A Bagel Date...

Not mine [husband's] - I am vegetarian
Heavenly Chocolate Pie
Me, with my mischievous expression [looks more like sleepy eyes, though :P]
Shoes - BCBG [08']; Pants - Zara [Dubai, 06'] Also worn here
Bangles - From a local boutique; Earrings - Gift [Mom, 10']
Top - Ted Baker [09'] Also worn here
I always try and wear my military print pants when husband wears these shorts
[Cheesy I know, :P]

I was about to give these pants away few months back, during spring cleaning. But then I saw that they were back in fashion! I decided to keep them. I desperately have to get rid of old clothes to make place for new ones. But my clothes never go bad and I do continue to use them. So how and why will I ever buy new clothes? Hence, my phobia for shoes. Shoes, make all my clothes look more fabulous than they actually are [my theory, go with it!] ;)

As you all can see I am addicted to blogging. I have been dishing out posts every-single-day for the month of June! [Woah! Never done that before!!!]

Everyday after finishing all my duties [?!?!], and work whatever time I get I devote it to blogging. That is, I believe, kinda getting on my family's [read: husband] nerves. When Mom was here, they wanted me to play cards or board games with them while all I wanted was to blog! Ahhh ... It's been like a tug-of-war-of-sorts. Also, since my social life had been quite active lately, I had an 'outfit' to post daily! I am thinking may be I should take a little break from blogging. [What do y'all think?

But that means I will have to dress shabbily for a few days so that I am not tempted to click any pictures. Now ... that's what's going to be really hard! How does one dress shabbily? ... I have no clue [Modesty out the window!]

Story of my Tattoo[s]

Yesterday I got a request, from Sonali @ Bollywood Style Dairies, Viintii [an old gym-buddy from Delhi] & Dusk @ The Dusk Zone, to do a post on my tattoos. And Ms. Efficient that I am, I got to it right away! Also, luckily I had these pictures already lined up to post which show my first tattoo. [Yes! I have two!!!]

First Tattoo

The First Tattoo is in Japanese Script Kanji and it says "Wicked" [or at least that's what I was told :P] I got this done in December of 2003. Why? No reason, really. I was visiting Delhi, India after 4 years for a childhood friend's "child" wedding [She was only 21!!!]. I had left India in 1998 and moved to Dubai, back then there were no malls in the city. When I returned in 2000 there was only Ansal Plaza [South Delhi] and the good old street shopping. But when I returned in 2003 there were all these big-crowded-malls around the city. So while strolling through one of these malls in Gurgaon, I came across a Tattoo parlour called 'Funky Monkey'. I entered it and out-of-no-where decided spontaneously to get a tattoo some place where I can't see it everyday. And that's the non-exciting story of my First Tattoo.

Second Tattoo
The Second Tattoo is an Ambigram which read 'Life' if you read it straight but reads 'Death' if you turn it upside down [or when you read it from where my eyes are! :)] Anita [BFF] was visiting me in Delhi [Sept, 2006] before her wedding [Jan 2007] and wanted to get a tattoo before she got married [Don't ask me, Anita - Tell everyone WHY!?]. But was a little scared to do it alone. I had got my first tattoo without any permission from my parents [You all know my Mother, by now, don't you? What do you think? Did she approve? - You think right! :P] so I was a little skeptical about doing it again! But then I am a rebel-without-a-cause, so the day she was leaving [back for Dubai], just few hours before her flight we decided to get it done. Same tattoo, Same place!

With Anita at her Youngsters [Dec 2006]
Same Tattoo!!!

The Third Tattoo - Now, after the second tattoo, I thought, "Alright! I will get just one more, but after marriage." With my husband's name or our initials or something cheesy like that! But guess what? My husband doesn't like tattoos [I am sooooooo glad I got the other two before marriage now :P] If, he ever changes his mind, I plan to get one more. Where? That's yet to be decided!

Anyhoooo, in the meantime, this is how I dressed to beat the Texan heat!
Hairpin - From local grocery store [09']
[Why, hairpin? 'Coz this is the waiting period between hair cuts!]
Dress - Urban Outfitters [09']
Neck 'thing' & bracelets - Khan Market [Delhi, 07']; Shoes - Stolen [Mom's 10']
Earrings - ASOS [10']

Why did I start Blogging?

Lately I have been haunted with the question - Why did I start Blogging? Well, I know why I did it. But 'reaaallllly' in a broader spectrum of life - Why? Everyone knows the factual history of this blog but lately I have realized there is an emotional [deeper] level to it all, as well.

When I got married and moved to U.S., I had no friends [None.Nil.Nada.Zilch.Zero!] and no family either [I have two cousins who are more than 3 hour-flight-away!]. I had to look for ways to keep myself busy and productive [Can't work due to stupid immigration laws! Agrh!

And just like that, one day I started blogging. I didn't have any expectations or any agenda from this activity. It was simply my way of venting out my thoughts [And man! Do I have too many thoughts or Do I have too many thoughts?]. I am an [over] expressive person. I need to say what is on my mind. I am not one those silent-surffering-sorta-woman. If I have something to say, someone within 100 yards radius will have to hear it [I do talk to strangers too!].

Mostly, my husband was my punching bag [not literally!] It's just a metaphor ... Duhh! [Don't believe him if he tells you otherwise!] but then I decided to stop torturing him [Hence, the blog!]. 'Coz let's face it how much can he go on hearing? Poor scientist, he works 10 hours a day and then get's bombarded with my stories as soon as he steps in [Imagine if my mouth is 'shut' for 10 hours how I might be rambling on at the first sight of any prey?]

Anyhooooo, the blog helped me a lot. First I had a simple template and only 5 people who used to read it daily - Mom, Brother, Husband, Meetu D [Cousin] and Anita [BFF]. Slowly the readers grew [word of mouth I guess!]. I didn't have any widgets, no google friend connect, nothing! After an year of 'fitness-marriage-life-etc.-related-blogging' I discovered Fashion Blogs via Amy B.S. @ tastes like red. She was the only blogging-friend I had for the whole year. I never bothered surfing any other blog except her's and Shobha De's. Then one day I discovered What I Wore which opened up a whole new world for me. I started clicking pictures of my outfits every now and then and posted them once a month all in one post. Then my cousin, Meetu D suggested that I do an outfit-of-the-day as she really appreciated my dressing-sense. And I thought to myself, "Hmmm! Why not? This could be fun!"

Since then there has been no looking back. I have been posting pictures quite frequently and have added all these 'fundu' widgets and signed up in all the fashion communities and came across some out-of-this-world-fabulous blogs and even more fabulous bloggers [some of whom have now become my friends outside the blogging world! Yay!!] Initially I only had 7 followers on google connect and now? ... last I checked it said 61! All out-of-no-where. I didn't ask anyone to follow my blog. Didn't ask anyone to come check out my blog. Neither did I run any giveaways. Not that there is anything wrong with doing any of those things [I am only trying to make a point here. Have patience, I am getting to it *impatient.eye.roll*].

The idea of this blog was always to express myself. Be myself. Be honest and voice my opinions. While doing that I may have made a connection with few, or offended a few. But hey! I am not weathered by either of those reactions. I cannot let people decide for me what I will blog about. You will just have to trust me and go with my rhythm.

However, I do want to stay away from the herd mentality of gaining followers, or having numerous comments, etc. Every blog has an aim and reason for it's existence. Mine just happens to be for personal satisfaction & personal expression. If you like what you see and decide to follow me or leave a comment - You really really make my day and bring a big monkey-grin on my face! But if you do not like my blog, then move-on-buddy there is definitely a blog out-there-some-where that you will like! Bon chance!

This is how I had dressed for a random evening sometime last week!

Me - Dreaming Forever ;)

I think this blog is becoming my alter ego. I am probably not exactly the same person as this blog might depict me to be. 'Coz really I live quite an isolated life where I spend 70% of the day alone. Sometimes to have a conversation with anyone at all seems like a chore to me. 'If you can't improve the silence, then you'd better shut up' has actually become an invisible hoarding around me, unfortunately everyone can't read it but I do try and suffice it with my body language [but even that doesn't always communicate to the dimwits! :P]

You know what I have realized lately? When we are growing up we choose friends, may be, on the basis of common interests, common backgrounds, and/or common neighborhood. But as we grow up [for some people that never happens, so there are always exception to this rule :P] the criteria changes. I cannot talk for everyone, but with time I,personally, have started choosing friends on the basis of common ideologies and principles, more than anything. One doesn't have to agree with me on everything to be my friend, but we do need to have the basic principle down-right straight, for us to have any conversation beyond the superficial pleasantries.

Am I rambling? I think I am rambling! [Must be all the early mornings :P] Oppss! It's already past my bed time [tch.tch] Catch you on the other side of the weekend!

Another Friday Night at the Movies

Friday night in our household [Me & Mr] means movie night. Luckily Hollywood and Indian Cinema have been dishing out movies back-to-back. But thankfully alternative weekend. So this Friday the two movies we saw were:
  1. Grown-ups : As I am a little tired and sleepy [went for a run and workout at 5:30am! Yay Baby!] I do not have the energy to do a review but I will tell you this - it is a hilarious movie. A must watch for families. (On a personal note to God!) Dear God, if at the age of 43, after having a baby, if I am anywhere even close to as fit as Salma Hayek I will donate everything I own to charity in my will [of course upon my death...while I am alive I will need all that stuff to continue looking hot and fabulous like Salma, no?
  2. Knight and Day : Right after 'Grown-ups' we went to see the new Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz starer. This too is a great movie. Don't have tooo high expectations and you shan't be disappointed. After a verrrrryyyyyy long time I found Tom Cruise hot! I mean really haaawwwtt. Jaw-dropping Hott! and I do not think like that about anyone ['coz I am married and do not share such thoughts in public! Haha!] (Again, on a personal note to God!) Dear God, if at the age of 47, and after having a baby, if my husband looks even remotely as fit as Tom Cruise I will make him donate everything too! Promise!
And now since I have to head back to my pillow,
I will quickly show you how I dressed, for the movies
Top - Ann Taylor [09'] (Also worn here and here);
Necklace - ASOS [10']; Earrings - Gift [Mom 10']
Shoes - Faith [London, 05']; Belt - Esprit [08']
Shorts - Banana Republic [07'] (Also worn here)

And We Run...?

We have been totally treating fitness as a step-child on this blog for these past months! It's time to bring it back, people. Fashion is all cool and fine but without fitness I wouldn't have fashion in the first place. If you are wondering - What happened to the pounds I had piled on in the past month [with all the travel and visitors]? Well, they are still there. Very.Much.There! Worry not, sexy abs, we are back in the grind and we shall kick this issue in it's butt now!

Earlier this month, I had mentioned that I plan to be a runner from now on ... And? I still do. Due to my 'busy-life' [read: social-life] I haven't been able to run for more than thrice a week [tch.tch]. But now I plan to stay on track. Leia from Leia's Delights has been a great blogger-friend and motivator. She is my new-running-buddy from across the continents who checks up on me, if I have been running or not. [I am trying, Leia. I am trying *wink*

Running is turning to be one of the hardest forms of fitness oriented activity that I have done so far. That, of course, is one of the main reasons why I want to nail it, so bad! [Love challenges! Can't you tell? :P] So after abusing my body [yet.again!] I have a plan:
  1. Be Real - Have to ensure that I eat enough calories to survive only, not any more than that! [For sure the extra pounds didn't pile up magically. It was all the extra-unnecessary food I was putting in my mouth!]
  2. H2O - Have been lazy in drinking enough water, daily. Time to empty the water bottles in to my stomach [What's the point in storing them in the refrigerator?
  3. Balanced Meal - Yeah! That was probably the first thing that went out the door as the visitors walked in. Society is just not good for my 'healthy lifestyle'. Only if I could leave all materialist desires and comforts and move to the Himalayas. But then sans fashion & society, I would have sans motivation to be fit [Catch 22, anyone?]
  4. Fiber - Time to embrace the fibre and kick the carbs [bad ones!] in their ass; i.e. Hello! Vegetables & Fruits - Bye-Bye Sugar & Chocolate *sad.face*
  5. Gym - Well, the only saving grace was that I did try and work out for at least 30 minutes/3 times a week [if I was in town] but now, with no excuses to give, I am thinking of simply moving-in at the gym, itself. [I hope they have internet there :P]
Sounds like one-helluva-of-a-plan, right?

And while I am at it, I plan to set myself goals and deadlines too [for I work best when I am working against time]. So yesterday in a local magazine when I saw an advertisement for Rock'n'Roll San Antonio Marathan on November 14, 2010 I knew I had found my deadline. I have 4 months and 19 days [or total of 142 days] to train. Shouldn't be that hard. What do you think?

Go Tanvi!

What's in your bag?

Holly & Sally @ Hippie By Heart. Thinks Fashion Is Art tagged me last week in their post What's in your bag? Sorry girls that I took my sweet time to do this but here I am.

Everyone knows that I advocate 'Light Travel' i.e. least amount of luggage with maximum number of wardrobe changes. But I am incapable of carrying a 'Light Handbag'. Often [more than I care for] people have asked me, "What's in your bag? Why is it so big & heavy?" I have always responded saying, "I carry my home with me." But now everyone will know exactly what's in it, so please stop asking? [Hope it's doesn't alert the "OMG Police" for my bag probably has the whole world in it].

Safari Chic

The emptiness within
piercing through my heart
leaving me amorous...

...walking on the wild side. Am I?
Dress - Zara [06']; Necklace - Ladakh [09']
Boots - Biba [10']

Jessica at What I Wore had another challenge this week - Safari Chic, whose results she posted on her blog yesterday. This week’s theme was a walk on the wild side with Safari Chic. The best thing about these challenges is that they give me a chance to dress totally 'wacko' 'coz honestly I would never dress like this and go anywhere in real life! :P

This is another one of those dresses that I love but rarely get a chance to wear. I am not really big on 'animal' prints and this dress is the only one that I have ever bought in this print. You like?
