyDeleteI love your dress and the heels are adorable. You have the most gorgeous hair too. I'm jealous LOL! I love what you wrote, you are right. I don't understand it either. I've never minded saying my age but I do wondering whether that is just because I am 22. I wonder if one day I'll change my mind.
ReplyDeleteYou look darking! I love everything you have on!
ReplyDeleteAge is just a number...agreed! But one such number which gets fussed about every year! he he!
