So here she is! Ladies and gentleman, pick up a glass of wine, sit back and hear her talk about shoes. What better topic for any two girls to bond over, Right? Even if its the wrong shoes ;)
Wrong Shoes
I have an amazing talent of wearing the wrong shoes. You know what I am talking about. I wear flip-flops when walking through a meadow of tall grass. I wear five inch heels when walking around in New York for eight straight hours. And I wear ballet flats that give me blisters even after I have worn it a hundred times, to a car show. By the end of each trip my feet are so swollen that its impossible to get the shoes off my feet without breaking my ankles. I would rather break my ankles than cut open my shoes, by the way. I don’t think there is anything called as a wrong shoe. You see, the shoes are always right. I personally feel that the situations were wrong. Never the shoe.

Speaking of shoes, I love them. They were the only things that ever got me compliments when I was growing up. Not my huge two front teeth and my freckled nose. Their charm does not supersede the sexiness of my choice of shoes. They were never brand names or very expensive, because I never had to sell my home and furniture (passing them off as vintage of course! what is that I hear? ka-ching!) to buy them. My shoes are a natural extension of me (we are talking biology here people!). The funny part is, the shoes that I get as gifts or (in recent cases) as giveaways are what I would have definitely bought on my shoe shopping expeditions (please feel free to imagine me in an Indiana Jones hat). I remember this one particular incident where I was sitting on a commode, peeing away to glory when a women from the next stall yelled over the sound of the flush that she loved my shoes. This happened at a rest stop somewhere between Boston and Connecticut. It’s my most favorite compliment by a faceless person till date.

When we were newly married my husband did not understand my obsession with shoes. Nor does he understand my obsession with collecting jewelery that I do not wear. But I fluttered my eye lashes (I applied a barrel load of mascara for the desired effect of the flirtatious girl-next-door) and showed off my two huge front teeth and freckled nose for added oomph factor and he succumbed to my voodoo (I had the song ‘I put a spell on you’ by Nina Simone playing in the background). From that moment on, this is one purchase that he does not question anymore. Why do I even bother to lie? He is just a sweet man who loves me to bits and gets me whatever I want. Bwaaahaahaaa.

All in all my love for shoes and everything feet-y is evident from all the letters that I put together to make word which made sentences which created paragraphs and this post. Do you have a story about your obsession that you want to share? Wine and chocolates? Growing vegetables? Obsessive compulsive cleaning? Diamonds? Shredded jeans? John Abraham? Adam Samberg? Do tell. I am all ears.

I love the way this piece is written!! :) I am not sure what I am entirely obsessed about...these days I am mostly obsessed about everything retro...but i have to admit, I tend to have phases with things I get stuck to...it has been books, shoes, travel..and a lot of other me-things...I keep going back and forth

I am a huge shoe person, so this post went straight to my heart, hehe. I loved the post. And also loved all her shoes.
ReplyDeleteMm.. I do the same thing - I seem to have a plethora of heels, which are completely inappropriate for most activities! My compulsion probably is shoes to be honest, I lust after them like nothing else!x

haha, well written, even though I'm amazed that I read a post on SHOES. It was a great read though.
ReplyDeleteMy personal obsession is Shisha flavor. I've done as far as to mix cig tobacco with tooth paste in order to smoke (well, I haven't really, but it has crossed my mind).
You are so right - the shoes are never at fault, it's these awful situations that require us to walk. Of all things... I've got the same problem, which is why I normally carry a second (more sensible) pair with me.
ReplyDeleteWow, I adore her shoe collection! And her story about the lady who complimented her shoes at the toilet is hilarious!! Love this post:)
ReplyDeleteBrilliant post, I too am afflicated with the inability to select the appropraite shoes for an occasion.
ReplyDeleteMy obsession seems to be collecting everything judging by the look of my house. xxx
Again a well written post but have to confess it is more females....men don't care about shoes...not so much
ReplyDeletewonderful post very funny and correct :)

AMAZING AMAZING SHOES!!!!!!! droolllll!!!!!! xoxo
ReplyDeleteI love the way Dipti writes!! and i totally agree with her. I have a major shoe addiction as well!
ReplyDeleteMy poor husband actually counted the number of pairs i own once and threw that in my face in a shoe store...unfortunately for him it just made me happy rather than guilty!! :D 3 yrs of marriage has cured him of that habit at least! now he is just resigned to the fact that i own way to many pairs of shoes! :D
Thank you so much for the love you guys. And loads of love to Tanvi for inviting me to guest post for her! :)
ReplyDeleteLove her writing and wit, i'm a wrong shoes kinda gal too, i don't always get it right!

Great post, I tend to have the same problem with shoes, no matter what, for the most part they end up killing my poor feet! Fashion over comfort I suppose!

ReplyDeletealoha! I gave an award to your blog! Welcome to check it out on 5amjetaime.com/blog!!! looking forward to your new posts! xoxo, gabrielle
Hilarious! I wear the most painful heels I own typically when I head out for a night of dancing, because they make my outfit sooo much better. Then I am in pain all night because they hurt soooo bad.
ReplyDeleteAll of these shoes ARE ROCKIN!!!!! I just broke my foot (in two spots) in my Fendi heels on the dancefloor at a wedding..I'm now calling it a "FENDI-BENDER"

ReplyDeletegreat post, dear blog friend!!! as for me, my current fashion obsession is lace anything - it is hopelessly romantic and softens any ensemble. and of course, my white truffle oil - i sprinkle it on almost every meal. yum!
