Before I turn 30...

I still have not found any inspiration and I loathe ranting on my blog for no reasons. I strongly believe in only talking when I can improve the silence. There is already enough noise in the world. So while I am still maintaining that respectful 'silence', I also, had learnt something from Jennine Jacob, at the TxSCC few weeks back. She said that if one enjoys blogging and wishes to continue it then 'sometimes all you need is to 'show up' just like you would at work'. In my personal experience, inspiration doesn't come to you by just being a bum, so to say. You have to get out there and find it. At least you have got make a genuine effort to find it. So here I am, showing up ... making an effort ... doing the best I can. [Clearly, I talk a lot even while maintaining a 'respectful' silence :P]

So instead of 'lecturing' any more, here's what got me writing this post. As usual Upasna introduces me to a lot of new stuff which I am unaware of in my rather illusive life. So she found a list of 30 Skills Every Woman Should Have Before Turning 30* which means I have less than an year to make sure I have them all. Let's go over them, shall we?

1. Hard-boil an egg ✔️
2. Diplomatically tell mom to butt out (ok! rather rude. I've never had to)
?
3. Ace a job interview ✔️

4. Ask a man out (Never had to and now I am married!)
5. Send a thoughtful thank-you note ✔️

6. Listen to a friend in need ✔️

7. Ask for help ✔️

8. Effectively end an unhealthy relationship [
romantic or platonic in nature] ✔️
9. Beautifully wrap a gift ✔️

10. Say “no” gracefully ✔️

11. Whip up a great dinner with the five items in her fridge ✔️

12. Forget pleasing him,
by 30 a woman should be able to tell her man exactly how to please her ✔️
13. Sew a button ✔️

14. Mix a kick-ass cocktail ✔️

15. Take off her bra without removing her shirt (errr embarrassing but o.k.) ✔️

16. Apply lip gloss in the dark ✔️

17. Balance her checkbook ✔️

18. Create a budget ✔️

19. Find the best deal ✔️

20. Negotiate a salary and/or pay raise (
haven't had to but I am sure I can manage) ?
21. Read a map ✔️

22. Hail a cab ✔️

23. Say something in French just for the hell of it ✔️

24. Apologize when she’s wrong ✔️

25. Dress for her body type ✔️

26. Change a flat ...
or know whom to call to come change it (errr AAA?) So, ✔️ or ?
27. Spot a fake [
handbag, diamond, potential friend …] ✔️
28. Feign interest ✔️

29. Know what to tip on a $25 dinner bill ✔️

30. Hold a baby ✔️

So what do you say people? I am ready to turn 30, aren't I?

Something I put together randomly to do a Grocery run on Sunday. But just as we stepped out Husband thought I look rather 'cute' so went back in to get the camera and clicked some pictures for the heck of it. Your thoughts?

iComment asked - "It would be nice if on some days you document all that you eat, your meal plans etc. to give us little more boost and help your readers attain a good body."

I will admit that at one point I was a crazy-calorie-counting-maniac. I needed that discipline in the beginning. I needed to guide my brain to help me control my appetite and also needed change my eating habits.
  • Less fried food
  • More vegetables and fruits
  • Less sweets and chocolates
However, I have been at a stable weight for last 3 years. I have stopped counting calories. I workout for 3-4 times a week for 30 or 60 minutes (as work and life permits). I eat whatever my heart desires but in small portions. When I do not workout, I lose strength and stamina and my body doesn't look as toned but *luckily* I my weight and body dimensions do not fluctuate *touchwood* any more. (Lesson: If you workout regularly and strenuously your body learns to adapt to your life's ups and downs!)

The reason I am telling you this is because I do not have a meal plan. I roughly know what I am going to eat as I know what groceries I have in the refrigerator but there is no fixed schedule. I am not sure if this will be helpful but I have stated my meals in the form of options:

Breakfast Options: 7am
Glass of Milk & a bowl of Fruit or
Muesli with Milk or
Flavored Yogurt & Toast or
Glass of Juice & Toast

Mid-AM Snack Options: 9am
Whatever I didn't have for breakfast
I have it 2 hours later
e.g. If I had Muesli with Milk for breakfast
I will have Glass of Juice & Toast at 9am

Lunch Options: Between 11am-Noon
Cous-Cous and Quinoa with Vegetables or
Vegetable Sandwich or
Wheat & Flax Seed Toast with a vegetable or avocado dip or
Rice Vermicelli with Tofu & Vegetable or
Whole Wheat Pasta with Vegetables
(The options are not limited to this but these are few of my favorite items)

Mid-Afternoon Snack: 2pmWheat & Flax Seed Crackers with Humous or
Slice Cranberry and Walnut Bread with any dip or
Flavored Yogurt

Dinner Options: Between 5-6pm
Bowl of cooked lentils and sautéed vegetables and a cup of plain yoghurt or
6" Veggie Delight from Sunday on 9 Grain Honey Oat (No Cheese. No Dressing) or
Whole Wheat Quesadilla with grilled peppers and tomatoes or
Thin Crust Whole Wheat Pizza with Pesto and vegetables
(Lunch options can always be used as Dinner options)

Also, everyone is different. Every body is different. Each one of us has different metabolism, strength, body size, needs, allergies, diseases, etc. All of these play a role in your level of fitness. Do not compare yourself to the next person, but do use them as a source of motivation. At least that's what I do.

Hello! Spring

Life is beautiful. It really is ... I have a tendency of being happy (and sad, but we'll leave that part out for now) out-of-the-blue for no rhyme or reason. It is like a fuse goes off in my head I decide, "I am going to be happy today!". It is really that simple for me. If you were able to somehow peek into my home (which you of course can't!) on one of such days, you would probably find me singing on top of my voice, or frolicking around my house, playing dress up with the prettiest dress in my closet, or just dancing the night day away. Oh! and when I am happy I cannot write (or give lectures) I am so busy being happy. So I will save my profound thoughts and wise'n-you-guys-up some other day [:P]. For now lets celebrate the fact that Spring is here. Yesterday was officially the first day of spring. Time to wave goodbye to the winter's chill and welcome the summer's warmth. I am ready. Are you?

How to style a Kurti/Tunic?

Reader's Request

I know that I have been giving a lot of fashion advice lately ... like here, here, and here, Phew! [Right!?!] Well in my defense, people asked me and now you all are stuck with this post [:P] Blame 'em!

And for people who do not what a Kurti is? ... It is otherwise known as a Tunic in the western world, and is a traditional piece of clothing for most South Asians specially in Indian Sub-Continent. They are designed to fit loosely and women
mostly wear them with jeans.

Though a reader asked to me to tell her a few ways to style a Kurti but there are not very many options in the styles that a Kurti comes in, hence the only way to style them
differently would be either with:
- different types of bottoms
- with different accessories
- and my favorite - SHOES

However, o
ne of the critical points to focus upon wearing a Kurti would be your body type. If you are:
Kurtis mostly comes in three lengths:1) Waist lengthNot for - Pear and Apple2) Ending right below the hipsNot for - Pear and Hour glass3) Ending about few inches above kneesNot for - Cone and Rectangle

Now we cannot possibly have a post without my pictures, now can we
So here's how I have worn Kurtis a several times in the last year!

UpdatedInky Pinky asked the difference between a Kurta and a Kurti in the comments below - As she pointed out, in my understanding as well the ones with shorter lengths are called Kurtis and the ones which goes all the way down till the calfs are called Kurtas and are worn both, by men and women.

Disclaimer: This is a Super Longgg and Photo Heavy Post!

Scavenger Hunt

This was the first time I met all the bloggers (as I missed the swap the previous night, boohoo). We all were divided into the groups of three and given an "X" number of tasks to complete in 90 mins. My awesome team mates were Kelsey and Linda ... and we sure had fun. Dancing on the streets with strangers, to drawing fake mustaches, to making a 2 year old laugh ... we did it ALL! Didn't we girls?

Holiday Lookbook - Night

So, Continuing from my previous post ... these are the 'Night' Looks.

Now before y'all go ahead and start judging me you should know a little something about Dubai. While it is a great city, shopping paradise and yada yada yada ... It is definitely fighting for the top position in the category of - City where world's most superficial, materialistic and show-off people live

Don't get me wrong, I am not the one to generalize and put everyone in a box but if you have been there or lived there, you'd know what I mean. Everything and everyone is about the bling-bling, there. What car you drive, which vicinity you live in, who are your friends, where do you hang out over the weekend, where do you take vacation, what hand bag you carry (catch my drift, yet?) will determine how people treat you! Therefore, having lived there and been aware of the society, I was still not bling enough. In fact I would probably even be under dressed on most times ...

Now ... go ahead! ... Judge me ;)

In the meantime let me indulge you in my Holiday Lookbook. Earlier this year, I stopped by Dubai to visit my friend - Anita (aka Myraa Ahuja). Everyone, probably, already knows her, thanks to the 2 fabulous photo shoots she pampered me with here and here.
